Classic Game Room reviews BATTLETOADS for Sega Genesis (technically this is the Sega Mega Drive cartridge) from Rare, released in 1992. Known for its insane difficulty and unforgiving instant deaths, Battletoads is not for the weak hearted or those without a Game Genie.
CGR Battletoads KZfaq review has Battletoads gameplay recorded from Sega Genesis / Sega Mega Drive and shows footage of the Battletoads LP vinyl soundtrack being played.

Me too, it's much easier to farm 1-ups during the Wookie Hole descent so I can actually beat this version.

Between Rare Rare Replay, their appearance in Shovel Knight,(X-Box One Version) and Rash being a DLC character in the new Killer Instinct, I REALLY think Battle Toads is coming back.

I bought the Xbox One version of Shovel Knight just to play the Battletoads stages ! Was totally worth it !

This Genesis version of the game is the one I played more than any other. No denying the challenge and the appeal of this one.

I'm getting Rare Replay soon, so I'm gonna play Battletoads again... Reliving all those childhood times where me and my friends yelled at each other over how 'good' they were at Battletoads...

I never knew there was a Genesis version of the original Battletoads. Very kool. I still have nightmares about the race bike sections on Battletoads NES.

Perhaps the best pause music in the history of gaming. Guess it needed to be since you'd have to pause Battletoads a lot to give you time to find another controller after throwing and bashing the first ones on the wall from all the frustration.

Just wow!I was completely oblivious to the Sega version of battletoads.The only ones I recall are the ones for the Nes,Snes and the infamous arcade version.

I still have this game on the Genesis since 2003 and I still do today. Bought it at EB Games on Saratoga in San Jose, CA for $8.00.

Apparently this port is developed by Arc System Works, under NCS/Masaya (the Japanese publishers of the NES game)'s supervision.

What a great game. I've only played the NES, Game Gear and a little SNES (on an emulator). And I don't return to it a lot, due to its difficulty, but it is definitely one of the best games of all time.

Battleborn = Solo, Co-op, Versus, Story Mode Overwatch = Run in circles with japanese looking characters and shoot (that's the whole game)

I'm not casting judgement on the game, and I meant it more for Adam Parker's comment of it being sold out on every platform. Battleborn and Overwatch aren't even that similar anyway.

Battletoads was the first game my dad bought me when I was little, and it was one of the first games I've ever played... I really love it! You can't go wrong with either version of Battletoads, they're both really good, I think the Genesis version is better because of the 16 bit graphics and FM synth music, but they're both really good! However the best Battletoads game (That I've played) is definitely Battletoads in Battlemaniacs on the Super Nintendo!

Why would it release the same year for the NES that the SNES came out? Just hold on to it a little longer and port it to the SNES. Unless they're pulling the "Release for two consoles at once" Thing they did with Twilight Princess... Just solved that one in this one comment. Good job, me

Disagree about the Genesis version sounding and playing better than the NES version. The cartoon pilot was awful, but the Nintendo Power comic was decent.

I gotta disagree on the music. Maybe it's just that the NES one was my version, but there's something about the Battletoads that just doesn't work with that FM synth. It just sounds off somehow.

Carlos Henrique floaty controls, unreasonably high difficulty, mediocre graphics, generic TMNT rip-off... It's overrated.

First off, the floaty controns aren't a issue, they acctually help with the accuracy, the difficult is a trademark of the game, the game would be not as memorable without'it, also it's not cheap difficult, it's pure trial and error and memorization, and ARE YOU CRAZY?! These are some of the best graphics for the NES, 3D depth's, paralel scrolling, colorful graphics and memorable locking levels, and yes it's a TMNT Rip-off, but a Kick-ass one. It deservs the praise!

Carlos Henrique floaty controls are always an issue. And yes, it is cheap difficulty. Trial and error/memorization are pretty much the worst and cheapest solution for designers to infuse their game with difficulty. And as far as the gfx go, I was talking about the Genesis version.

I don't remember what game i was saving for but when i finally get the money i ask my aut to buy my the game for UAE (Becouse there was no games in my country) and i get these. To these day i;m scared of these game, it is the worst game ever, i hate it from the bottom of my heart. Same story happen next year but she get me Hellfire, hellfire is cool at last

The hoverboard levels remind me of one of the Teenage Ninja Mutant games although great on Super Nintendo and Mega drive amazing on the arcades.

Yeah this was a tough game I remember it well.Your probably right about the conspiracy theory. Rare made some amazing games Donkey Kong Country being the best.
