I recommend doing a class “store” my fifth grade teachers did it, anytime a kid or kids do something king or really good on school work they get a “dollar” (a piece of green paper) then they get to “buy” something every Friday. PS there are different color for different amounts 1=green 5=orange 10=yellow 20=purple. Another PS you could do suckers,pencils etc as 5, larger candy, etc, little toy, trinkets from target dollar section or dollar tree

A tip for fifth grade is some of them get nervous putting there hand up for help so you could give each child a red green and amber card that they can put on the end of there desks so if there fine with the work green, a little stuck (amber) and really stuck (red). Also I know they like personal things so we got like a mental health ball that squeezes and it’s really soft with a personal name on it and it is good for kids with autism or just when the kids are stressed or in a test. If they play with it you can just take it off them but make your own rules up for them. I hope this helped!

It is so interesting to see how different schools are setting up during this unprecedented time. I haven’t seen one video that is actually taking the CDC guidelines into account. Meanwhile I am gearing up to teach remotely and NOTHING is normal. Even if we get back on campus there will be NO manipulatives, NO small groups....nothing NORMAL.

So exciting to hear a first year teacher with all your excitement. I still get excited too! One piece of advice I would give is make sure where ever you are teaching, make sure you can see the entire room. Don't back yourself in a corner. Make sure you can "see" the room. Good luck!

I recommend that when they are good, and it is reading time, you tell them that they can sit in the corner. ( Fill it with bean bags, pillows, rugs, etc. ) They’ll LOVE it.

This is one of the things that I can’t wait for when I finish college and get my first classroom- setting it up. I’ve had so many ideas about classrooms, ever since I was a student in elementary my own self. I’ve even come up with a theme I love and hope to be able to do it at my future school, because it fits me so well! Happy classroom and I hope you have a good year!

Yo we don’t have bathrooms or water fountains in our room so it would be really helpful because kids are always asking to get waters to get out of the classroom

I was a 5th Grader last year. The bad news is that I failed because of the whole quarantine thing and had to take online summer school. The good news is that I passed and now I'm in 6th grade! I love watching these types of videos. They're very calming.

As a 5th grader myself, make sure you get extra pads in a storage space in the bathroom cuz most girls, like me will be 11 and are going to be getting their first periods. I’ve already had mine 3 months ago, so be prepared!!!(also get ready for helping the first perioders!!)

Wow. Thank you for this video. It is helpful for first year and not new teachers set up. God bless you for your help. I like that you have a bathroom and drinking fountains in your room. Also the outdoor space is awesome. I would put blinds on the windows so students don't get distracted when I am teaching. I would open them in the morning when they eat breakfast so that they can have a nice start to the day with the morning sunshine. I would also open them during different times in the day when I am not teaching to add natural sunlight to the room.

I am going into 5th grade. 1 more year till Middle School. Ugh. Anyways for some reason, I am obsessed with watching teachers set up their classroom space for 2020. I just like seeing how their space is going to look because of Covid-19.

Tip: So one of my teachers gave all of the students a tiny piece of paper and called them our wallets. Every day she would give us 4 stickers for attendance, and everytime we did something bad or bought snack from her during snack time, she would take away 6-10 stickers. Every month there would be a "Sticker Store" where she would buy all types of things and at the end of the day everyone took turns going to her desk and looking for up to 5 things they wanted. The items would cost up to 2-85ish stickers. And when I tell you the students went CRAZY for sticker store- Its not really a learning experience, but a fun thing to do for your class.

Girl those are some NICE portables! I was a student in a portable back in 7th grade... it was just a rectangle classroom with a tiny window that the teacher claimed for his area! You having a bathroom in there blew my mind! I had a push-button light to signal that someone was in the restroom, then changed it to a sign that the students would flipped for “open” and “closed”. Obviously, neither of those ideas will work for this year... if you think of something for bathroom procedures, let us know! 😂
