I am so proud of Clay for being vulnerable and talking about anxiety. There is so much stigma around the subject. It needs to be talked about more. Growing up I was bullied and picked on for different things. I suffered from severe anxiety and panic attacks for at least 10 years before I was finally bold enough to say "help." I got put on gabapentin for the panic attacks. It made a world of difference. When i was 22 I read a book called "Feelings Buried Alive Never Die" and that book helped me to see the people who were the root causes of my panic attacks and to see the situations in a different light. I was able to finally deal with it realistically and then I didn't need the medication anymore. In my late 20s I was able to come off of it and I was totally fine. My situation is similar to Clays situation. He was only on Paxil for about a year or so and then he was able to come off it. I know it doesn't work this way for everyone, but I'm glad it worked this way for Clay and I. Sometimes the medication is just needed to help get you over a hump. Some people need it permanently because of a chemical imbalance in their brain. There should be no shame in being on anti-anxiety medication.
