Btw not sure if anyone else suggested this but since you said your sink tip reel/line wasn't working and had to use your floating line I'd recommend using a fast sinking poly leader. They're way cheaper than a whole new line and you can loop to loop it on the end of your floating line so it's easy to put on and take off. It works good for me!

Slipry Trout Woah no need to insult us, there are many Anglers I’ve met in Ontario that are very respectful to both the environment and other anglers, I wasn’t even thinking about going to Michigan, all I was asking was if a creek like this would be cold and pure enough to hold brook trout

Small creeks, spring fed, in southern Michigan sometimes have brook trout, more likely browns. Streams as big as the one in this video are usually too warm for brook trout. Too much run-off, too little shade. The northern part of the lower peninsula has some larger streams with brookies.

What is this style of leader setup? From the video it looked like a bunch of split shot at the top of the leader and then about 6 feet of line with your streamer at the end and you just dead drifted through the hole? Could you explain your setup/methodology? Just genuinely curious here not tryin to hate.

Fresh Chrome salmon 50 miles from a river mouth generally taste good. If they have been in the river awhile they lose all the fat and amino acids- the meat turns white and has a dry cottony texture when cooked. Most people will smoke fish like that with lots of soy, brown sugar and whiskey on it to kind of mask the flavor and improve the texture.

That brown was an awesome catch. The colors on it were really neat. In a kind of sadistic way the kings were pretty fun to watch. That being said the coho’s and the brown put up a much more acrobatic, and entertaining fight. On a side note, do you follow Jay Siemens on here? He recently put out a video going over how he films his vlogs in a kind of “how to”, and I think you should check it out. If your familiar with his work, it’s about the highest quality outdoors video/audio production I’ve seen out there besides studio productions, and if not check him or Uncut Angling out. Either way keep the videos coming! Nicely done

@Gareth_Thomas 5 жыл бұрын
I'm a subscriber and a fan, but I have to agree with Ty here. I've seen you assert on at least one video of another KZfaqr that every fish therein had been flossed, yet here you're saying you were able to elicit legitimate bites using very similar tactics. I'm not suggesting you're wrong about that, since I know full well that salmon will bite flies in rivers under the right circumstances, but if you're able to achieve legit eats on the fly using lead and a short swing, why is it a stretch to imagine other KZfaqrs might as well?
@FishFray
@FishFray 5 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, this style of leader is the only way to get a fly down in this type of hole. I fish it knowing that a fish or two may get flossed in that situation, but my goal is to get fish to chase and eat, which I saw several of these do. I'm not sure what comment you're referring to but I'm guessing the person was blatantly flossing running fish in shallower water, rather than holding fish in a deep pool. My mindset has also changed a lot this season so my past comments don't always reflect the way I feel right now
@Gareth_Thomas
@Gareth_Thomas 5 жыл бұрын
Don't get me wrong, that's the tactic I'd be using in that spot as well, and like you, I'd be expecting a mix of legitimate bites and accidental floss jobs. The video in question was filmed on the Salmon River in Pulaski (not exactly a bastion of sporting practices, I know), on the DSR. The angler was using buggers, ESLs and the like, and aiming for a straight, vertical presentation to avoid flossing. Obviously he wasn't entirely successful, but it sounded at the time as though you'd discounted the possibility of any of those fish having legitimately eaten. I'm glad to hear your opinion's evolved on that. If anything, I'm starting to acknowledge that more salmon hookups may actually be floss jobs than I used to be prepared to admit.
