This is my favorite series to film because I love creating a warm, welcoming space for my students. This year is a little different because I have new challenges in regard to the space, and I am teaching 2nd grade instead of 6th! You deserve a medal because you have gone from third grade to sixth grade and now to second grade. Entering second graders have shorter attention spans and it helps to think like one. I hope that your windows in your classroom can be opened to allow fresh air to circulate. Take care.

I love watching your videos. This will also be my 4th year. I’ve been in 2nd and if you loved 3rd, I really think you’ll love 2nd. They’re not “too cool” yet and are so sweet & they grow so much. It’s such transitional year. I have a calendar board in my room and we go over the date, tomorrow is/yesterday was, season, and our specials everyday. I’ve found that they don’t know all of their days of the week and how to spell them, nor have a concept of time and this has really been helpful.

Just a thought.. you could put all of the same size bookcases together to make a reading book and move the lower one that you are going to put a cushion on under the bulletin board so it is still visible and functional! Love your classroom so far!

You should make the desks into “U” shaped with the triangle desks, I remember my AVID classroom teacher set it up for collaboration but idk if it’s a good idea for 2nd graders, just an idea 😊 love your videos and mindset 💞

Last year I was a kindergarten/ first grade teacher. Keep about 6 of the big kid chairs, so you can have your small group table at a comfortable height for you to work at. It will save you back, plus my kids loved the big chairs.

By far my favourite person to watch setting up their classroom. I had a terrible training year a goood few years ago and I’ve never gone into being a teacher since as im terrified of failing myself and the kids. But watching these videos every year gets me so inspired and brings my love back 💖

The bulletin boards are so cute! I moved from 5th to 1st a few years ago and so yes ask for your desks to be lowered and new chairs:) Also the white storage shelf in your reading corner could go in the corner against the wall instead of sticking out so that the kids could lean against the wall as they read and you wouldn't have empty space there. Just a thought. I cant wait to see how it all turns out!

I have 30 of those oddly shaped desks in my classroom (school renovations last year), and I can’t get rid of any of them, no matter how many students I have. They annoyed me all year. I finally came up with a desk arrangement towards the middle of the year, but it was never the ideal situation.🤦🏽‍♀️

Super cute classroom! 😍 Those colors are everything! 😍 They are bright, fun and the kids will love them! 💖 I found on Amazon a great magnetic staple remover and it’s really a time saver. Just in case, and if you don’t have it yet, it’s call Bostitch Magnetic Staple Remover. It helped me a lot with my decorations around my classroom. Can’t wait to see your beautiful classroom once it’s finished! 😉

I enjoyed this so much. My sister is a elementary school teacher who burned out. She was a great teacher worked at least sixty per week. I always enjoyed this time a year working on her room. Together we did awesome thems. She's the arrest and I was the layout. Have an awesome year.

I also teach second grade. This year they are building an addition to the school consisting of two new classrooms. I’m one of the new rooms. They are behind schedule, so all of my things are in the gym. 😢 I’ll be rushing, so I’m “spying” on you to get some ideas! 😂

maybe use one of the bulletins as an art gallery. display students artwork or if they want to write a story, they can display it for the rest of the class to read.

Just a suggestion to do your desk spacing first and then can see what room is left for your things. We had to have 6 feet between teachers and students but the students can be 3-6 feet.

You are SO lucky to have your own furniture! We go back brick and mortar with social distancing, so NO personal furniture of any kind, including rugs! Ugh! No small groups either! Any suggestions are welcome 🙏

We were told to remove all personal items so in case they need to disinfect or spray our room, our personal items won’t be damaged ...

I teach 2nd about 30min away from where you are, and we had to remove all of our personal items, flex seating, rugs, books, rolling book carts, small group setups. Everything. My principal is being cool about letting us leave everything until we actually have an in person return date, which won't be decided until at least end of October. Then it will all have to be moved into storage I will have to pay for. I have pushed all of my desks to the middle of the room for now and just set up my live teaching and lesson filming areas.

The setup stress does not get better. This is year 15 for me and I STILL stare and reconfigure my room at least 10 times before I’m satisfied. I teach K-8 English as a Second Language so I have TWO rooms to set up. Eek!

Even though I retired in June of 2019 I still like watching your videos. How come you moved again, now to second grade, it seems like you just moved to sixth?I taught second grade most of my 41 years of teaching and loved it. I am surprised they are keeping you in a sixth grade classroom. Doesnt your school have grade level wings? Best of luck to you! Be strong my teacher friends!

Yep moving again! There is a bubble in enrollment at our site so there is movement. I volunteered! We do have wings but due to COVID my principal felt as though there is enough to deal with so he isn't making me move!

Your room looks good. I'm guessing like most schools your library area will have to be eliminated because of social distancing. Most schools are not allowing classroom libraries. Triangle desks are better social distancing kids.

When you eventually go back, don’t your desks have to be 3 or 6 feet apart? We can’t have any desks touching each other. And rugs/meeting area? They took that area away from us.

Our desks can touch as long as the students aren't sitting in adjacent desks (if that makes sense?). If we go back we will only have half of our students (13), so we can properly distance them in every other desk. Also, we are not allowed to have a carpet meeting space, however, I am still going to create one so a couple of kids can work down there at one time if need be!

@@EarlyEDventures I think the reasoning behind no carpeted areas was not just the social distancing aspect, but also that it will be more difficult to disinfect on a daily basis.

What is up with that huge light fixture down the center of your ceiling? Is it all lights, or is it partly a skylight? I’ve never seen anything like it. If it is a skylight, doesn’t it get super hot at times? TYA.

If you’re only going to have half your class when you go back, can’t they share a desk and have them keep their supplies in a cubbie or drawer system? I have three of those 10 drawer rolling carts from Michaels and they keep all their workbooks etc in them. Just a thought...

Audra Hight I’m not sure if this is the reason for her, but in our district, we are keeping the same number of desks so every kid has their own and no students are sharing surfaces and then also germs. Idk if I explained that very well haha.

Chloe _ that makes sense! I just found out today that my district is starting with the hybrid plan for in person and then parents can also choose remote. I teach K and have never used desks only tables. So that will be fun! I don’t know if I will have a desk for all students or if they will share since they will be in school on different days. Idk, it’s too much!

In what state/district do you teach? We have been told no library, no soft seating, no rugs, etc. Also, island seating, 3 feet apart.

i know she's in california. i am too, and for me, we haven't gotten any guidelines because no one is going back. I know a few charter schools that will be closed until January. So it doesn't matter how she sets it up, chances are, there won't be many kids in it for a few months. At least that's how it's going in the bay area, because our cases are so high.
