It's not that you are or were a 'lazy teacher' It's because like all good teachers, you have a bazillion things on your mind at any given moment and marking down a kid on a chart or handing off a craft stick usually isn't one of them! Your passion for teaching, and energy comes thru your videos! Your kiddos are lucky to have you!

I got rid of my clip chart this year and I couldn't be happier about it. We use tickets to reinforce their good behavior and then they can go an buy a prize with their earned tickets!!! Thanks for sharing your ideas!

you are not lazy teacher. you are a busy teacher and it takes time to do it all. It is easier to do it if you have a nap time period, but you also need time to lesson plan and do other things. I love the calendars. One thing I have watched from "One Fab Teacher" on youtube I watched about was the "Super Improver Wall". I want to use it when I do student teaching and int he future. In the past I have done the clip chart, colors with stickers, a money system, and a point system. I think I would like to do the calendars and write in good and bad behaviors on there so then all students get a note. the take home folder would have the calendar, but also notes of events coming up, and have stickers on the calendar of how many stickers kids have so far within the level they are on with the super improver wall. I would do 10 levels on the wall and children would need 20 stickers to get moved up to the next level. I would give out a prize everytime someone moved up a level. one sticker for each day. when they beat the top level, they will get a very big surprise prize. another thing i have done in my classroom is to buy a cheap gift and wrap it up and give it to the child on their birthday as well as cover/decorate a chair so then they have the birthday seat. they loved it. i taught an afterschool classroom doing this. :)

I liked the one you are currently using. Right now at my school we do weekly incentives on our team. We have 8th grade. Incentives are on Fridays the last 10 minutes of school day. This week is super inventive Friday, last Friday of month. Discipline system we use is schoolwide but each team is required to do an incentive program to support it. We have done different things. Week 1 chips or cookies, week 2 candy and listen to music on phones, week 3, coupons. This week chips or cookies, outside time, listen to music on phones. 20 minutes this week instead of 10.

I teach 1st grade and I use a clip chart (one that goes up and down) but I turned a twist on it. I don’t move clips back to green at the end of the day. If they moved up to blue the next day they start on blue until they get to pink (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink) once they get to pink they get to move back to green and they get something from my treasure box and they can start again. Same if they move down they have to earn it back up they don’t just get to have it moved back up. I’ve had a boy be on red for 3 days till he fixed it and got to pink the 4th day. Ive done this the last two years and my kiddos love it. I am also a very lazy teacher so it helps to not have to remember to move clips back to green every day.

Oh yes - anything that takes keeping up with is just really hard! I have used a counter system. Everyone had 5 counters and I would remove counters for inappropriate behaviours. If they lost all the counters they then had to stay in. I had so many talkers who just would not modify their behaviour, no matter what I did. This year I haven't had to do anything. My kids are just really fantastic. I think once or twice I had to start keeping them in if I had to wait for their attention. They stayed in for five minutes on two days and then everything settled down again. I am loving having such a dreamy year, in terms of behaviour.

Most of the schools and classes here do the clip chart system. Some schools didn’t do much with it other then kids getting phrased or a jewel on their clip. For misbehaviors it was missing recess, centers, calling parents. At other schools, kids get prizes and the teachers do extra things as well. In addition to the chart some schools use a point system where they take point away or add them depending on the behavior. Now it’s pretty new to me as a sub. But I was in a kindergarten class for a week and it seemed to work. All the teachers in the school had access to the points. So if say your student was acting up in the lunch room, the duty teacher could take away points or add them. Same with music, art, library, P.E. and interventions.now I know a lot of teachers hate the chart system or any kind of solid behavior system. But for me it depends on the class or school. I don’t judge one behavior system based on what people say or studies. I judged based on if it seemed to work for the class I was in.

From one lazy teacher to another...... I keep track of dojo points using beads. I keep a tub of beads with me and if a student does something to earn a dojo point they get a bead. At the end of the lesson/day, they turn their beads into me and I’ll add it to their dojo :) using the beads allows me to keep the flow and momentum of my lesson while still reinforcing awesome behavior.

I use dojo but don't send anything home since parents are linked in and can see in real time. I had a chart with points and they could turn in their points for various things. 10 points - jelly bean, 20 points - treasure box, 30 points use the teacher's chair etc. The only thing I had to do what make sure to let parents know that if they saw a huge loss of points it was because students were "spending" them! LOVE LOVE LOVE dojo though. I loved that I could have it up on my smart board and take/give points on my phone from another spot in the room. I loved that it could travel with me whereever we went - if we were in an assembly all I had to do was point to my phone and a behaviour would stop on the spot. Kids loved it too.

Oh, and a question: Did the kids ever “lose” there logs? If they did, did you lose all of your data? Or, did you also mark it down on your own log when you gave them the smile/number? Was there a consequence if their parents didn’t initial the log?

I have fuzzies (Pom-poms) that my kids earn throughout the day and at the end of the day they gain dojo points based on their fuzzies. On Fridays they get to buy coupons with their points. Everyone starts the day with two so that’s two chances before they miss 5 minutes of recess. If I ask for a fuzzy and a student does not have one then it’s a parent contact. They are responsible for putting their fuzzies in their bag at their table. It helps to keep kids from running all over the room. I also have big fuzzies for hallway behavior that are worth 5 pts.

First year 3rd grade teacher and I'm using Whole Brain Teaching! Scoreboard, practice cards, super improved team. It's working well, I find that we have fun with it. And it's good for the lazy teacher lol

In annville pa in 9th grade geometry the teacher uses classroom dojo to add points. So if you finish homework, or correct the teacher like a spelling error. Or math error or anything you get points. When you got to a certain number you got bonus points on tests and stuff. It can easily be adaptable to little kids

Class DOJO sounds like a lot of work. I find TIME is so limited and having to record every student's behavior daily is overwhelming. I like the calendar system the best and I am going to implement it in October to my 4th grade students. Thank you! 👍😁

How did you deal with it if kids were not bringing their folders home to their parents or getting them signed?

My school wide system is PBIS, so we have a pocket chart with different colored cards. For rewards, I set up a Monopoly style game. My rewards are what the community chest would be in the game. Like your coupons, it's things that I think the kids might enjoy. When I see them doing something positive based on our Class Contract, or working toward their behavior goals (I teach special ed) they get to move 1 space on the board. For my weekly reports, on the front side of the sheet, I list out 3 of their goals and an open circle for each day of the week. If they didn’t meet their goal, I color the circle red. If they partially met it, I color it yellow, and if they met it I color it green. On the backside of the sheet, I listed all of the possible rewards and just check off what they earned. They stay on a clipboard next to my pocket chart and game board. I prefer to email or call parents for in depth comments.,

Random question. What brand/shade of polish are you wearing?

I am teaching ESL students in South Korea so as a foreign teacher I can not have any systems that involve parents at any stage. So I am probably going to do something like the popsicle stick & privately recording negatives system.

I use Class Dojo in my classroom and it has been working great this year!! What do you do when there is a sub? I'm worried that my students will be wild if they aren't held responsible for their actions. But I also do not want to give my sub access to my account due to confidentiality with my conversations with parents.

Do you reset the points every week?

We work for plinko chips, positive behavior is rewarded with additional chips everyone starts with one and they get to play plinko on Friday and earn prizes

I'm using a system similar to your when it comes to ClassDojo and Dojo dollars. Being a lazy teacher 🙈, one of my class jobs is payroll. On Fridays, it is that student's responsibility to match the Dojo points for class money and pay each student. I have 1's, 5's, 10's, 20's, 50's, and 100's. It's a great way to teach students to count money, to use fewer bills, and so I won't forget to give them their money. Ever other Monday, I have a class store filled with candy, toys, and coupons they can buy with their money. 😊

Our school administration requires us to do only 7 seconds of missed recess and then if they continued to misbehave have it be 33 seconds of missed recess.
