Mitchum is such a natural -- he doesn't even have to act and just ooozes with charisma.

I remember watching this movie in Malaysian television circa 1985. In the last scene, Robert Mitchum asked for a cigarette from the marine soldiers. He got one and as they carried him in a stretcher to the ship, Deborah Kerr walked along with him holding the cigarette along the way for him to puff as Mitchum's hands were hurt. It was one of the most beautiful and memorable scenes in the movie. I cannot sleep that night thinking about the movie and awestruck by Kerr's beauty and characters.

Great post from one of my favorite movies - thank you. But you might want to repost this clip as "CASSIC DIALOGUE" - both words have completely different meanings.

Kerr won her 2nd NY Film Critics award for this movie, but she lost the Oscar to Joanne Woodward for "The 3 Faces of Eve."

I've loved this movie ever since I was a kid. Honestly I think it'd make one hell of a great remake for the modern age, keep it a World War Two epic though. Keep the same story line, good writers / great actors and a top notch Director and I think it'd be pretty good...
@abrahmanharun21543 жыл бұрын
But who will replace Deborah Kerr in the remake? Which actress has the beauty and charisma as Kerr?
@catherinelw93653 жыл бұрын
No thanks. A remake would be awful. They’d have sex and nudity.
@Herbymac08113 жыл бұрын
Catherine LW Doubt it.

@@Herbymac0811 How so? Ever see any remakes? Political correctness, gratuitous sex, and other garbage. Give examples where the remake was better. Psycho? Nope. The Time Machine. PC crap. Stepford Wives. No one watches the remakes.
@Herbymac08113 жыл бұрын
Catherine LW It just depends on who gets their hands on it. There’s been a long string of WWII films and tv shows of recent that have been spot on! This is a very simple and easy to fallow movie, one I believe deserves scene for scene and line for line remake.
