I am helping to clean and organize this shared bedroom to help a single mom with ADHD who had a pile of stuff dumped on her front doorstep by her ex-husband before he moved to Australia, which was quite overwhelming for her. She is actually quite organized in most areas of her home and having this dumped on her suddenly created a problem as she just couldn't mentally deal with it all, so she asked for my help. Much of the stuff you see in the center of this room is not necessarily even the kid's things, but there was little room elsewhere in this two-bedroom apartment to store anything. She has quite a lot of nice storage, but just not enough space. The kids themselves are VERY creative and even gifted I would say. They have a lot of creative projects around their home and in their room and A LOT of TINY TINY THINGS which made for some tedious organizing, but we had a lot of fun as well.
I also talk about my recent autism diagnosis in this episode and how that has helped me to understand some stuff about myself a little better.

I thought I would just do a pinned comment about this so I don't have to spend a ton of time responding to each of these comments separately.

This all seemed totally normal to me. When we are a part of a family that we love and trust, where we can truly be ourselves, sans judgment, our goofiness and nerdiness are "free to roam". That's what healthy, loving and trusting relationships are about. Don't be so hard on yourself. We are all quirky and unique in our own ways.

All that stuff gives me so much anxiety. I’m embracing minimalism more and more. The less you have the less you have to take care of.

Saw nothing weird.all i saw was a mom and daughter interacting the way they always do. Lots of love and fun and laughter.

Be "weird" with your mom as often as you can, I lost my mom to ovarian cancer when she was 62.

Your are real, and not weird at all. That’s what families are all about when there’s love, trust and acceptance.

The mom and the daughter could share the largest room, using some of the son's room for storage of daughters things.

At some point you have got to throw away or donate things. If you don't your space is deplete. I don't care how hard you try. If you don't you will find yourself moving thongs from one spot to another and you will think you have organized things. Before buying anything get rid of somethings. ❤❤

You can’t create more space but at this point it’s time to declutter! Decluttering will naturally make the space feel bigger. The kids will also feel better having a clean and tidy room.

I didn't find anything wrong with the interaction between you and your mom. Just a playful moment. It shows that you are comfortable with each other. You often mention that you think you sound uninteresting and maybe speak to slowly. You are doing a great !

I had a boy & a girl. I built a knockdown wall with a door in it. They each had a window, & respected each other's space. When my son moved out, I took the wall down. Easy peasy, lemon sqeezy.

I shared a room with my brother who is 10 years older. We got along really well. Still do. We each had a side of the room to decorate how we wanted. My toys and stuffed animals stayed on my side, his skateboards and books on his. We were in charge of keeping our own space tidy.

That is a lot of stuff for 2 children to manage. I speak from experience, not condemnation. You and your mom did a great job on this cleaning/organizing!
