+Daniel Browning I'm fairly certain she wasn't playing like this at 5. Having 4 years of practice on a thing could make anyone an expert.
@scottashbymusic8 жыл бұрын
+abigguitar not out to argue with you here bud, but Daniel said she started learning at 5, he didn't say she could play this at 5.. Also 4 years of practicing an instrument is not nearly enough time to become this good, she really is something special. Professional adults who have spent at least a decade practicing may struggle with the complexity of this piece. Even the prodigy Paganini on his violin spent his whole life playing and learnt new things each day, you can't ever truly master an instrument (yes you can be INCREDIBLE) but even masters are still learning, much love X

Alisa is such a pleasure to listen to. My only regret is that new videos of her do not come out often and have a very low viewership. But my understanding, from her teacher Olga Shevelevich, is that she is becoming very well known in the European classical world.

I wish I could give you a harp, lessons, and 4 years. I would bet the house you would not sound like this unless you are prodigy yourself.

Oh my! She plays this with a lot of feeling and emotion which is so very impressive for someone this young. Usually, young prodigies can master a song technically, but playing with this much elegance is rare in a young prodigy. And I love the little smile immediately after she plays the last note. It shows that she loves what she is doing. She is something special.

for anyone who doesn't know, the shuffling sounds as she plays are her pressing the pedals. look at the top of the harp, where the strings meet the metal. every time one string set of those disks move, that's a pedal being moved. there are seven pedals, each with three different positions. that means she's thinking of 21 different positions that her pedals need to move to, sometimes doing multiple at once, with just her two feet, all while her hands play the beautiful strings. this is absolutely incredible... i feel so lucky to be able to listen to her play.

This is coming from a teenage violinist/pianist and I found this recording through twoset lol but I’m so glad they brought me here I think that this interpretation is amazing the voicing of the different melodic lines and they way in which she ends the phrases and the dynamics it’s all so amazing. I just wanted to let you know that from a non harpist, don’t get me wrong, I’m sure that this is extremely difficult, also to play it as she does, but she makes it look so effortless, I can tell just how talented she is.

@Astrobrant2 Жыл бұрын
@@bananahharpist While watching some harp videos a few years ago and seeing all those gadgets at the top, and also seeing them move and hearing the mechanical clicking and thumping, I went to Wiki and read about the instrument. I was fascinated. I had no idea it was so complex. I had always wondered how the harp could have such a large range with as few strings as that. Now I know. For those who don't know, the seven pedals operate those stops along the top so that each string can play three different notes. Each of six of those pedals has to be held down while needed, and one of them locks with one push, then unlocks with a second push (IIRC). Amazing stuff! Also, viewers, if you notice, harps flare out at the bottom. That's because the whole bottom is a sounding board and serves the same purpose as the body of a guitar or violin: to amplify the sound. Without it, the harp would be hard to hear. Most of what you are hearing is coming from the base, not the strings -- especially for the deeper notes, I would guess, which is why it gets wider at that end of the harp. My daughter was married shortly after I did that research, and there was a harpist for the wedding. I couldn't wait to go see the harp up close and ask the harpist some questions. Unfortunately, she didn't stay for the reception, and left when I wasn't looking.

To amp up the ability of this young lady even more, the camera isn't even catching her nearly flawless pedal changes involved in this piece (if you didn't know, there are seven pedals on the base of the harp that allow it to play in all keys. Whenever an accidental occurs, the harpist is required to change the appropriate pedal for that, particular accidental. She makes a few mistakes, but, otherwise, it's amazing).

@TiffanyAllen17845 жыл бұрын
fancylong Most harpists play from memory, I think. If you practice a piece long enough you usually memorize it by default, whichever instrument you play, I think. It’s especially helpful for harpists, though, so they can focus their attention on the strings. Even the 9-year old non-prodigy harpist I know generally knows the pieces by heart quite quickly. It’s obviously a lot more difficult to memorize every dynamic and note and key change in a complicated piece like this one, but the mind and muscle memory usually grow alongside the musician.

@annbellgrau5 жыл бұрын
@@Smokeymcpot713 Are you sure about that? Of course that's sadly the case with many child prodigies, but to me it seems that she enjoys playing that harp a lot. And she very well could have wanted to play the harp at the age of five, I wanted to be a ballerina at the age of four and that's when I started to dance ONLY because I myself wanted that and my parents allowed me to start ballet. Her talent is extraordinary, let's hope she has time to be a little girl, doing things that ordinary girls take for granted. And pray that she doesn't get an inflated idea of her own importance. It must be so hard to have a child who is gifted, to strike the right balance between encouragement and pushing. I'm sure we'll see more of this young lady - if she wants it.

Awe struck!! Beyond spectacular! AND as mentioned, there are seven pedals that are activated by foot so that flats and sharps can be played.They have to be moved silently and instantly to facilitate and execute the composition's #'s and b's. This what the black keys on a piano, organ or harpsichord do. If not done skillfully the mechanism that "pinches" to raise or lower the length of the string (just like pressing down on the strings of the guitar, violins and cellos) can cause a buzzing or twang sound. This phenomenal talent has been taught, I believe, the French harpist Marcel Grandjany technique of "pulling" on the strings somewhat with the sides of the fingers engaging the more fleshy contact area, creating a more "mellow" type of sound. The other technique taught to pull on the strings was developed by the Spanish harpist Carlos Salzedo. This uses the skin side of the finger tip opposite side from the fingernail. This creates a more "brittle" quality tone similar to the Spanish quitar. I grew up in a household with my harp playing mother who used the harp to accompany herself while singing instead of the piano or quitar. She was an honors choral conductor and piano major at Northwestern University and sang professionally giving concerts throughout Europe, Wis., Chicago and it's North Shore communities during the 50's and 60's. My involment with the harp during that period when I was in high school, consisted of loading the station wagon with several different sized harps and carriers, lights, gowns etc several times a week before I went to school in the morning and then after school when she drove back. She would occasionally include me (piano) and my two sisters (harp) in her programs. By the time my oldest sister graduated from high school she was earning money performing with area and university orchestras that did music that specifically required harp (Benjamin Britten's A Ceremony of Carols, sung with a women's chorus and other works). She won a national harp competition and was awarded a full tuition scholarship on harp to the Eastman School of Music. She went on to be the harp faculty at the University of Denver and first call union harpist as well as perform in the Denver Symphony. That's why I was so "flabbergasted" hearing this nine year old little girl play the difficult harp standard virtually perfect with such compelling musicianship!!!
