I remember seeing the 4-player version of this game at my city's arcade when I was a kid. Good times.

This is my all time favorite beat em up. There used to be one at a local theater and it ate more than a few allowances of mine. I love how the enemies pop like over filled water balloons when they die, it's such a satisfying feeling.

OH. MY. GOD. I've been looking for this game forever. My best friend and I used to play this all the time. They had it at our local ice-rink, we would pay to get in just to play this, to this day I still can't skate. I couldn't remember the name of it and everytime I described it to someone they would always say "Your thinking of Altered Beast" but I knew that's not what I was thinking of. Altered Beast is nothing compared to METAMORPHIC FORCE.

Konami needs to make a Konami Arcade Beat 'em Up Collection of some sort. We have arcade collections, greatest hits collections, retro collections, fighter collections.... even a Dreamcast collection. We need a Beat 'em Up collection from Konami!!! And Capcom too!

I've always wondered what the name of this game was. I was very fortunate to play this game on a 4 player arcade cabinet back in high school. I actually used the bull character quite a lot, and my friends and I beat this game back in high school. Its good I can actually associate a name to this game.

Violent Storm is another quality Konami beat'em-up from around the same time. One of the bosses is a parody of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It's great.

I love their reviews from way back when. It makes the think that, when I play my Dreamcast, it's brand new and the 56k lag in Quake Arena doesn't matter.

Not to mention this game has an awesome Power Metal soundtrack. Makes this game even more bad ass than it already is.

This plays like a well refined combination of Golden Axe, abit of Altered Beast, and more notably Konami's X-Men. Truly a game that Konami and history has forgotten, and deserves a HD re-release, and put on an arcade collection disc, with C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa (Sunsetriders 2 in a nutshell), Midnight Run, GTI Club, and any other Konami game that needs a good re-release.

This game looks very similar to the X-Men arcade machine. I loved that game so much.

This looks very similar to XMEN THE ARCADE. That panther dude even walks and has Nightcrawler's special!

The game feels a lot like X-Men as well, though obviously enhanced in a number of ways including grapple moves. What you call a desperation move is a little different as it's based on grabbing a power up rather than using button input. There are separate crowd-control moves for the characters.

Cool review. It was hard for beat em ups to compete in 1993 without a solid license which is likely why this one isn't so well known. Altered Beast mixed with Golden Axe and plays like X-Men. Good stuff. I didn't like this game much initially, but I came around. Lots of fun to play. I think Shock Troopers should be game of the year, though.

X-men (Arcade Version) + Altered Beast = Metamorphic Force (Lovechild)

It's like the play style of Final Fight, the gimmick of Altered Beast and set in the distant future (the real 2000?) I can see why it's such a great game :)

It looks like the used the game engine from the X-Men arcade game. The characters seem to be "graphic hacks" of the X-Men characters with the same moves.

Transforming into beast reminds me from something really nasty.... Altered beast for the Mega drive.

This game is, indeed, a transformative experience- Pun not intended. One cannot play this game and not feel changed forever. A flagrant ripoff of Altered Beast, right down to the Greco-Roman stylization of the goddess and the big boss? Yes, but leave us to consider it more... An improvement. ... Seriously, this game is amazing and you should all play it, by any means necessary.

Would love to see this game brought to consoles via Xbox live and psn. Konami has already come out with games like this on that platform and they should do the same with this!

I never got to play metamorphic force in the arcades.First tine id played it was through mame thankfully enough.Then i wonder why konami never gave it a port,since it's a great beat'em up.If mark is looking for another obscure one,he should try NINJA BASEBALL BATMAN next ~_^
