Come out with a reasonably priced press I’ll I’d love to buy one!

Well the problem is that these presses are solid metal since they distribute temperature difference really quickly. Other cheaper materials are nowhere near as good or potentially not food safe, so the high price is stuck since the raw material its made from has a high value alone.

@@turnip1stew it's not from the raw material, there Eis only a certain audience that cares about something as useless as clear spheres and that's the higher "society" just as with apple, those company's know they can milk the simple Sheep's.

@@gaymohammed3137 it's because they make the whole thing into one heat pipe, which is very complex to manufacture. imo it shouldn't cost $1000 but it's still pretty expensive to make

I do the directional freeze method using a commercially available mold, filtered water, boiled beforehand. Every two days I make more to keep them in rotation and honestly, some turn out looking more like the $200 aluminum press than the other ones. At home, I can’t justify the freezer space of a whole cooler AND $200 for an ice press.

Best method in my view: freeze water in a yeti or stanley cup, dump the unfrozen water & trim the clear ice plug to fit your glass if needed. Does the same as the cooler method, but takes up a hell of a lot less space in your freezer. And a cylinder contributes a negligibly small amount of additional dilution vs a sphere.

While I do generally prefer whisky neat, an ice ball is definitely the best way to chill and dilute it.

clear ice dilutes very slow, it will only chill unless you leave it in for hours

Did you put a cocktail chemistry logo on that ice ball press or do you sell those? I checked the amazon link (although quickly) and didn't see it.

Who has ever been to a bar who is serving crystal clear ice balls ? ...and if anybody been to that bar do you think they pay a guy to make ice balls or they are using machines or just get them from a supplier ?

You wasted so much ice freezing it that way. Circulate the water while it freezes. Maybe with a fountain pump. Everything but the top will be clear. Then cut the block into cubes and melt them that way. No air, no bubbles, no contaminates, and no particulates. Perfect glass.
