Every year, we throw 300 million tons of plastic waste, which ends up in rivers and oceans, and then enters into our bodies. Plastic kills fish, birds and animals, both in water and on land. Human waste products have become a serious problem for the ecosystems of the rivers, seas and oceans. They are stored over the years and sometimes form big waste islands and garbage spots. The coasts of many developing countries are lined with plastic bottles, fishing tackle and different packaging.
During the pandemic, these garbage mountains were replenished with disposable masks and gloves. To learn how-with the help of modern technologies, businessmen and startups who are not indifferent to our planet ecology, bring the cleaning of water sources to the next level-see our episode. In 2015, experts conducted a study of more than forty thousand rivers flowing into the Pacific Ocean and got an unexpected result. It turned out that almost all the garbage that goes into the oceans comes from rivers.

Guess that's easy stop throwing trash in the river this only captures floating surface trash. It will not stop trash that floating deeper in the water to get to sea and does not clean any trash along the river itself. So best way to clean your river is to prevent trash from getting into it.

@@linuxfiredragon but even then, if we stop throwing garbage, we have to get rid of the garbage in there, both on the surface and of the deep. Not throwing garbage will prevent any further pollution, but we also need to clean the already polluted rivers. Hope you understand what I mean.

They are already about to launch their 3rd iteration of their ocean cleanup system that they predict will have the Pacific cleaned up by 2030. But their log term is trying to find actually permanent ways to clear these rivers but is still in testing. The river collection is their hardest thing to prefect right now.

Wow! Great video, even better than The Ocean Cleanup does. 2040? Maybe with a little help, we have installed 6 river trash Kabooms in Camiguin Island Southern Philippines,,,,just in this last year. They are made from used tires and plastic bottles, trash stopping trash. I love what The Ocean Cleanup is doing and can't wait for them to come help us here in Philippines.

Think twice before you throw ! Not only plastic….. anything which brings pollution in…. Air , water and Earth too. Packaging industry should be more eco friendly. The use and throw technology matters much. It’s way of thinking needs to develop since childhood….start with Diapers…till throwing a corpus in a water…. Still, I am happy someone has taken it seriously!! Good luck!

Great to see that there are so many exciting and innovative projects out there, to save our waters. We try this through a holistic approach, using garbage collection boats, and a river platform, together with AI - but also within the fields of recycling, environmental education, and local partnerships. 🌊

All countries should unite and raise sufficient fund and have a joint medium to long term plan to tackle the problem of rivers and oceanic pollution. All best technologies should be applied. An international agency should inspect and oversee the implementation of hydrosphere cleaning programme. The culprit or indifferent government or industry should be penalised. The programme should be implemented on war footing

I live near a creek and a major river, go to Cape Cod frequently and see a number of other rivers. I have never over seen plastic in any of them and I live on the East coast of US. What about that??? And no one came in and cleaned them up. I travel, drive, to the Midwest, New England, south to Nashville. Never any plastic in any water.

Though this is better than doing nothing, it's simply treating the symptom rather than the cause. If we simply collect the plastic and sells it, it will only be shifting it from floating in water to landfills or piles on land. It will be like a hoarder shifting things around instead of actually letting go of things. Shifting around of plastic waste will only be a resource exhaustive with constantly depreciating returns....unless and until we start treating every plastic material not as waste but as an asset the value of which depreciates the more it's exposed to sun and wear 'n tear. We should have enough and more, reclaiming, repurposing, state of the art recycling facilities that will pay anybody an amount worth the trouble to collect, keep and easily drop off recyclables as soon as they can. That will develop an entire economy chain on it's own, if dropping off/pick up is highly accessible and the money substantial. The ideal solution will be when river cleaning machines retire, when there isn't enough plastic in rivers, when it's not washed into rivers from land when the users don't discard plastic in land, but reduce-reuse-repurpose and recycle as those become monetarily benifitial than throwing plastic away. Bring value to plastic and people won't throw it away carelessly.

Only rich countries can afford the luxuries of clean water, clean soil, clean air & garbage disposal services. Likewise they can afford to protect & preserve their natural areas. With access to abundant cheap convenient energy through fossil fuels poorer countries would be able to do the same. Also they would be able to clean up their garbage. The pointless efforts to make energy scarce & expensive in the cause of an imaginary climate change crisis will cause the environment to get worse.

I believe you’re dreaming. It’s a good goal but with people caring less and less and not educating themselves and their children about the importance of a clean environment, i believe we won’t get too far with the efforts. More and more plastics are being produced than we can get rid off and with an increasing population that don’t give a dam especially young ones, it’s a lost cause 😢.

Ocean Cleanup is not a sustainable solution; eventually it will run out of funds to continue operating. The only way to solve this problem is to teach cultures how to properly dispose of their refuse and to reduce our reliance on materials that outlive their useful life.
