The most serious treatment of this popular tune as a classical piece I've ever seen and the best play of it I've ever heard. I think Segovia would have liked it because brings different sounds of the orchestra onto the classical guitar ,like the horn section. Although he may not have been ready to admit it during his lifetime.

8 years is a decent amount of time, but maybe it's not so bad for a decent instrument after all! In any case even the best guitars do not play by themselves and it's always the aspect of the performer. Keep up the good work, I enjoy playing The Dark Island, Danny Boy and your other arrangements so much. It's nice you sell those arrangements because I'm not good enough to play them by video only ) Cheers

I remember this song getting my attention the first time I heard it, back when it came out. It's never failed to give me goosebumps ever since. The only thing wrong with it.. and there is something wrong with it.. It's too dang short...

Very nice David you play it brilliantly , how difficult is this piece? It is quite catchy and great technique builder , I wonder though do professional classical guitarists in general rate this as a genuine piece in a repertoire??!! Did bream play it back in the day?

Alan McCarthy it's not too difficult. I'd say it wasn't really part of the classical repertoire at all. Certainly JB wouldn't have played it. I may be releasing this arrangement. . That's what the blurred text was! Still waiting for the licence.

Thanks for including the C#/E middle section; simple, but it is part of the song, after all; Eric Clapton left it out of his version. Your version is not quite as fast as Clapton's, and I can't be sure, but I suspect his version has some overdubs, there are a couple of points where I believe I can hear edits when I slow it down... yours is a better speed, and actually watching you play it shows the positions you use for certain figures, which is helpful for authenticity...and I've never actually seen Clapton playing his version live, can't seem to find it on youtube anywhere.

Your channel is awesome, David! Do you have a video of you doing the one and only piece I was ever taught in lessons, Bach's Minuet in G? And, have you ever done an arrangement of Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring? I've done a simple arrangement in C, one of my favourite pieces.

I haven't recorded those pieces for youtube. I've done air on a g string. I arranged jesu joy... for someone's wedding once but if I ever do it again I'll make a better job 25 years on! Thanks for watching.

@@davidjaggs I asked for it to be played at my wedding, in 1985, on the church organ - and the organist slaughtered it, so disappointing... I never thought it presented a level of difficulty that the organist would struggle with... been a metaphor for the marriage really...

Here's the thing about this guy: The other day my wife came into my library saying that she saw this FANTASTIC guitarist n "America's Got Talent". Well, most of the acts on that show are rubbish, so I was more than a little cynical. Then, I saw this kid get up on stage with an array of effects (affects?) pedals at his feet, I was beginning to suspect that my cynicism was well founded. Then the kid began to play. OH MY GOD!!! What a mess. He was banging on the strings like it was a drum. He looked like he knew how to play, but that performance was horrid. ---- Now, look at David's playing "four fingers and six string" (that is my line -- you can't use it without crediting me). No stupid pedals, just a guy that knows how to work the guitar. This is what our instrument, the guitar, is all about. David is one of several guitarists on KZfaq that are an inspiration. Great stuff David!!

@@davidjaggs Yes, you are absolutely correct. It's like the old joke "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?" Practice. In addition to listening to your excellent videos I am also working through Classic Guitar Corner. It is a great program. Between the two of you I will learn how to play well some day--- of course with a lot of practice. ;-)

It is really a special guitar, excellent. I got the chance to play one at a friend of mine and really wanted to take it home with me. But it is really impossible to get one of these 😞.
