I rented a Rug Doctor carpet cleaning machine. in 3 hours, we cleaned the Dining room, Entry way and family room. We definitely noticed an improvement to our carpets, see for yourself with a comparison at the end of the video. I'll show you the steps and techniques to get your carpets looking new or at least better.
Tools and Items needed, a carpet cleaning vacuum, a regular dry vacuum, a bucket or gallon jug, a measuring cup, and carpet cleaning solution.

Thank you. There is an upholstery attachment that may work on stairs. Some places rent a carpet cleaner specifically for stairs. We don’t have stairs so I have no idea how well they work.

I just rented the attachment with it. It works great, and it is long enough that I didn’t have to carry it down the stairs to continue using it.

Thanks for the video, great explanation. How much of an effort it is really per room? I need to get carpets cleaned for 3 bedrooms on the upper level, and the entire basement of around 800 sq ft, and 4 flights of stairs that are carpeted. I'm thinking one day should be enough?
@BruBuilds
@BruBuilds 11 ай бұрын
You should be able to do that in one full day, I rented it for 4 hours and cleaned 2 rooms and an entry way. Stairs are probable time consuming. Also, if you have to move furniture around to do each room that will wear you out. Have some help and make sure to pre-vacuum.

Would it work on a rug with a raised pattern, about 1/4 inch thick? Or would the pattern interfere with the suction? The worst dirt is in the gaps between the pattern.
@BruBuilds
@BruBuilds 2 ай бұрын
I’ve watch other videos where they cleaned rugs, but I personally don’t have any experience with cleaning a thick rug. Most pro carpet cleaners complain that these type of units don’t have very good suction power. I imagine it may struggle with a raised pattern. If you have regular carpets to clean as well it may be worth a try.

Was the carpet wet after you finished? if so how long did it take for it to get dried
@BruBuilds
@BruBuilds Жыл бұрын
Yes, the carpet is damp and did take a few hours to dry. We left it to dry overnight. I think that is why they recommend just doing one pass. We put some fans on some of the very wet spots to help with drying.

how many years hadd it been since you last cleaned them. doesn't look too bad. I never had our carpet cleaned, except professionally when we moved in. we dont wear shoes into the house, leaving it at the entry area upon arrival. however i know dust and grime gets into our tile floors. I plan to rent these too. it's fast and so worth it. how many passes did you do per room. and how many rooms did 1 solution last? i guess it depends on how dirty the carpet is also. Are there some greener chemicals to use. And finally, how dry is the carpet after you're done? When we had ours professionally done, our carpet was sooo damp , we had to stay at a hotel for 1-2 nights. Thanks for sharing.
@BruBuilds
@BruBuilds 5 ай бұрын
@SeekerFitness It had been well over 5 years. There are just some places that start to show the dirt over time. I'll think I do mine again this spring...Maybe. I did 2-3 passes on the high traffic areas, pretty much cleaned until the solution rain out. I'm guessing you could clean 800-1000 sq ft with one pass to a bottle of the cleaning solution. I would ask where you rent it about an environmentally friendly cleaning solution. The main complaint I hear about rental machines is they leave the carpet wet. With mine, most of it dried to the touch in a few hours, but the places that I worked a few times required a fan to help it dry overnight. You want to move the vacuum slowly to pick back up as much water as possible. Low humidity and warmer temperatures will help with the drying time. Have fun cleaning!

I spent two days looking at videos all day to make informed decisions and also went out to Home Depot. I was looking at the floor cleaners the eagle brand doesn’t even wanna know if the eagle brand floor cleaners can go on carpet…. The kid at Home Depot wasn’t sure. Because if it does I’m thinking of renting the steamer first to do my tile floors in the dining room living room and kitchen (original owners thought it was cute to have white tile floors with gray pattern) . Then the subsequent week I plan to rent the carpet cleaner to do the rooms. Since we haven’t had our carpets cleaned for a while would doing the steam be better to get it prepped and cleaner before we run it through a carpet cleaner?
@BruBuilds

I'm not sure what would happen if you tried steaming you carpets with one of those machines. I guess if you rent one you could try a little test section and see how it works.

@BruBuilds
@BruBuilds Жыл бұрын
I'm sure it would help some, but probable depends on how bad of a dog smell. We haven't had a dog for a while. I've heard some people spray watered down cleaning solution on first with a garden sprayer, let it soak in some, then just use warm water with the Rug Doctor. That might work better for odors.

You tilt it back to move it forward than pull back and drag it across the carpet to clean. One pass to spray the water then another pass or two to suck up the water. If you are wanting to clean a large area, you will start to feel it physically. Bissell (Big Green) makes one that you can rent that you don't have to tilt back to move it forward, but I haven't used one. I'll rent one of those next time I need to clean my carpets (which is soon) and see how it compares. Lowes rents the Bissell and Home Depot rents the Rug Doctor.
