I always thought that blizzard should add bounty posters to pvp servers. Then players could post bounties on opposing factions by paying a bounty. Same faction bounties could be done at neutral faction areas for people causing problems.

I'm not gonna lie I got a little teary eyed when Kevin said he was watching people play and noticed how people need to group up for content and reaffirming that was the intent of the game all along to form bonds with other people. ;n; I want to reconnect with that aspect of WoW so badly. I Can't wait until Classic.

1:05:10 Original WoW dev Kevin talks about how the game was always designed to be a social experience with social solutions to problems, NOT GM or POLICY solutions. He talks about how being camped or greifed is NOT against the TOS (originally) and how there are social solutions to those problems (like asking friends to help kill a camper).

I cannot wait for guild rivalries to be a thing again. One of my favorite moments in WoW was racing a rival guild in Hyjal for server firsts and talking smack in general chat while pulling trash. That kind of playful competitiveness thrives in smaller, more social communities. Needless to say I’m excited.

The funniest moment in WoW for me was this. We were raiding Ulduar, we cleared up to Fraya. We were about halfway through the first wave when the mini adds spawn. Now as you guys know, you AOE them to half life and then pick them off one at a time to avoid the mass damage. Well or of the boomkins kept AOEing. We called over vent to stop. His response, “I have to AOE! I have no choice!” Vent exploded in laughter and we wiped. That’s just one of the fond memories that WoW has given me.

Sorry I'm going to be Cata biased here for a moment, you unfortunately missed out on some pretty fun and interesting elements during that time. PvP was actually extremely fun, reforging was a wonderful customization option, and obviously glyphs were super fun. They added a bit more skills for classes to plan out more openers/finishers. It's a shame you didn't stick around for it but I think Blizzard hit a plateau of new fail moreso now than ever, so much so that Cata and Warlords are afterthoughts. I would have enjoyed WoD tho, the soundtrack was beautiful and the art was brilliant...I made the mistake of pre-buying BfA due to silver tongue marketing words. I'm done with Blizzard for good tho, I am grateful they made the game, but I am no longer interested in their success because I feel the company to be ungrateful toward its blood(fans).

What your talking about at the start, that made classic so good is what made darksouls ( especially the first one ) so great. Its facing adversity together, the game is a pain in the balls but if you group up or simple talk and help eachother ( or even leave a message on the floor , darksouls) lets you work against it together.

I remember raiding, but I also remember being a lv. 10 priest and teaming up with a rogue for 3 hours as a new player in 2005 to complete quests. I remember whispering players to try and trade gear while in undercity and not knowing how to get to orgrimar and needing this guy to give me directions on how to get there. I remember farming scarlet monastery to complete the scarlet set for my warrior.

Could it be worked into the lore that classic becomes an alternate timeline with different content and storylines? I can see some sort of event with Nozdormu or something happening to the dark portal where instead of going to the outlands we are sent to alternate Azeroth or "elsewhere"..

Gladiator even from a slimey epeen perspective is wayyy more valuable in TBC & Wrath than modern XPACs because the server community is still prevalent enough for you to show it off. Also the class design was better and skillcap higher, better reward structure etc but the community element of walking out into durotar and knowing all of the people there is much better.
@DriftNick
@DriftNick 5 жыл бұрын
Skillcap higher in TBC? I got Gladiator in TBC, it definitely wasn't higher, class design became a lot better later on, at least as a warrior (Wotlk made warrior so much better), MoP was when warrior had the highest skillcap because you had so many tools. It's funny tho, people see me on my TBC gladiator mount and think I'm a great player even in recent xpacs, people that are actually good know it means nothing.
@Mr91Jmay
@Mr91Jmay 5 жыл бұрын
Most current R1s disagree skillcap higher in TBC. They all say player skill increased hugely
@posthardcoresinger
@posthardcoresinger 5 жыл бұрын
100% agree that wrath skillcap at least on warrior for sure was much higher in wrath, but I'll still take TBC over the modern game. TBC arena isn't really comparable to much else, it's a unique slow strategic era of arena (minus the super obvious scripted CD timings of the modern expacs). Pacing was much quicker in wrath and both your damage priority and internal mechanics (rage, weapon swing and gcd management) required a lot more nuance to master and were generally more dynamic. I could name all the specific reasons why wrath arms was the highest skillcap it's ever been but I'd be writing a book. MoP though? Lol. Homogenization was deep in at this point, and warriors hardly had to make any choices between damage and utility timings. Stance dancing was a shadow of it's former self. Early MoP sucked, I quit after it and then came back to play casually the last season. I think people are confusing "fun" due to well tuned balance in damage and healing terms with skillcap and good design, timing mattered a lot less in MoP.

"[PVP] is ultimately replayable" Before I quit 3 years ago, I would take my character into Halaa and the Hellfire Fortifications all the time, looking for *some* kind of spontaneous interaction with players that might escalate into a fun-back-and-forth. BGs were prescriptive; Ashran was prescriptive; everything else in the game consisted of players nearby but separated, min-maxing to meet some meta goal.
@wunsen95
@wunsen95 5 жыл бұрын
the batching window is fine some things should just be excluded from batching like mentioned, interrupts. ive seen this on pserver githubs years ago before everyone and their dog was talking about spell batching, iirc there was a bluepost stating explicity that interrupts were not a part of it. search for 'spell delay' - it was commonly referred to as this before 'spell batching' the hackfix many servers used for this was just to add a static delay for example 100ms to all abilities (this is what warmane used im pretty sure) rather than 1-400ms window that would be authentic, however interrupts would not have the added 100ms delay

A few terms were defined back in the day. Their meaning seems to have been lost over the years. Griefing - Hindering the interaction(s) of a player in any way. Ganking - Killing a member of the opposing faction by use of an unfair advantage. (Examples: Unreasonable level superiority; while the target is engaged with and/or at low health from a mob or mobs; target is AFK; etc). Camping - Purposefully waiting in a specific area to repeat an action. (Corpse-camping is the most common of this occurrence). PvP - All other confrontations not defined above. All of which are non-bannable offenses that have solutions available within the gameplay mechanics.

Even only on the most recent stress test i was playing my warrior and people would always share buffs and party up all the time. Was such a cool experience being able to connect with other players and having a blast with people who end up being friends. But griefing doesnt always have a solution, how do you deal with capped rogues who camp your spawn for hours, litterally to the point of being unplayable.

For dueling tournaments it should be easy. Blizzard could add a roving tournament event like they do for darkroom fair and holiday events. There would be a crew outside 1 major city setting up stands and vendors etc and then a sign-up period and then people can have a clear arena to fight in and stands for people to sit in and watch. They could have npc's roaming up and down the stands selling drinks and food and rockets or balls or other items. It would just be a fun community event.

is anyone else thinking about the classic wow [ bnet - friends list ] on the stress test. there are no filter options, show/hide, separation from in-game to launcher friends. anyone with more then 20 friends who don't play wow will be currently required to scroll through those people not playing the game you are interested in using the list for at that moment. this is time consuming and adds up since it requires you to scroll, which interrupts key binds during game play if you use a multi-button mouse and scroll to cast which allows typing normally while killing mobs. opinion is make it a separate tab with streamer show/hide support for realID.

would it even be possible for Blizz to remove sharding from the game again? at the same time, they could send players, that play on servers with a small population, to what servers they'd like to be moved to. That way, some of the tiny servers could just shut down and the rest of the servers would get filled a bit.

To Kevin Jordan's question about the best content. I know he said it was a trick question, but I have my period. For me the answer is easy, it was ICC10 normal. I was in a 25man heroic guild on my main. But on Sunday nights I would form a 10 man raid with 4 or 5 other friends and then PuG the rest. I would buy a six pack. And we would just have fun. We never killed more than 7 bosses, because my friends weren't that good, and it didn't matter. We just had fun. ICC 10 man normal was a perfect mix of decent raid, combined with just the right difficulty for that super casual fun run. Sadly Blizzard was never able to recreate it, and because of that we were given the abomination that is LFR. And I myself was never able to recreate it trying with different guilds and what not. Sadly even on private servers it is unrecreateable because PS's are just filled with turbonerds that don't understand fun. Probably a blasphemous answer on a Classic related podcast, but I don't care...lol

THis Kevin Jordan guy seems to think of WoW the same way that original D&D players used to think. Being in the age group he is, he probably was one of those kids back then. There weren't really many video games, so the social aspect of D&D was great for "nerdy" kids. I think that's what's great about the game designers who were making games for the first 20-30 years of game design. They were trying to KEEP the social aspect of life contained within the games. They wanted to give like-minded people a platform to connect through since they were, originally, kind of rare. Now, with technology making everything less personal and separating us in so many way, i think people like Kevin could actually do the world a HUGE service through their philosophy of game design. I feel like if we could get more Kevin Jordan's back into game design, we would see things like suicide rates among young people drop quite a bit because they'll have a support system of sorts. This may all seem a bit too deep for a video game channel, and I'm sorry if this all seems a bit far-fetched or lofty. I do speak from a certain amount of personal experience on this topic though. I was 20 when WoW came out. So still pretty young. Being 35 (will be 36 at launch) now, I look back at a LOT of the things in my young life that I didn't appreciate enough while they were happening. It's just a thing we do as we get older I think. I missed out on some things I shouldn't have, and I was also too quick to wish for "better game design" when something didn't work the way i thought it should. Or when I thought something was too difficult and took too much time. Classic gives me a chance to be more appreciative this time around. I can't tell you how exciting that concept is.

Soooooo true, I am counting down the days till classic. I never realized how much The social and rpg elements have been bled away by xpac after xpac. I am so over joyed classic is coming home and I can relive my fond members of the actual WORLD of Warcraft.

Instead of adding Raids to classic they should add in the events like Christmas, Halloween, and other holidays. I still remember the Headless Horseman terrorizing the low level city in Dun Morogh

I think I know what you're trying to say Esfand, but as someone that's been basically completely PvP oriented since late TBC/WOTLK I'm not sure how can you say pushing gladiator or R1 isn't as socially valuable or has its own community, to which you then compared to doing a quest or single dungeon (Uldaman) in vanilla... I love vanilla, I do not like BFA, but that's a pretty nonsensical comparison to me as the majority of my "WoW friends" at this point are the guys I pushed 3s/5s/RBGs (and yes some from premades in vanilla to be fair!) with for years. Just because it doesn't fit your playstyle doesn't mean there aren't huge social communities there and I'd argue the "hardcore" PvP community is probably one of the biggest remaining bastions of such in the modern game that has any of vanilla's social aspects left. Either way, loved the podcast overall, just my little criticism. Thanks for doing this guys.

So what were you thinking when you designed the warlock 31 talents?

It's a little vindicating to hear that Kevin is on board with the idea of Classic+/patch 1.13. Either way though I'd be down with classic+ or TBC. Would be nice to play a paladin again and raid unapologetically ret.

Althought i agree community is really important, it's only half of the formula : meaningfull work/reward is the other half. On another note, the warsong flag batching i am pretty sure isnt vanilla. I played A LOT of warsong back in the day ( i grinded two rank 14 back then) and i have zero memory of this thing happening.
