Hey Volks,
Just a short tip video on the "pain in the butt" hinge pin that you want to remove. Ideally you want to do this when the car is at the body shop prior to paint. But if you must, there are some things you can try to do on your own at home or at a shop. Take a look at the video.

Chris, where did you get the mirrors and the hinge pin mirror adapter? My hinge pin mirrors mount directly to the hinge pin, adjustment is difficult and they are too low.

One suggestion on the reinstallation, to give you a guide as to whether you're hanging up on the male/female transition, make two marks on the pin at the depth of the upper and lower joints. That way if it stops part way in, you can see if its on that gap or just tight in general. Also, you can file a slight bevel on the end of the pin to help it align as it goes past the gap. Been there before on the removal after paint. Scary stuff! Cardboard, rags, a big fluffy towel you snuck out of the linen closet. Whatever you can put between blunt instruments and paint.

That paint color is so warm....I've been to a few places and that old vw code just doesn't work....idk what modern formula you found to play The role but it works 😎🎸

Nice your pops gets down. And yes tell your body guy to replace it first will be the best . And get ready to pay him $$$ . Because I am a bodywork guy . And that shit is hard lol . That look easy because it was . Find one that is not

Freeze the pin first, dry ice works best. goes in like butter.

Just a suggestion…do not use WD40. It is a 40 weight water displacing oil that is designed to coat parts and prevent water entrapment. On a hinge exposed to elements it will rust fairly quickly. A very good alternative is a solid film lubricant, you can buy it in many locations, it is PTFE based, water resistant, and if you bake the Part in an oven prior to install it will stand the test of time and be easy to remove later. Another good material is Molybdenum paste as it is graphite based and will prevent corrosion and future damage.

NAH, not necessarily. Unless your hinge is really worn out.

Does anyone know if I can swap hinges or pins for a 1978 super beetle? I hate the stock mirrors always coming loose or sagging. The look of the hinge mounted mirrors look better and have a better view. I believe from what I read the hinge pins are 8.1 MM ??? So can I just get a pin with the top threaded for the mirror? Or can I just buy a hinge for 67 beetle with pin and use that?
