If the orbs aren’t flying around on the bios screen it means the CMOS battery is dead and the clock isn’t set.
@KatsuyaTheFuuk
@KatsuyaTheFuuk 2 жыл бұрын
Now that I'm done, two things to mention. One, the blue disc games are supposed to sound a lot louder than other games, so yeah even that is perfectly normal. That PS2 is perfect. Second, the reason why nothing was moving in the Bios is because the clock needed to be reset, as it's probably chilling thinking it's still 2000. Doesn't even have to be a dead battery, that just happens sometimes. Nothing major. $13 is not bad at all!

7:36 yeah this is definitely a later revision model. Most of the original models including my main one have the power/eject button attached to the top case with a ribbon cable that's fairly easy to yank out by accident. I accidentally did to one of my other PS2s I have. (Come to think of it I think your original video was like that as well) I noticed one of the ports on the front were missing too so that's a more obvious clue that it's a later revision

I've been cleaning some ps2 consoles myself lately and a common issue I'm encountering is the disc drive grinding when opening or not opening at all. Messing with that mechanism can really be a chore but a quick and dirty fix is just loosening up the screws that hold the tray in place a little bit and most of the time that fixes it for me. Regarding the laser, sometimes it's just worn out and very old to a point where it will load up games but it will be very slow and laggy and glitch out the game. GTA games are actually the perfect games to benchmark a ps2 laser as there is a lot of data streaming going on in those games. Sometimes you'll notice buildings not loading in properly and stuff like that.

Put some white lithium grease on the teeth of the gears for your disk drive. That should help the grinding noise as well as the difficulty opening the disk drive.

My PS2 is a 30001. It is the launch model. The heat sink is different and has two main boards soldered together by 5 pins. You have to desolder them to separate the 2 boards and you also have to desolder the pins in order to change the cmos battery. I wish I had this model in the video. But mine still works and love playing games off the hard drive with free Mcboot.

Hi Adam! For the permanent marker on the modem i would suggest using "isopropyl alcohol". I use it all the time on marker and it gets rid of it realy good without acting up with the black from the plastic - but be aware with stickers and paint! It will clean it off too. Have a nice day!

So satisfying to see a restoration like that - when I used to work at People Play Games that was the best part of the job - just cleaning video games all day. I would suggest Simple Green instead of pledge since simple green costs like 10 bucks for a jug and you just dilute it into a spray bottle. Cleans all the nerd grime off and doesn't leave a residue. Kind of makes me want to go to a thrift store and get some stuff just to clean it lol.

@@curtis8516 I bought a 20W/mK for my launch PS3. The thermal pads were $24.00 for a 100mm square. With the PS2 I would think a cheaper pad would be fine. The main idea is to get a pad as thick as the original one is. Now all these consoles were manufactured in countries that use the metric system so all screws, pads will be in millimeters. I have the thickness wrote down at home. I would think a cheaper thermal pad would work fine. I do not see the PS2 producing a lot of heat. The fan is to cool the power supply as well as the die sets since Sony had problems with heat in the launch PS1.

There’s another potential option for cleaning off permanent marker that worked on my SNES carts. Use dry erase markers that are made for white boards. Just cover the area with any colour of dry erase marker, then wipe it away with a cloth or tissue. It might take a few tries, but it worked for me.

I'd suggest using isopropyl alcohol instead of Magic Eraser. ME is basically sandpaper, and can erase the surface of plastic. I see it on quite a lot of cartridges. IPA will take that silver ink off very easily.

I scored my PS2 from Gamestop somewhere around 2009-2010, the laser lens was dirty, and that was about all that was wrong with it, other than a little dust cleaning, then did the ol' quick swap DVD trick to install Free McBoot, which allowed me to put in a small IDE (2.5") 120 GB HDD I had lying around with an adapter and the broadband adapter. One of these days I need to hook it up and play with it again, though I'm sure my PC can emulate it better today.

a lot of PAL and Japanese versions of this console the power and eject buttons are mounted to the top shell and connected with a ribbon cable so you have to be careful when taking the lid off to not tear the cable. Also paints easier to get off with a Qtip and some surgical spirit, the magic erasers can really dull off the plastic if you're not careful but are great for taking off scuffs or dirt ground into texture like on top of a nes.

I have two modchipped PStwo consoles, but they're both slims. One is a SCPH-75001 model, which I use more, but the other is an earlier SCPH-70012, which is the slim revision that has the same chipset as the phats, so there aren't any compatibility issues with the few PS1 & PS2 games that are affected. I have opened up my SNES to replace the shell with the clear one I ordered from Retro Game Restore, but when I put it back together, the fit is either too loose (the Reset switch can't reach the button on the main board so it cannot reset) or too tight (the Reset switch is constantly resting on the button, so it's always "resetting")

My Xbox One X Hdmi port went out a few weeks ago. Visiting my brother, he had a fat ps2 just sitting. He gives it to me because he says he never plays it anymore and with 10 mint condition ps2 games. A year before that, I started collecting ps2 games because "nostalgia" of course... even though I didn't own a Ps2. So I get home and realize its a little dusty... but no worries I clean it up a little bit. 😁 After hooking it up, I realize I had forgotten the controller!! So, pretty much since then I bought about 30 of my favorite Ps2 games, a Reto Fighters Defender wireless controller, a new electronic tool kit, and a few other things I might need. I know the system works and plays, but I havn't took apart a Ps2 in years. Coming from a guy who used to build Pc computers... I just wanted to take everything apart and have it all cleaned before I started playing to make me feel better. My dad growing up was an electronic guy, he loved and still loves gaming. I was the kid that had a 3D0 system too. Epic game console at the time...Anyways, I've watched several videos on different Ps2 models just to remind myself for an easy and satisfying take apart and clean.
