Woops, looks like I mixed up November and October. My bad. Yeah, the sign was talking about events a month ahead. Still, at least the bombs dropped while the kids were out of school. Some are really disturbed by the ending. It's messed up. I wanted the horror of what these raiders did to really hit home. Sorry if it was too much.

Last thing I want is to start a flame war, but crap like this is why I never bought the whole "raiders are just trying to survive" argument. Being desperate enough to steal or even murder, I get. But decorating your home with people's chopped up corpses? Oh, yeah, that's absolutely ESSENTIAL for surviving in the wastes. There's nothing sick or sadistic about that AT ALL.

No, you're right; Raiders ARE sick and sadistic. They're what humanity devolves into when it becomes solely concerned with survival. What happens when someone like that keeps surviving? They get so used to killing and taking what they want, that maybe their consciences are utterly eradicated. Then, after a while, they get cocky...and bored. They think they're badasses and that decorating their hovels with the corpses of unfortunate victims sends a message to any future victims and trespassers. Not to mention, all that mindless slaughter and the copious use of chems has destroyed their sanity, so wallowing in filth, decay, and death is no longer a concern of theirs.

My version of the story: The raiders we find in the school kidnapped whole families. They held the kids as hostage to ensure the parents would work. This is why the diggers were allowed explosives, and even weapons. "You turn these on us, and we kill your brats!" Occasionally, even before unlocking the door I would find an ant or two in the halls. The overturned desks, and makeshift bookshelf barricades could have been used by the raiders and diggers to fight off that first wave of ants before locking the door. After the diggers were dead the raiders were left with all these kids. Like you said... they were hungry, crying over the loss of their parents, and in general they were annoying. Maybe the raiders thought of selling these kids, but they would have to sneak past Megaton, risk being caught with dozens of kids, and keep the kids alive... nope... it was just easier to round up the kids in cages, and open fire. The raiders you killed were the same raiders that murdered all of those children. There were so many children because as a parent in the wasteland where else would you take your kids? A school... full of ants, raiders, and death...

I always figured the skeleton kids in cages was a separate event. Those look like some pretty old bones, but that really might be because Bethesda doesn't want to show more recently dead children. I would think there'd be an entry on that raider's terminal mentioning the kids and not wanting to feed them after their parents got eaten. It's apparent that whoever caged them was feeding them as there's tin cans on the floor of the cages. I think that someone was keeping them caged and alive for selling into slavery later or some other also terrible reasons and then died in the wastes gathering supplies or of natural causes. This left the kids in the cages to starve who then had to eat each other to survive as long as possible.Which, would explain the blood splatter. Tearing the dead, dying, or weak captives apart for food would likely make quite the mess. Also, I think this is being referenced in New Vegas's DLC, Honest Hearts. Where The Survivalist overhears children talking about "The Principal" coming to get them. I don't think it's the some of the same kids. DC is so far away from Utah. More of an alternate version of those events where some of the kids escaped.

29:00 This theory totally puts some extreme dose of creepiness to this already dark fallout 3 atmosphere. I love it. Just by hearing it and imagine the scenes makes me sick. But Bethesda really did a great job by displaying the true face of war and human nature without any corrections or sensitive approach. Just replaying FO3 after 15 years and I never appreciated or percieved how gore and scary and cold this game really was back in the days playing it as a kid. Fallout 4 or NV are also very good games but there is something that FO3 has that the newer games are missing and then again, it shows that the real horror and scariest things are people themselves. Raiders are scarier than the monsters. Its mindblowing. Fallout 4 raiders are milk-drinkers compared to these psychos from FO3.

Exactly John. Another reason I like some of the continuing content on all the fallout games. For me the retcon for the Power Armour in fallout 4 was one of the better decisions, as well as the settlement building as not only keeps the world alive but adds more realism to it.I think at some point I need to get Fallout 3 game of the year on PC, only one I have on xbox 360 and with the enhancements via mods on PC I would really love to replay it again.

I always thought that the school was involved in some kind of corporation conspiracy before the bombs dropped. Like, experiments and what not on the kids and town.. I think they were the children of the scav slave workers. I think they were used as leverage to control the workers. I look at this from the aspect of being a father, in that if you enslaved me to work and held my kids captive to keep me working, I would work in trade for keeping them alive. If you killed them, I'd have no reason to comply and would rather risk death in escape or uprising. Once the ants killed the parents... no need to keep the kids. I have no sound reasoning for the desks being used as barricades. Great video.
@griplove

Besides what Lora said Oxhorn brings up a good point about the number of kids. Seems like an awful lot of kids for some scavengers to have. Most parents we meet with kids in most of the games are “settled down”. Farmers, or traders in a settlement... somewhere a little safer. Probably why we seem more kids in rivet city then most other settlements... it’s one of the safest.

All i could do was run and shoot until i ran out of ammo. That was when i first started playing fallout 3. Those ants still creep me out but not as bad as the ones in greyditch.

The Minecraft guys Monthie it is much more depressing than the wastes in Fallout 4 and New Vegas, that's for sure. I'd reckon it's because Washington got carpet-bombed - it's essentially the biggest shithole in what was once the US. Radiation everywhere, probably got picked clean by scavengers along the years which means people get more and more desperate to survive. Radiation and chem abuse means more people out of their minds attacking everyone they see. Remember Three Dog saying that trees are a thing of the past? But there are still a lot of trees and vegetation in general in the Commonwealth, as shown in Fallout 4. There are also plenty of trees in Fallout 2, as well. So Washington is *really* worse off than other states. Basically, it's depressing because it's probably the worst part of the wasteland you could be in. Palpameme 66 the Commonwealth didn't get bombed to shit, though. That's why it doesn't look as fucked as Washington. There was only the one big bomb in the Commonwealth, and you can see what it did to the nearby area - it created the glowing sea. Judging by all the radiation hot spots and bomb craters in Fallout 3, I'd say Washington got bombed much more than once, all over the state. Understandably, it looks much more bleak and deserted than any other game in the series, even 1 and 2.
@stormedcapone

mayhare 97 I think you hit the nail on the head. Washington was target #1. So it would be bombed the hardest. Boston was hit by maybe 5 bombs at most and Vegas was protected by Mr. House.

The reason you'd find so many bottles of buffout in schools would most likely be for the exact reason you speculated. Competition. The reason for them being in the elementary school? Oxhorn, just one question. Why would there be cages in the school? I know they probably could've dragged them across the Wasteland but it seems kind of impractical. The closest place where you'd likely find cells like that is the Germantown Police HQ during the beginning of the apocalypse it would've been to risky to travel that far.

If you take into account the amount of gore and butchered bodies, these raiders were not the trading type, and were probably more psychopathic and hedonistic than your average raider clan hence the bodies, and the dead kids. And I think as far as the term "scab" goes, I think its used as a derogatory term for useless flesh. After all a scab is an ugly piece of flesh that is no longer good or needed and I think that fits with these raiders as they appear to be a really bloodthirsty group that views human life as worth basically nothing, save labor and amusement. They also a had an "easy living" plan with tunneling into the vault so they were obviously not too interested in any commerce or trade, and that is why they talk of only hitting anything that comes or goes from Megaton.

Something to note: the cages we find are BUILT INTO the structure. As grim and far fetched as it sounds. I believe the kids were pre-war, but where “in detention”, the trouble makers had to be punished and the cage was to scare the children. The barricades could have many explanations, they did say there old boss did bite the dust thanks to Simms, who’s to say they didn’t come to the school to stop them.

While this is interesting the connection to the skeletons and the fresh blood make no sense. It takes up to 12 years and in other conditions, up to 40-50 years for a body to be a complete skeleton. Unless the raiders totally stripped the children down to the bone, I'd sooner think its was time after the bombs that made them skeletons. The raiders probably just put them in cages to be dark or to scare other slaves. Just my thought.

I think the kid skeletons were pre-war. Especially the ones in the cage set into the alcove. The bars fit in too perfectly to be post-war. The teachers punished misbehaving kids by locking them in the cages for a bit. Sometimes they'd forget them and leave them over the weekend. Unfortunately they forgot some on the weekend of the bombs dropping. They'd claw at the walls as their skin fell off and they were vaporised by the bomb blasts.
@timwest277
@timwest277 6 жыл бұрын
Dunmeri Secret that's questionable only because if the kids where punished by being locked in a cage and forgotten over the weekend that's kidnapping and that school would of gotten a law suit and shutdown probably long before the bombs fell, I don't think a teacher who would of found compassion for the kids would let this continue. I'm sure some of the parents would of found out by the kids rather if it's them telling their parents or the parents would go on an investigation along side law enforcement personnel for their missing children...unless they were just starting to do this to the kids just before the bombs fell

I could completely see a “children cage” being a punishment. Probably not “left over the weekend” but I could definitely see weekend “detention” sessions that had kids put into cages as a sort of humiliation thing. With the sort of things some of my teachers have gotten away with over the years, plus the sort of things that people back in the days Fallout is emulating could get away with, “bad kid” cages make a scary amount of sense...

Gamerin123 d that's perfectly understandable. People will react to things differently. Mufasa's death never did anything to me, yet several scenes in games which normally don't affect people that much hit me right in the feels. Diseases normally don't spread via different species, at least ones that affect humans. I think a better explanation could be that perhaps the wide spread radiation has essentially killed off most of the bacteria that affects humans, and or has made it to where they no longer can infect humans via mutations. Viruses are another issue, but the lack of humans may have stopped the spread of them.

I think what happened with the cages was that when the bombs fell, the teacher’s first reaction was to take the kids to the punishment cell to keep them safe so that they wouldn’t freak out and make a run for their houses while the teachers went to the nearby vault for help, now by that time either the teachers couldn’t get in the vault and died from radiation exposure before they could get back to the school or they saw the nuke that landed in megaton and either went in the vault immediately or if they couldn’t get in, made a run for it without looking back, leaving the children behind in the cell, thinking the nuke would go off at any second
