Kevin is truly amazing. He won me over just by playing Cowboy Bebop. XD So glad they got to react to IU Red Shoes. Modern times is by far my favourite album of hers and it really deserved the reaction.

The ENTIRE Modern Times album is absolute musical gold. It is by far my favorite K-pop album of all time even though Infinite is my bias group. Jazz really fits IU's voice so well. Her voice is strong but it can't be presented properly within pop which can have variations with how the vocals are presented. Jazz vocals are meant to be big and strong and even though IU's voice is very light, she adjusts in a way that makes her voice not become overpowered by the strong instrumentation.

I think what really adds to my enjoyment of the reaction vids are the little mentions of other videos theyve previously reacted to. It really shows that they pay attention to the videos :) (unlike other nonkpop reactions)

Just wanna share someone's comment from the original MV : Many people think the music video is based on the fairy tale "The Red Shoes" but it's actually based on the film "The Red Shoes" 1948 by Michael Powell. Information from the comment: The film is about a young dancer Vicky who meets impresario Lermontov. Vicky is scouted to dance in Lermontov’s ballet “The Red Shoes” (based on the fairy tale) working together with Julian who is a talented young composer. Julian and Vicky fall in love and the ballet was a great success. Lermontov however developed feelings too for Vicky and out of jealousy fires Julian. Julian and Vicky move to London to be together and Lermontov refuses for anyone to re-perform the ballet “The Red Shoes” including Vicky herself. But some time later, Lermontov visits Vicky to come back and dance for him again in the revival of “The Red Shoes”. Vicky accepts his offer eager to dance again and leaves Julian for the show. On the night of the show, Julian appears in her dressing room for the last time to bring her back to London. Lermontov too appears and tries to convince her to stay. Vicky is torn between her love for Julian and her need to dance and doesn’t know what to do. Seeing this, Julian leaves the dressing room for the train back to London. However on her way to the stage, Vicky suddenly gets an irresistible impulse to run from stage and onto the balcony where she jumps (or falls, we don’t know) off and is hit by a train. Julian sees this and runs over to her where she lays on the ground and ask her to remove the red shoes from her. You can see recreations of the movie scenes in the music video, like how Julian visit the dressing room, IU staggering across to the balcony and disappearing at the end, or zooming out at the very end to reveal the setting, Paris.

He's also the composer of "Good Day" and "You and I". He's also done songs for the Brown Eyed Girls (and for BEG members Gain and Narsha's solo work as well).

And the person dressed in red pants, white shirt, dark blazer who plays the keyboards is You Hee-yeol (유희열), also known as Toy. He's a well know musician/composer/producer. He hosts "You Hee-yeol's SKETCHBOOK" which always has live musicians accompanying the guest artists. The audience doesn't know which guests will be performing until he introduces them live. He often will accompany at the keyboards too. It's a fun show to watch. 😍

For those who don't know, here is the summary of Red Shoes. The girl lies to her guardian(mom or grandma) and buys fancy red shoes with the money her guardian gave for black funeral clothes. She goes dancing in red shoes, discarding sick guardian who dies while she's out. The girl gets cursed and the red shoes doesn't stop dancing and she can't get them off! She eventually had to cut off her feet and live on wooden artificial feet.

Oh God YES! I thought this is just another case where Kpop made up some random plot, but I recall a story of Red Shoes that I read when I was kid towards the ending of MV where IU dances like crazy. I don't know the origins of the story, but it originally has a dark theme all over the place, unlike the MV, lol

Hi, the composer's name is Lee MIn Soo, he also wrote IU's "good day" and many other songs for Brown Eyed girls or SunnyHill, he's an "in-house" composer for Loen Tree. :)

I know you got planned for them to react to 23 and U&I together. As a IU fan, I wish you would pair 23 and the recently released 'Palette' together. Here is the reason. IU first debuted as a ballad singer but due to recent music industry centered around 'idols' in Korea, she could not survive without being a 'cute pretty idol' so she changed her route to being an idol. (If you do not get what I mean, check out her debut video 'lost'(2008) and compare it with 'Boo' The former was ballad singer route the latter was idol route) That is how 'Good day'(2010)-'U&I'(2011)-'red shoes'(2013) came out. It all kind of features her as a girl in a fantasy, but she was never content with featuring herself to the audience who she weren't. (On various talk shows and concerts, she talked about her insecurities caused by disparity of how public looks at her(innocent happy girl) to her real self(mature and a bit melancholic)) After she gained enough fame and influence to not fail even if she went back to the solo singer route, starting out from the song 'Friday'(2013) she steps out of idol career and tries becoming just the solo singer just like she wanted. Right after the change of the route she starts to sing about her life, more accurately her 'real' life, not featuring a dreamy girl idol image like she did in this video or U&I. The first title song released after the change was 23(2015) and 2 yrs later she released palette(2017). The 23 and Palette is almost a series. I hope you would reconsider pairing up U&I and instead pair 23 & Palette together because as I said- that way the theme is more consistent. If 23 shows conflict of her life, Palette is like the resolution; how she dealt with the problem she talked about in the song twenty-three. U&I should be more paired with this video- 'Red shoes' because it was the song released in the phase when her career culminated as an idol when she was featuring image of what public likes, not who she really is.

'Cowboy Bebop' song Kevin mentioned had much infulence on Korean song writers. Many of them say they are big fans of Kanno Yoko(the composer of 'Cowboy Bebop' scores). When 'Red shoes' was released, some critics also mentioned 'Cowboy bebop'. I think the end section of this song was kind of dedication, and actually japaness brass band, famous for animation songs like cowboy bebop, took the part in the recording of this song.

Since I really like IU songs, I would really like if you guys reacted to "when would it be", "the story only I didn't know" and "sogyeokdong" since they are my favorites and have REAL nice melody.
