Jewelry makers use this machine with a pickling solution of various strengths to remove the oxides from the heating process. Fountain pen cleaning uses an ammonia solution to remove dried ink from pen parts. The cleaning solution matters on how aggressive you wish the oxidation to be removed.

I have used an ultrasonic cleaner for years. Two tips: 1. Do not overload it wich you did in this video. You will get much better results with fewer items. 2. Do not use warm water when cleaning plastics with any sort of print on them. The print is likely to come loose (cd’s for example). In the big pro models of ultrasonic cleaners you can clean guns and motorparts which is cool.

To clean your Sterling silver, go to your auto parts store and get a can of Nevr-Dull from the polish isle, or prolly avail on Amazon by now. Should be around $10. Wear gloves, just to keep the black from the silver off your hands. The chemical will not hurt you unless you have an open cut. The chemical is soaked into a cotton wadding. It will clean, polish and leave a protective coating on the silver. I used it when I had my Antique Shop. Makes a big difference in the price you can get for your items.

But you got a Roman coin that I seen you have a George II it looks like and that's British money and you had a bag seal that was the one that had the whole going through the middle But go up there and let them tell you what it is definitely.

Jack, if you want to stabilize the rust on that pistol, you could build a very efficient (and Cheap) electrolysis tank with a plastic bucket, some 12 gauge wire, a piece of rebar and a spool of masonry wire. that and some Arm & Hammer washing soda in water for an hour and the rust would be gone. Then just put some oil on it to keep the rust away and it'll last forever. There's a lot of electrolysis tank videos on KZfaq.

We were always told to leave coins soaking in Coke overnight to clean them, then rinse off. Makes me wonder how the machine would work with Coke instead. I wouldn't like to try it with collector coins though.
@SwedishCandyPirate
@SwedishCandyPirate 4 жыл бұрын
sprocketrocket07 No, do not do this! The machine generates heat when used and you could end up with a sticky goo that would be rather cumbersome to clean off (from the machine).

@@SwedishCandyPirate I see. I didnt think Coke would congeal. Just cold, Straight in a cup overnight is what i was told to do.
@SwedishCandyPirate
@SwedishCandyPirate 4 жыл бұрын
@@JediJan Cold coke is fine (as long as it's not too long of a time). The acid in the coke should make quick work of some of the grime on those coins. It's the heat that generates when the machine works that I'm worried about. That and the movement. As you could see in the video the water rippled when the machine was on (the movement of the water is also what generates heat). My train of thought is that the movement together with the heat will make the sugar in the coke to become sticky. Enough to make a mess.

RINSE everything with water when you're done. Don't mix different metals. I've used an ultrasonic unit with Windex for years on my gold and diamonds. They shine like new after they've dulled from soap and hand lotion. More than one jeweler recommended Windex, but not on soft stones. My ultrasonic is old and has little handle that folds down to help lift the basket.

You can bring out the copper coin details by colouring in the coin with a soft graphite pencil and then buffing with absorbent paper. It looks like you have a King George penny there and some lead bag seals. Don't do this to valuable coins though. You can clean silver coins by soaking in weak acid like lemon juice and then wrapping in aluminium foil. You will notice a sulphur smell which indicates the reaction with the foil.

Most of the coins are Spanish, silver ones are 5 pesetas but can't see the date. Looks like the smaller copper coin is a hammered coin. The one that looks like a bent nail was enameled and gold gilded (careful, the ultrasonic cleaner will make the gold and enamel come off) and was probably from a saddle or the like. The lead objects with holes through them are bag seals that were used for seed, flour, manure, etc. One with the anchor looks very old and finally the bigger item looks to be an heraldic symbol, also probably a horse mount.
