My best tip for cleaning while you’re not feeling good is to do one thing at the time. That way you don’t get that overwhelmed feeling. I make a list with small goals. One thing can be ”vacuum the floor” or it can be as small as ”move one dirty plate to the kitchen”. One thing I also recommend is to make it easier for you to clean. You can declutter your room or house when you feel better. That way you don’t have as much stuff to move around and clean. Also, your room or apartment doesn’t need to look like pinterest so make some adjustments to your living area. One thing you can do to make it easier to keep the trash and clothes of the floor (trash being my huge problem) is to make sure you have a place for it to go. Put a big garbage in your room and hang it on the back of your door or put it in your room where you can see it all the time. Do the same for clothes. Well yes you will have two large garbage bags in your room and it isn’t esthetically pleasing but if it helps you keep your room clean while having an episode of depression who really cares? Also it makes it easier for your family to help you throw the trash out if it’s collected in one place atleast. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when having an episode of depression. You have people that love you that will be happy to help. Maybe your mother or another family member (or take turns) can go into your room every day to collect dishes and trash? Find the systems that work for you ❤️ I loved the video 🙂❤️

I actually have the opposite. I’ve been struggling with depression since I was 17, I’m 30 now and cleaning and tidying always calmed me down even if I was at my worst. anyways good job to you! A clean home can really make you feel better ♥️

@@jessalynnwatson2634 I thought that too (I'm 35 now). I think that might've been my mistake: thinking that everything will just turn out fine when you get older. Realizing later on that's not automatically the case hurt and made things even worse I think. My advice to my younger self and you would be: try and get to know yourself. Just analyze yourself, what triggers you? What makes you feel good? What do you think you need in the future to feel good (all sorts of things, for example I realized I NEED a tidy and clean home without clutter to be able to breathe properly, so I'm working on that)? Try and work with that, bit by bit. I do honestly believe that'll help you feel better at that age - I've spent last year analyzing things A LOT and along with giving myself time and not pressuring myself into being perfect really helps me feel much better now. I honestly think it would've helped doing that years ago, so after reading your comment I felt I needed to tell you this. You can do this ❤️ take care!

I met depression in my twenties. I'd always cover mirrors. I never wanted to look at myself. I could tell when I was coming out of my phase when I wanted to clean and rearrange something. I had to constantly say "I am capable," out loud in between breaks in order to carry on.

I can't explain how nice it is for you to post a video like this. I have ADHD n that comes with co-morbidities and I also have anxiety and depression. Had anxiety since kindergarten and depression since elementary school. I've been defined by my messy room, my drink cups that have bacteria growing them, my unwashed clothes and everything. Social media is not a mental health advocate when it comes to things you cant romanticise, such as being unhygienic during really bad episodes. This is really comforting. I've never heard someone say such kind things and tell me that my struggles do not define me.

That was such a gentle conversation about depression. Thank you so much for the advice to imagine myself cleaning a friend’s room, and to give that care and kindness to myself. I also appreciated the gentle and nonjudgmental reminder that depression and ADD and untidiness come and go. I do tend to feel discouraged when my room gets messy again, but because I’m an artist, it’s also a sign that I am using my space for creativity, which is also another way of being kind to myself when I’m experiencing depression. Thank you thank you. Sending you much appreciation.

I've been called lazy my entire life and i believed it for a long time but i knew there was something more wrong with me and i reached out and got diagnosed a year ago. i really love this video and it makes me so happy to know im not the only one who deals with this.

i've been dealing with anxiety for the past couple of years now, but recently i was diagnosed with major depressive disorder. my mom has been the most helpful, but my dad on the other hand doesn't really understand anxiety and depression. he thinks that buying me things will automatically solve everything. it has been very difficult talking to him about it because no matter how much i try to explain it, he still doesn't get it. my room has been a mess for a couple of weeks now. the mess keeps growing and growing, and no matter how many times i've tried cleaning it, i can never get it done. thank you for this. i'm going to keep trying to have at least one thing in my life organzied. i really appreciate this video and thank you for sharing your vulnerability with us. i am going to clean and organize my room now, before rats decide to start living with me.

When I was younger I would never understand how people let their rooms get so messy or how some people neglect themselves but as I got older I finally understood why people do that. Lately I can barely stand let alone clean or self care . The last thing on my mind was on the clean state of my room or my well being. I can hardly stand to go shower and when I do finally go shower I feel like I'm gonna break down. Now that I experience these things daily I get so heated when people call others going through the same experiences lazy. I'm so proud of everyone who got up today, even if you didn't do anything I'm proud

Everything you said was so spot on. No one understands. I suffer from quite a few different mental health issues. Depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, etc and my bedroom is soooooo bad. Actually my whole house is. But I just want to give you a hug bc just listening to you talk about it made me feel so much better. That I'm not alone and I'm not the only one who struggles this way. Thank you so much!

I'm Bipolar 2 and cycle. Even on medicine. I always clean up, but then it gets right back to where it was because I get so down again. I'm tired of that. So, I'm finally cleaning and throwing things away as I clean. I am almost 30 yrs old and embarrassed to have people over. It hurts. I think I cried the entire time watching your video. Thank you for being so open about this. People see you on the outside and see things that are on the external part of you (like a messy place) and don't realize that it is a reflection of your mindset. I would never CHOOSE to have a messy place. I would never choose to barely be able to get out of bed. I'm actually a very hygienic person and when I do clean, it borders on OCD organization. Thank you so much for recording this.

I completely feel this. Especially when you said this is not what you would class as a bad mess because I wouldn't either. For me that's okay if you can see the floor and haven't got dirty pots in there. I also clean at night. It's something about the quiet and darkness that is more calming and waking up the next day to a tidy room is so nice. I am sometimes cleaning at 1/3 am!! Your information is so helpful and insightful :)

You did a good job on your video. And, I'm glad you were feeling better and got your room clean. I also like cleaning at night; I've found that cleaning in the morning is good for me, too. When I record for a video, that also motivates me to clean.

Feels good to know I’m not alone in what I go Through, THANK YOU for being so vulnerable and authentic feels nice. You’re very right I’m sticking with that things get better and they get worse just have to continue on and not give up. You were spot on with the “if I dont have the will to live or get out of bed why would I want to clean” basically that so true at times. But yes we deserve a clean space and a serene mind.❤️

Thank you for sharing this video and your vulnerability. I am 37 and my mom still doesn't understand the severity of depression episodes and nit picks my house. I recently have learned though that these are episodes related to my depression. Hugs

Well done love! The struggles are so raw and real. Just getting out of bed can take everything out of you. I have been suffering with clinical depression and anxiety since the age of 8. I am now 36. Thank you for making and sharing this video. When you said to make it fun, that's what helps to get me motivated. I watch a lot of cleaning motivation videos and your advice to record yourself and not to even post it but to keep it for yourself is such a great idea! You really spoke to me on many different levels. Every day you wake up and even just getting out of bed shows a lot strength. Keep your chin up love and do what's best for you and whatever makes you feel good or happy, do it! Even if it does mean staying in bed. Be well

the last time i really deep cleaned my room was in the 2 weeks of march 2020 where we had no school. I threw away or donated 5 large garbage bags of things and i completely rearranged my room. I hate to say that it’s been almost 3 years since i’ve done that but it’s true. i’ve been cleaning my room and so far i have half a bag of garbage. my depression is undiagnosed, but it’s real. it sucks. getting the motivation to clean my room when i’ve felt mentally numb for months is very hard. the voiceover on this video gives me a spark to clean my room. thank you. i am currently folding my laundry.

Just came across your video. No judgement here, just keep moving through the bout of depression. I too when younger went through it and as a woman in my 50’s I still have moments but I fight through and keeping busy does help. People who also have clean rooms also deal with depression, some may not mention it. But it does lift your mood when you do walk into your clean room. It’s like it’s giving you a hug saying everything will be alright just breathe. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
