Sitting in the back of her shop for years, let's see if we can get this Consew 226 cleaned and working again. She doesn't even remember why they stopped using it. This is part 1 and will be showing the cleaning process for the machine.

I have just purchased a pristine, full working order, Singer 66k, with bobbins, standard foot, zipper foot, tread cutter and the manual in a charity shop for £40... it's gorgeous!!

We have a Consew 225 that my husband got from a coworker (it belonged to her mom). It sat in her garage for years, unused, and we haven’t been able to get it to work correctly. I’m determined to get this thing fixed up because I have things I want to make that will be beyond what my Janome HD 5000 can handle. It looks similar to this so hopefully your videos will help me find the right resources to get it running, because there is no sewing machine repair place nearby who handles these.

Just got a couple of Singer 111W151 in poor shape. Got them cleaned up and running nice. One is a 1941 and the other a '55. 40 bucks for the pair.

Nice! -- QUESTION -- If I wanted Zig Zag stitching, can I get it with the Consew 206RB-1? If not, what is the most classic Consew that would offer that without going to a new one?

I have a new Singer machine and it isn't sewing at all for some reason and I can't find anything to explain why it isn't sewing the material even though I think that both the upper and lower thread was put in correctly. I also have an old sewing machine which belonged to my grandmother and hasn't been used since she last made quilts on it. One day I want to get it out and get it cleaned and see about finding parts needed to begin using it again. I am now retired and have the time to work on it when not working in the yard mowing or cleaning inside the house.

i have a consew 105 straight stitch clutch motor machine, bought from an estate sale last year, no manual. it belonged to the small town seamstress. i imagine its seen a ton of use in its lifetime. i cant find anything online that explains this machine, only the 206 or 226 which are completely different,and walking foot machines. I found the needle to be sideways and once i turned it, it sewed fine, but yesterday i was sewing a very light cotton project for 10 minutes and it suddenly stopped now the bobbin thread bunches up on the bottom within 3 stitches and jams it up. ive looked and dont see any thread around the bobbin case, nor have i messed with the tensions, its threaded correctly. im at a loss here. im going to try to take the case and basket apart and see if theres maybe a piece of thread caught in behind.

A couple of questions. Is this your profession, and if so, how did you learn this trade? And, do you think SMR is still a good trade to get into, and aside from your vids, what would be a good way to learn to do repairs, order parts and whatever else goes into the biz. Picked up a few old machines in the past, cleaned and oiled them and they turned out okay. But I'm sure there's alot to learn beyond that. Any advice you could offer would be appreciated! Thanks!!

Is that Krudd Kutter that you used to clean off old oil? Or another chemical ? Can that be used in the oil pan?

Hi. I am from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. I just bought a Toyota 9800 and a guy who has one and a lady who has one, too, are having difficulty in finding the bobbin case for their sewing machines in Brasil. (I still haven't received mine and hope the bobbin case is alright.) Do you happen to know if there is a brand new model with the same bobbin case? Do you think It is not a good idea to buy an old sewing machine? (The current machines are plastic, and made in China!) Also, another lady has a Bernina and can't find the bobbin case for that one either. (Brasil, you know...) Thanks in advance.

Try aliexpress for bobbins and bobbin cases, you might get lucky. I got a whole bunch of relatively rare bobbins for my bernina, for under the price of a single one on ebay. Some of them have sharp edges but even if you throw those out, the amount of good ones is still a great deal for the money. At least worth a try. Personally I am not of the opinion that modern machines are bad, or even that plastic is bad. I have worked on other types of machines, where the metal was of such low quality and so poorly poured, that the metal could literally be snapped in your hands. If you would have tried that with similar thickness ABS you would never be able to. The outside of the machine (for domestic machines) does not carry any loads anyways. Modern construction is to have a strong skeleton frame, but the outside being plastic. In that sense, the outside does not matter at all. You also have to take into account that the vintage domestic machines costed upwards of 2, 3x monthly wage, whilst a modern sewing machine can be had for as little as 1/10th a monthly wage whilst giving similar performance. If you spend the same amount of money on a modern machine, you will also get a super sturdily build metal one if you want.
