Another video showcasing the shell of a 1970 VW Beetle Convertible project. We move forward, cutting out all the old rotted metal and make way for new metal! See how we support the shell in this video with 4x4s and door braces.
Support braces can be bought at www.bugstuffonline.com
More on this project can be seen here www.classicvwbugs.com/2017/11...

Ahhh..reminds me of all the work I did on my '65 bug vert back in 96'....floors...heater channels...reinforcement rails...

Say I broke half of the heater channel bolts while removing the body... The rust isn't too bad, except for a 6" section on the passenger side. Do I cut and replace the bottom or drill and tap new holes?

Lots of rust there but you guys do great work. Thankfully on my 75 vert there was very minimal rust. Have you decided on a color yet?

Wow, makes my 1970 bug look pretty solid! Nice to see some newer (although still 47 years old) bugs on the channel. Looking at the state of that, these are getting pretty rare to find in good condition now. More of these please. :-)

Hey Chris, would it be safe to totally cut off the roof from the base of the columns and leave it at that?

Hi Chris I have a 61 RHD Cabrio beetle here in Australia with rusty lower heater channels and reinforcers. I was thinking of cutting them out and replacing with Klassic fab or wolfsburg west channels. Would you recommend I brace and do one side at a time, or measure and cut both out and replace? There is also rust at the base of the door pillar which makes me think replace the whole channel is a better way? Thanks Steve

I would brace both sides, yeah. Also, depending how bad the rust is at the posts, you may just be able to get away with the post patch metal that they sell.

Does bugstuff make door braces for the older bugs? I have a ‘57... and can you depend on the braces to give you the proper door measurement, maybe correct for any sag?

Yes they do make them for earlier bugs. And yes it is dead on.

Sorry Chris some people call it tucking why i dont know . The rear end when turning the corner the back weels or driving on a bumpy road the back end jacks it self up some use camber compresors to help control the camber .

I think empi makes a camber compensator. If you go on thesamba in the forums section, I'm sure people have discussed this. We do not put any aftermarket compensators on.

You know, I tried to look around and Find replacement parts for every part of a bug and have myself a 1:1 scale model. I managed to find parts for about 70% of them.
