Sorry everyone, no shelling video today! The weather and tides have been pretty so-so during the school holidays, so I put this together instead. The school holidays are over now, so I'll be back to shelling next time. Thank you so much for watching something different today!
Video link to finding the coral: • Finding Seashells at B...
Something to remember if you want to try this yourself: bleach might not be suitable for the type of coral you have. It worked well on this one, but made it much more brittle/fragile; though I didn't worry about it because it is so abundant at the beach I got it from... I could easily have gotten more if this turned out poorly, but I'm glad it didn't!
Also remember: Don't get bleach on your skin! Always wear gloves, and keep it away from your eyes, mouth, and sensitive skin. Dispose of it down a sewage drawn (not freshwater drains).

G'day Jan 👋🏻💖 Wait, what are you trying 🤣? Do you have coral to bleach too? Just a disclaimer, I have no idea how it will work for other types of coral... it also made this stuff pretty brittle and fragile, but I didn't mind because it's so abundant at that beach 🏖️ so I could get a bunch more of I broke it. Anyway, it did turn out to be a very nice display piece in the end 😁 I don't know if you saw your picture frame at the end of the video, but I put a nice picture of me and my Dad inside. Thank you so much for it, and for watching this little update video today 🥰

G'day Claudia 👋🏻🏖️ Ohh I didn't really realise that anyone was still waiting for this 🤣 I figured people only said that in passing a few weeks ago! I'm absolutely thrilled that you enjoyed seeing the result, it certainly turned out to be a wonderful display piece. Thank you so much for watching the little video this time 🥰

Hi Maddie, Really nice how you displayed the coral. Salad of the sea nice. Not to hard to clean. Cooler weather here. I hate hot weather. You take care now. XXOO TRUDY PS I would bring sand back from ocean for the pet hermit crabs.

G'day Trudy 👋🏻💖 The display turned out better than I hoped, well, at least I though so 😁 I'm not sure what I'll do when it gets dusty... I think dust would really stick onto this porous kind of coral; especially in humid weather. Well, that's a problem for future me to think about 😅 Oh nice Trudy, I'm glad the weather is finally cooling down over there! You take care of yourself as well; enjoy that wonderful cool air. Thank you so much for watching the little update today 🥰

G'day Toni 👋🏻💖 Just a short video today, but I'm glad you came to watch and enjoy it ☺️ Thank you so much for watching something so different today 🥰 The process to bleach it was pretty easy, though I wonder how much different it would be for different types of coral?? Anyway, I think this one turned out pretty nice 🙂 Again, thank you Toni ❤️

G'day Cindy 👋🏻🏖️ The coral turned out looking even better than I thought!! I think that other kinds of coral might need different bleaching times... be careful though, it makes the coral very brittle and fragile. If you try this: do it on a small piece first to test it. Thank you so, so much for watching something different today 🥰

Hi Maddie, you have been busy. I love the way you displayed it after furtively acquiring some sand 😂. Very nice display on the unit with the shells. If you have any glass vases, do the same with the sand in the bottom and display more coral. I think you are onto something there. ❤

G'day Alison 👋🏻💖 Haha, I don't know if I've been busy enough: I have a whole bucket full of shells that I haven't cleaned yet! But I have been busy enough to get this done 😉 haha, the sand was the best part 😆 wasn't it? I actually don't have any glass vases; we've never been a vase-using family here 😅 I might have already tipped the sand in the garden... and the left over coral too... haha, it all goes back to nature! Thank you so much for watching something so different than usual today 🥰

Hi Maddie That was an interesting video and the outcome was amazing. Have you thought about trying to colour some with maybe a week food colouring solution. I don’t know but it was just a thought as I can remember seeing coloured coral mounted on a plaster base in souvenir shops.

G'day Aussie Dirt Digger 👋🏻💖 The outcome was really lovely, I'm so glad I could turn this coral into a nice display 🤩 You know, someone else mentioned dying it too... White suits me and the home the best, but if my house did have a colour theme (other than plain white) I would totally try giving it a colour! Maybe a pastel pink would be nice? What colour would you make it? Once again, thank you so, so much for checking out such a different type of video today 🥰

I would probably lean towards different shades of reds and try to keep it as natural as possible

@@aussiedirtdigger755 Ahhh, but how do you know that this coral was originally red? I think it might have been a dark purple, even! Hehe!

G'day Cathy 👋🏻🏖️ They certainly sunk after being submerged for a few hours! Ahh, I think this is what happened: the Coral's surface is very porous, so perhaps it held microbubbles in it and all around it, which caused it to float. The inside of the coral did not seem to have a noticeable mount of air trapped inside, so this is the best idea I can come up with 🤔😅 very interesting, in any case! Thanks you so much for watching something so different today 🥰
