as always carter....QUALITY stuff you post//thanks.....those old colonial buckles are killer was that site the same old house you found your 1877 IHOP a few weeks back?? i find a ton of IHOPs and old coppers myself; have had the best luck letting them soak for a 6-8 week period in mineral oil//baby oil to deeply soften even the hardest oxidation; then instead of a super fine STEEL wool....i use a super fine BRASS wool pad made by the same exact company as the one you use!! the brass wool has the same hardness(hardness scale) as the copper coins thusly i can really put some elbow grease into the cleaning process without ever worrying about seeing the steel wool micro-scratches. the neat thing about the long soak in the baby oil is that once i have brass wooled the coins, i just buff them out with a wash cloth(dry cotton) and they have the same appearance as a well burnished piece of fine antique copper//brass

Hello, thank you for the nice comments. I use the Uniprobe which is a pulse induction probe built into a set of headphones. You can read about them at Detectorpro.com

Great video I just found 4 coppers do you always use the steel wool on them ? The 1833 large cent I found is off stamped obverse is off the reverse it’s super nice shape but I want to just clean it up

I wouldn't use it if it was heavily corroded but if it's just caked on dirt, that's when I use the steel wool. Good luck with it

Really liked the video and I also bought some of that verdi care. I have a 1816 LC I dug last night its a solid coin just has this green film over it. Any suggestions? I take full responsibility for my actions. Just curious as your IH also had a slight green tinge before putting that on. Any suggestions would be awesome.

If you want to keep that green patina on the coin, don't put it in hydrogen peroxide because it will get the dirt off but it will make the coin dark brown. If there is not any crustacean on the coin but just dirt, use a soft toothbrush with a little dish soap and water. Use the very fine steel wool with soap and water if the toothbrush does not work. Taking your time is the key. Congratulations on that 1816!

Newbie here! Just got my first metal detector. You use the tone but then turn it to a different tone. What's that second sound telling you? Why do you use both? I realized recently after watching videos that I also need a pin pointer so that's on the wish list!

Amazing, congrats...Was that an early 1700's buckle or some kind of spectacle buckle?

Looks like a late 1700 / early 1800s buckle. The property was 1790s

@@DetectorComparisons Congrats again, beautiful buckle and nice info on cleaning. Watching your videos are always exciting.. I've been using sort of a run of the mill detector for like 6 years that I won off KZfaq. It's all I can afford sort of and even though I'm good with my machine and can work Iron with it I still feel like I'm missing targets that better machines like yours doesn't miss..

Do you dig everything or do you dig everything above a certain TID? I love your channel. It’s the best on KZfaq by far. It’s very informative. I ordered up the Uniprobe today. It’s on the road. I should have it Saturday. Now if Old Man Winter would just hit the road. There’s still lots of snow in the U.P of Michigan where I live.

When I'm at an old spot, I dig everything 40 and above. If I'm at a park, I'll dig the low numbers if they're deep. I found once I got used to the Uniprobe I couldn't go back to a handheld pinpointer. Hope everything melts for you soon!

@@DetectorComparisons Thanks for answering so quick. Keep the videos coming. I figure in a week or so I’ll be hitting the brush. I’ve been studying maps and aerial photos over the winter. I’ve got several old logging camps to check out. I’m running Deep HC. My settings are Disc 6.8, Sen 96, Iron volume 2, Reactivity 1.5, Audio Response 4, Silencer 0, Notch 0 & B Caps 0. Are your settings comparable when you use Deep HC?

@@robertmattern2078 deep hi conductor is very impressive. Your settings are close to mine but a lot of it is personal preference. If there's not much iron trash keeping the reactivity of 1.5 is fine. I run mine at 2 and you see how it does even in iron. Iron volume I keep down at 1. All your other settings are right where I keep mine. Make sure you're always ground balanced and good luck

@@DetectorComparisons Thanks. I’ve got a fifty cent piece buried in my test garden @ 11”. Now I see why you dig the low numbers on a deep target. In Park and General I get a TID of 31-35. Happy Hunting.

I’ve got another question for you Carter. When you use your 4/40 kHz check program what are your settings? I’m thinking of using Disc 6.1,Sen 99,IV 1,React 0, AR 5. I was able to get out yesterday and detect at one of our local football fields. I found 2 Mercs and 10 Wheat backs. Not a bad day.

How is your Mono4 program set up Carter? I had a good day detecting today. I found a 1907 Barber dime (My first Barber coin) a 1924 Canadian nickel, a 1938 Canadian penny, a Buffalo nickel & five Wheat pennies today. Not a bad day at all. I staked out a 30’ X 30’ area and went over it with a fine tooth comb with my Deus II using a nine inch coil. I used Deep HC with Disc 6.7, Sensitivity 96, Iron volume 1, React 1.5, Audio resp 4, 0 BC, Notch 0, Silencer 0, Pitch tones (524), PWM & Equalizer 3/6/12/12.

Sounds like a good day out! Your studies look real good, the only thing I would do different is bump up the reactivity to two for the separation. But if your area doesn't that much iron then I'm sure one will work great for you. When I switch over to Mono 4kHz, I have a sensitivity at 95, reactivity 2, iron volume 1, audio response 4, disc 6.8, silence 1 and no notching

I’ll check out reactivity 2 in my coin garden. I found the Barber dime on my ninth inning run. I had completed my staked out area and didn’t find any silver coins. I was kind of pissy pants. I said I’m going to go one more run. Sure enough I got a 92 and thought it would be a silver dime. Sure enough at 7” was the Barber dime. It just goes to show you, it ain’t over till it’s over. Don’t give up.

I just checked out your settings in my coin garden. I switched to my 11” coil, changed the reactivity to 2 and the Iron volume to 1. It’s a go. The next time I go out I’m going to do some serious smacking. Now if the rain would just stop. Give it three weeks and the mosquitoes will be horrendous in the U.P of Michigan.
