Yes! Another Can I Still Dance Challenge!! You still pirouette so beautifully, Claudia. I think you passed. The pirouettes were still lovely even if the landings weren't fabulous. I loved the en dehor one. BEAUTIFUL. XD I love hearing your tips as well. They are so useful, and they've really helped me out.

It's rather random but the "Can I still dance" videos have become my favourite soothing bedtime videos to watch. I've watched them so many times! I had to give up ballet in my late teens (I'm now 53) but these videos just take me back to happy memories of dancing with The Scottish Ballet in their 1976 annual production of The Nutcracker. Back then I was the only working class girl who attended ballet lessons at my first decent, and very middle class, dance school. My father's family thought I had ideas above my station and tried to bribe me with Highland dance classes but classical ballet just spoke to me. I can't explain it but I think it's something all you dancers will understand. So many years ago but I still remember all the terminology, still remember the thrill of my first performance, my first pointe shoes. So, thank you Claudia. Your videos remind me that , despite the years, the dancer inside lives on.

Okay I feel sort of embarrassed for asking this. I used to take ballet lessons when I was a kid. I haven’t danced in years. Ballet has always fascinated me, and I’ve wanted to start taking lessons for a while...I’m 26 and a COMPLETE beginner. What can I do? I mean obviously I’m not going to be able to dance professionally, but honestly I would love to learn the steps and be able to move well! Also, could you do like a ballet for beginners or ballet 101? I don’t know how many people watching are non-dancers, but I know I would love it! I love all your videos!

I would look around your area for studies that offer adult ballet classes...
@contr4dixion
@contr4dixion 5 жыл бұрын
Yup, adult ballet classes are usually for beginners, most studios do offer them because many are like you. Otherwise, you can get a group of friends who are interested and engage with a teacher to start a class at one of the studios near you. Keep dancing!
@esstown
@esstown 5 жыл бұрын
Sign up for a class. Like driving a car - adults learn quicker than 5 year olds - it's a simple matter of knowing what to work on. One of the worst myths on earth is that you have to start ballet as a child. Adult classes are often considered "recreation" though, which can translate into the teacher not helping much apart from giving out combinations to keep doing over and over. The key is to talk with the teacher and let him know (or her, lol) that you wish to learn it correctly, even if this means a lot of corrections. Once the teacher is aware - they will explain it all to you! It's about a year or two to get the basic positions correct - and this is normal. Go for it! The worst thing that can happen is you end up getting into perfect physical condition without ever having to bother with those boring exercise classes! Love to you.
@avimeli
@avimeli 5 жыл бұрын
Find adult classes near you. It's become quite popular so many studios are offering them now. I started three years ago at 28 and am in love. The adult ballet community is so supportive - we all know it's not easy to try new things as an adult and are all rooting for eachother. As the previous commenter said it'll take a while to get the basics down - I've only recently started to feel like I'm actually "dancing" in class, if that makes sense. I was so focussed on perfect position, posture, and technique and now I actually add some character and flow to my movements. It's also a myth that adult beginners can't do pointe, if that interests you. Our ankles and feet are already developed, so once your instructor feels you have the necessary strength and balance you can begin pointe work.

Claudia this is Terrific! Whether or not you are happy with technical execution I think your approach to tackling the movement, having another attempt, pinpointing corrections and not giving up is all part of the challenge that surely inspires students of ballet whatever their level. From me... ' Distinction'🤗

I love you! Claudia, you are a beautiful dancer and your technique might be rusty compared to before.....but it's flawless - perfect form is not far from you. There were no fails apart from your hilarious finishes. I believe you could be a prima. I wish I could see you do all these challenges again....differently......letting your centre float in and out here and there, living and breathing the music out through your port de bras.....fake it when you don't make it and finish beautifully? Even if it's not as fast or perfect? I would so love to see it in that format. You have such a beautiful face and smile - I believe you could own the stage. Thank you!!!

Your fouettes with attitude then pull in were so much better in the correction stage. I'm so glad you go through this process. It just makes you a teacher who dancers can really relate to. You've talked about "sitting in a chair" without collapsing -- which has helped me and others I've coached so much. The center line explanation makes so much sense. One question in coaching a dancer for traveling -- what do you tell the dancer to help them actually travel? Is it actually just a hop forward? Great Work, Claudia. Love your channel and YOU!!

Combo 4: Pass as far as I'm concerned, especially considering you hadn't practiced it! Combo 5: Definitely a pass! I especially love the last one with the extended leg (know you didn't mean to do it but it was lovely anyway)! Combo 6: Those first sets were flawless, save you didn't' quite hit a fifth every time, but then again, who can? I really enjoy these! Please do more!

An exercise I can only recommend you are doing in the pool. Relax your leg muscles in a turned out position, then engage your abs and imagine them being a crane, pulling your leg up. You will soon experience that feeling and if you try afterwards to lift your leg by the quads and change then to the newly learnt technique, quo will feel and see the difference in hight. That's how I got rid of the problem and learnt the correct way. Lying on the floor is also an option. I find it way easier to focus on the technique when I don't have to pull the whole weight of the leg. Once experienced, you can start to add more and more weight to it.
@justme9818

Random tip but it works: stretch out your abdominal muscles. Abdominal tension creates tension in the quads. This creates the gripping that's so hard not-to-do.
