No cotton cloth is not necessary the flour will be thick ie in correct position of urud and rice

This idli cooker looks fancy. Cooking in clay cooker can be healthy. It is expensive. It can be broken easily. We have to dish wash ourselves, since we paid! Expensive?

The issue is not with the idly it's with the vessel. It's very flat instead so the idlies are looking like mini oothapam. It should be little concave.

The most common reason for yellow idlis is lack of fermentation. ... If the batter ferments well, the resulting idlis will be white in color. Another possible reason could be the quality of Urad dal. If older stock, the idlis can be yellow.

I have recently watch somewhere that clay leach lead which is again very harmful to our body... I m searching for healthy cookware since so long... I m using surgical steel pots and pans which r very heavy and costly too... Is clay safe to use?

Vipin Verma I guess the problem lies with the plate too, it should be concave but it is flat so, the bottom of the idli is prone to be flat even with the right batter!
