Thanks for taking time to produce the video. I am responding because I am reading so many comments from people asking the same basic question - "How can I get rid of mold?" The answer is lower the humidity of the space- period. Mold will not grow in a dry environment. You can clean all you want but until you fix the cause, it will return. Buy a portable dehumidifier, or two and let them run 24/7. And it can take weeks, even months to drop the humidity level down enough to discourage the growth. Walls, floors, carpet, furniture all absorb moisture, so it can take a while to dry everything out. But when under control, no more mold cleaning, and healthier air. Oh, and throw that dishwash sponge in the microwave for 20-30 seconds. They almost never dry out and are full of spores. Yuk.

I tried many products for a very yucky mildew problem in the shower. Finally the only thing I could get to work was a Clorox bleach pen. I am like you...I normally do not use bleach at all. But I just got so fed up. It worked wonders. I highly recommend it for those who can use a little bleach. It comes out as a gel so very easy to apply. Please follow package instructions.
@garypuckettmuse
@garypuckettmuse 4 жыл бұрын
clorox doesn't kill mold or mildew. it bleaches it so it can't be seen. mold and mildew have to be removed as the smell and the toxins come from the waste products the mold and mildew create from digestion. with grout the mold or mildew have grown into the grout but if it hasn't been there forever a stiff brush may actually scrub away enough of the grout to remove the roots. hydrogen peroxide also bleaches mold but i think it also kills it.

Hi from Calgary. Just used the vinegar treatment on my small vented interior bathroom/shower ceiling about 40 sq ft. It worked great and very happy to have a less toxic treatment. Definitely needed my glasses for ceiling work! Had to go to green scothbrite pad (easy does it) but the specles came off quite easily with pad treatment. Divided work into about 4-6 sq ft sections and lots of breaks because it is a beautiful day here, finally. Thanks for your video.

Living in hot and humid Louisiana, we had a mold problem upstairs in our home. We couldn't figure out why our rooms upstairs smelled "musty" after it would rain. We had a engineer come and within seconds he told us to pull back our picture frames on the wall. When we did, the wall was covered with mold. He told we were lucky we caught it early and all we had to do was put Damp Rid underneath the frames. Within a few days, all of it was gone. Great video!

I’m surprised clove oil wasn’t mentioned. It’s a great go to & it’s said that it does reduce mould returning. Just used it so waiting to see. Also using clove oil in an oil burner helping to kill off mould spores. Mould can be very bad for your health. Look up symptoms. Could be helpful if you’re not aware of how it can effect you & your family 🤩❤️🙏🏼

Really useful video! We bought an older home about a year ago and I've noticed what looks like little spots of mold growing on the walls in our guest bathroom closet. Do you think it would help just to paint the walls or do we need to do something else? As always, excellent video! :-) -Kelsey
@NoorAnomaly
@NoorAnomaly 9 жыл бұрын
If you just paint over it, it will just camouflage the problem. You're going to have to figure out what is causing the spots. Is in on an outer wall? Leaky gutters (cleaned those lately?) Bathroom next door? Or laundry room? Even a roof leak? If you get to the root of the problem before it can spread too much, you can stifle the water flow to the mold, and possibly kill it that way. But if it's showing on this side of the wall, chances are you're going to have to rip down pieces of your wall and check the back of it. Did you get insurance when you purchased the home? Check to see if you're still covered, if you did. Good luck!

Thank you for this very informative video :) I have heard and read everywhere that bleach actually does NOT help with mould. It only bleaches the colour, but does not kill the mould. Clove oil is the best option, though it is a little smelly. Vinegar is also very good. PS: I got quite annoyed by the music. It is way too loud and too repetitive :(

Great video! A question for you: what can I do to reduce the amount of dust bunnies around my apartment? It seems like they're everywhere, and as soon as I dust and vacuum they reappear immediately! And what can I do about my heavily dirty marble floor? I think it has absorbed dirt and grey stains inside and mopping doesn't help at all.

Hi Melissa, This is a great video. Our country experiences monsoons for around 4 months every year &during that time, we can go on for days & weeks together with rain outdoors & dampness indoors. It is just not possible to keep things dry & away from mold & mildew. Its not practical to have a de humidifier either. Anyway how can we keep our cars smelling fresh & dry during that time of the year? Especially with the carpeting & matting that always gets wet when the doors are opened?

oh! and don't forget behind the fridge!!! How often do I do that? NEVER. Because how in the HECK am I going to move it? Also afraid of tipping it over or breaking something. But I am 100% certain in REALLY needs to get cleaned back there!

Curious with the holidays coming and all the associated baking, how in the world do you get the gunk off baking pans? I've noticed my non-stick spray over the years has left permant gunk on all my bake-ware, both glass & metal.
@LydiaTarine12
@LydiaTarine12 9 жыл бұрын
YES! Do a video on this, please! I have noticed this too (and so have other people I know), which is why I now only use 100% oil non-stick sprays. In fact, Weight Watchers (and probably other companies) sells this wonderful little thing where you can put your own oil in, pump the canister some number of times, then spray the oil out like a spray can. Just plain oil does an amazing job with keeping things from sticking and when it's sprayed out as a thin coating it doesn't leave things greasy or add a lot of calories. I think it might also re-season the pan some, but I won't guarantee that. It's a subject I would love to hear others' thoughts on in general along with how to rid your precious cookware of the residue left by normal non-stick sprays.

I poured some boiling water & white vingar in the sink with a bunch of pans sprinkled with baking soda and a bit of dish soap, let it soak until it was cool enough to scrub and used old foil to scrub away, I managed to get a ton of it off but my hand is killing me, so its going to soak overnight and I'll scrub some more at it tomorrow. Hopefully this helps others!

rockerbaby2003, Stainless steel pads and lots of elbow grease will get all except the very inside corners clean. I can never quite get that small part, but all the rest comes off. You can also hep it along with baking soda. If you've got kids, this is a great punishment! "You did WHAT?!?!!! OK, you have to spend 1/2 hour scrubbing the cookie sheet..."

Try BarKeepers Friend....I clean professionally and this works great even on those nasty shower doors that you can't even see through. You can find it at Walmart or most grocery stores. I like to use the liquid...just squirt on a non-scratch scrubby and then rinse with water. Your shower will look like new! Once its clean I like to also use Greased Lightening to maintain it. Happy cleaning!

Last spring, my vinyl siding had some icky stuff growing on it and I read that bleach is commonly used to get rid of it but it also grows back quickly. Vinegar goes to the source and destroys mold/mildew. I also read that alkaline products such as baking soda and borax are used as prevention.. I'm planning to wash it again this year as a preventative measure to get rid of the stuff missed the first time; any tips or suggestions?

For those who are mold allergy sufferers, like myself, fall is a rough time. The leaves outside let of a lot of spores, and if you live in a slab house, or have your bedroom in the basement, you might experience more severe allergies. Turns out that because the concrete is porus, it's more likely to harbor mold spores. Needless to say, we're looking to move asap! But until then, my allergy doc said it would get better once the first hard freeze sets in.

When we redid our bathroom, our Tile man said to put 3 coats of Mother's car wax on the tile and groat. Letting each coat dry , then buff off. This prevent water from seeping into the groat and water beads foof quickly.This should be done once a year.

Hi. Help! I suspect mold in the downstairs den in a home I'm renting. I'd like to clean the carpet in this area as I bet this is the source of my problem. We have the smell and "feel funny" when we are in this room. What product and process can be used to purge the carpet and underlay of any potential mold/mildew?
@echantra9937
@echantra9937 9 жыл бұрын
+Nathan Daggett I have a similar problem to yours! I also have that musty, damp, unpleasant small in the hallway and bedroom. I also think it is from the carpet and underlay as there are no visible signs of mildew or mould. I had to purchase a dehumidifier which helps take extra moisture out of the air, but the underlying problem is still there and I feel choked by the invisible spores I can't see! I have also an ionic air purifier, which honestly does make a difference to the air quality! Especially in the bedroom. But finding a complete solution is hard. There will always be that mould smell unless the source is found- this is what is driving me crazy as it costs money to try to keep moisture and mould out of the air. There are bushes outside all around the building, so I am wondering if the source is that. Do you have trees or bushes around yours at all? I will try the vinegar and essential oil solution on the carpet next and let it air dry. I do hope you find a solution to your damp that doesn't cost you the earth!
