Clayton Thomas on Bullies & Retirement + Katherine Brodsky on the Silenced Majority

Adam Carolla

4 ай бұрын

Comedian Clayton Thomas shares a few stories from his early days working at McDonald’s. He and Adam compare school bus stories and share some fight stories. Adam reveals an Oscar joke he wrote that made it into the broadcast and shares a few more Oscar jokes that weren’t used.
Chris reports news stories on Ben Shapiro saying no U.S. citizens should be retiring at age 65, a Houston car meetup banning modern muscle cars, AirBnB banning indoor cameras, and a Texas mom arrested for mixing a drink that sent a kid to the hospital.
Next, author Katherin Brodsky joins to talk about her new book, No Apologies. She talks about her research of those subjected to public harassment and abuse for speaking against the vocal minority. She and Adam discuss ways to remedy these culture wars and they question if the arguments are genuine.

People dont understand that the prices of things are never going back down. This inflation is deeper than we think. Those buying groceries are well aware that the real inflation is much over 10%. The increments dont match our income, yet certain investors still earn over $365,000 in stocks and assets. Wish I could accomplish that.

Wow you guys have been putting out the content these past couple months. I appreciate all the hard work and new episodes. 1:02:38 I love that Adam holds Chris accountable for his little mess up because Chris's lack of detail makes Adam look less polished. And Chris acts like Adam is making a big deal out of nothing rather than saying yes or sorry or being otherwise accountable and just thinks Adam is being unreasonable. This shows why quality is so hard to achieve.

53min Ben talking about retirement age. Do you know any brick layers, mechanics, roofers, etc that old? I don't think Ben or his parents have ever had a manual labor job for 30 plus years. . . It's hard on your body. My Dad retired from a manual labor job at 58 it's been over 10 years now and he's glad that he did. Gets to spend time with his grandchildren or whatever. He was smart with his money and only spent when necessary. We didn't go on vacation or anything crazy but always had enough and a little more. He had been working since he was 12 and never had anything given to him. Everything he has he worked for. I guess my dad is different than most people because I have seen lots of people retire and then die within a year. They sit around and drink themselves to death. Other countries have earlier retirement than we do and there standard of living is better. I think Ben should go do roofing for the next 30 years and then tell me that he doesn't want to retire. . . .

I legitimately believe every teen should be required to work in a fast food restaurant for at least 6 months. It will change your perspective of how difficult those jobs are. I worked at Taco Bell for 6 months (all positions) and Subway for a summer while in high school. 😂 My kids all have bougie first jobs ... but working fast-food for minimum wage should be mandatory in high school for some type of credit hours.
@MOE-db8oc
@MOE-db8oc 4 ай бұрын
Teenagers should be the ones working those jobs and then move on. Unfortunately, this is now becoming a job for adults and semiretired folks who complain they need to make a living wage at a job for kids. Now the kids coming up do not learn what a rough job is cause all the ‘adults’ have these jobs locked up.

@johnbettmann6888 We live in a very affluent area in S Florida. Bougie jobs that my kids have are: dog sitting, dog walking, babysitter, high-end cafe barrista, high-end upholstery cleaner, and camp counselor. My kids make more in a day (than many adults) and never break a sweat or stress over manning multiple positions because someone didn't show up for their shift. Just to give you an idea of where we live ... my kids met Keven James while at the beach the other day.

SS wouldn't be going bankrupt if the government had made some adjustments to the amount withheld, and also kept their greedy fingers out of the funds over the decades. Also, allowing many grifters to collect Social Security disability needs to be addressed as well. Many people that work at physically demanding jobs certainly do deserve to retire at a reasonable age, after putting in 40 plus years of hard labor.

Last big dog I had I fed Eukanuba, Science Diet or similar kibble. Never feed canned dog food unless you want to deal with disgusting poop. Kibble results in turds that will dry up hard in 24 hours and you can literally pick them up by hand. Cheaper and healthier for the dog as well.

Senior citizens might lose the ability to do heavy duty work jobs. And it also becomes hard to do - a lot of those number crunching accounting office jobs. So, ideally employers need to create and place older workers into advisory positions. Working in quality control positions. HR roles where they work to help employees struggling on the job, or struggling to work with other employees. Advising the business on community giveback and volunteer work. Roles for volunteer and charity events. The wisdom they have, can help smooth out certain problems that younger employees in leadership roles often don't handle well.

Let me tell you about the dog food kibble industry; it's not good. Not even the expensive kind. Dogs evolved for millenia just eating scraps from humans for suddenly being fed kibble that is nothing more than byproduct factory waste reporpused. Throw a handful of kibble outside and notice how a month later it's still sitting out there; the mice don't want it, the birds don't want it, not even the bugs want it. Now all of the sudden all dogs have chronic allergies, skin issues, and their lifespan is somewhere in the 6-12 year range instead of 12-18. Put your dog on human grade food and watch everything about it improve; energy, mood, sleep, allergies, lifespan. Don't have to be fancy food either; like I said, they evolved eating scraps left over from humans for milenia. I give mine rottisserie chicken, green beans, a little bit of plain yogurt, a little bit of pumpkin, a little bit of coconut oil. I supplement with turmeric, L-Canitine, fiber powder, and a dog multi-v. My vet approves but I would do it anyway. My dog was aging and growing lumps at age 6. After trying everything to stop the growth of the lumps, I decided to give human grade food a try and wow, it made all the difference. It's not expensive either. Walmart rottisery chickens are $7 in my town, $4 if they're on sale and you can freeze them. The rest of the ingredients I listed are super cheap in the store brand. Go on an dump a handful of kibble outside and watch it still be there a month later; not even the ants want it.
