Classic Game Room reviews RANGER X for Sega Genesis from 1993! Part man, part machine, ALL AWESOME. Ranger X is a blue robot who uses a flamethrower and rides a cyber skateboard with homing lasers. Ranger X is an outrageous side scrolling platformer / arcade style shooter where your robot wastes enemy robots with lasers, missiles, flame throwers and a cyber skateboard. Score points and marvel at the amazing visuals, stunning background and sprite work and super music. CGR Ranger X video review features Ranger X gameplay recorded from Sega Genesis / Sega Mega Drive.

I picked this up at a liquidation sale back when it came out. The event had a bunch of random stuff, and the Genesis games were all titles no one talked about. This was the game I got, was my first "blind buy" I remember and was risky cause I only got new games once or twice a year. Took me a bit to get into it, once I got it mastered though I knew it would become a hidden gem later on. Glad to see it's getting some mention now.

Tips for playing this game: -Do not be confused by the controls, they're easy once you think of it as twin-stick shooting. Dpad controls Ranger-X, A shoots left, C shoots right and B is your special -Ex Up (motorcycle only) has a seperate health bar from Ranger X, so you can take more damage if you balance who gets hit. -Ex up cycle has homing shots when you merge with it. Holding down and letting go lets you jump! -Look for secret weapons, there's one REALLY special one on the skyscraper level. -Sunlight/light recharges your special, look for light anywhere to refill your gauge.
@Lv28fighter
@Lv28fighter 9 жыл бұрын
Yea, I wonder if Mark ever got it? As soon as I snagged that special weapon, I only really changed it during times when I need to spam a quick firing weapon. Spoiler The special weapon is a massive beam of pure death and destruction. It deals SIGNIFICANT damage to anything caught in the blast. The only con with it is that it eats up your entire special bar, so you just have to recharge it completely before you can fire it again.

One more thing about the light that opens up from the ceiling in the second level, those spots were the only areas you could recharge health. You could easily die elsewhere if you got cornered. Interesting game mechanic.

Such a great game. I remember receiving one year for Christmas when it came out. Never heard of it, never even seen it in the stores before or after I received it. It was just kind of there. It still is one of my favorite Genesis games out there, and its super challenging.

Its such an intricate clever game, I think the developers have poured into it. When you're in the light it replenishes your special weapon meter. In level one you're constantly in the light. Level 2 you have to shoot parts of the ceiling to reveal light shafts. Level 3 when you're on the outside of the forest you're in the light and when in the forest the suns blocked out by the trees, hence the change in the colour pallet. Also shoot the apples and collect them when they fall for an energy boost. Level 4 you get light from the lit up apartments in the skyscraper etc. Absolutely love this game x

Thank God this game was part of my childhood. Growing up, I would ask others if they heard of the game and no one had heard of it until a couple of years ago when I went into a local Game store and found it and the clerk totally knew it. It was nice to fanboy over the game with someone else :D Everyone should play this game!

I found out about this one and picked up a cart just a little over a year ago. I love this game. It's a lot of fun, technically impressive and well made. Some of the backgrounds effects are stunning. I do agree with the criticisms here. It is tricky to figure out a few things at first and it's not quite as cohesive as some other games, but it's still a great experience. I hope it sees a rerelease somewhere so more people can discover it, even if they don't have Genesis hardware. Even though stage two slows things down and is hard to figure out at first, it's one of my favorite parts of the game now. Not only do those beams of light kill those annoying flying enemies in the cave, they also restore the mech's special weapon and flying power.

Juliano Bittencourt (I'll keep in English just to keep the mates aware of the subject) Mercado Livre had it a while ago, but I think the listing ended. You can search the japanese version, which is called "Ex-Ranza". It's easier to find international shipping in Japan. But you can also ask the sellers if they can offer express shipping to Brazil with tracking and insurance (maybe the seller just don't bother to put that information). Anyway, communication is always the key.

This game also makes full use of the six button Genesis controller. Genesis has a lot of hidden gems. Sadly some of the best never came here outside of the Sega Channel. BUT!!! You can of course buy repro carts of Genesis titles. Just go do some searching and you'll find some. Heck I'll post a link on here for you all. Some really great games to check out are: Mega Man: The Wiley Wars Pulseman (made by the pokemon folks!) Alien Soldier Gleylancer Eliminate Down Panorama Cotton Monster World 4 Yu Yu Hakusho Undead Line There are also some awesome homebrews out there like the recent Pier Solar rpg. Here's a link to an awesome store that makes some of these repros I'm talking about. They're really worth it! www.etsy.com/shop/Retrognome
