No one is better than chess engines. Even the weak ones are above 3500+ these days. And stockfish is like 4000+. But for computers, ELO gets calculated differently. If they were rated like humans, stockfish would be above 5000. And magnus barely touched 3000. The difference is night and day. To stockfish, magnus would be someone who just learnt chess. So no, he is not better than engines. That simply is not possible. If god played chess with stockfish, stockfi would probably manage to force a draw one or twice. That's how powerful it actually is.

TLDR Magnus gets a win rather than a draw despite having only a king and a bishop, despite Alireza being three pawns up in an opposite color bishop end game. This is because checkmate is TECHNICALLY possbile, even though extremely unlikely at GM level. Alireza also calls Magnus's conduct into question because he alleged that him swearing at himself in Norwegian was done deliberately to distract. The word "cheating" is never used at all other than the clickbait title
@auspiciousjelly39197 ай бұрын
The checkmate possibility was not just extremely unlikely at GM level. It was almost impossible at any level as even white had to throw everything so hard. In short, both sides had to work together for the checkmate

@@dereknichols4376 Ye, and that would have qualified as dirty play/cheating if it's against the rules, which it was if you whine about it during the match. Grey area in terms of click bait but title is still factual considering this, it's not as wild of an accusation as people think. Either way tho, Alireza's reaction to losing and trying to win in other ways by catching Magnus in a technical to count as cheating and thus being DQ'd is the real fuck up here besides fumbling with the pieces, and poor time management earlier on making him do silly mistakes at the end.

Clock ran out, white lost. That's it. If it truely became a stalemate, then that would've been declared. But there were pawns and bishops still in play so the game was still playable with either side potentially winning. So the clock time is the deciding factor.

To call this a cheating accusation seems a bit too strong. Magnus was accused of violating a rule regarding his behavior during the match (an accusation that doesn't hold up). I would think cheating implies getting outside help, or sneaking a piece off the board or something.

My take.... MC shouldn't be cussing, AF should have been calmer in the endgame, even under time pressure (as he is nowadays, with a bit more age and experience), getting flagged and losing is the rules so I guess the reality of MC having a lost position and winning rather than drawing is just tough shit. AF will and has learned and MC doesn't seem to have such histrionics over the board these days either.

I think FIDE needs to change the rules of flag down with material. I'm thinking that flag down in GM vs GM with obvious win if not flagged down is a draw. Forced Self-mate will """NEVER""" at GM vs GM scenario. you can use the old rule to non-GM game, but not in this level of tournament. FIDE rules needs to redefine.

The argument that this was a draw, because it's allmost impossible to checkmate by Magnus in this position is bullshit. Thats why we need time rule. What if a person have 5 different moves, that all obvious for anyone over 1000 elo that leads to checkmate in one move, but he run out of time? How should we avaluate this? A draw, or maybe a win for a dominant position? In my opinion even if you have only king on the board and other person can't checkmate you and run out of time, it should be your win. But rules are rules, everybody play under the same conditions.
