To date this was one of the most satisfying jobs I've been on. Driving back through the field to see the impact of what we had done was incredibly satisfying.

I’d love to see someone clean a ditch with a toothed dirt bucket. . . Everytime I get in a situation a ditch needs mucked out there’s no welder available to weld a straight edge on the bucket :/
@DieselandIron
@DieselandIron 2 жыл бұрын
Whenever I am in that situation I do the exact same thing that I have done here except I do a final pass using the heel of my bucket too slick off the mud

Do you need to wear hearing protection in the cab or is the cab sound proof?
@DieselandIron
@DieselandIron 3 жыл бұрын
In the old machines you absolutely need to wear hearing protection but in all of the new machines they are built to OSHA standards and did not require any hearing protection. These machines are pretty quiet in the cab even with the windows open.

What is the best option for getting training or getting into heavy equipment. Operators union of course but are there any other. Schools or training programs. I'm a journeyman laborer with a bit of heavy equipment training. At some point I want to get into heavy equipment
@DieselandIron
@DieselandIron 3 жыл бұрын
If you can't get into the operators union I would shoot for working at a smaller non union company. I know the brotherhood will give you copious amounts of shit for being a scab but theres no better education that getting in the seat and learning in real job conditions. No trade school that I'm aware of will give you a true operator experience that is worth the money you pay.
@Whatsahandle4
@Whatsahandle4 3 жыл бұрын
@@DieselandIron right on. Thanks. The only set back with operaters union might be dui's and felonies.( No unspeakable charges). The laborers never cared and I've worked for British petroleum, Houston, Kiewit..etc. will that be an issue?
@boomerang379
@boomerang379 2 жыл бұрын
I live in Mississippi, lots of farmers have trackhoes. All you have to do is be willing to work a lot of hours on a farm and you’ll get a chance to run a trackhoe. Working on a farm means no labor Union, no osha or msha, long hours and lower pay but you get to operate all kinds of machines.

I ran a concrete breaker for 32 hours straight before tapping out. It was a project at Detroit Metro Airport and we had 14 days from start to finish to complete a section of taxiway. It was one of the fastest, most stressful projects I've ever worked on.

@@McHighler it was pretty brutal. I won't do it again. I was pretty young and still somewhat green to the industry and I didn't realize that I had the ability to say I'd had enough. In hindsight I probably would have called it around the 24-hour mark
