I did 4 months in the Balboa Oncology Ward in 1996 getting 38 shots of radiation for Hodgkins Lymphoma when I was a 20 year old Airmen. They took excellent care of me and made it possible for me to finish my 20 in the Air Force. Thanks to Nikki and every medical professional for what you do.
@KiwiAntz56
@KiwiAntz56 3 жыл бұрын
God bless you. That must of been harsh back then. I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma last year and after the 1st two treatments my pet scan showed no signs of cancer. Still had to finish the ABVD treatment for the next 5 months & minor radiation on a small part of my chest. I got the new "B" chemo medicine because they found out the old one was giving ppl lung cancers. Big shout out the ppl who got experimental trial chemo treatments in then past, I feel like I got cancer at the right time when all the ways to exterminate the one I have, have already been figured out. Super grateful.
@djdavies7556
@djdavies7556 3 жыл бұрын
@@KiwiAntz56 Bravo and good luck to you! The medical treatments for cancer have improved so much since I went through it and everyone I know who had Hodgkins has beaten it, so the odds are strongly in your favor. I volunteered for an experimental college protocol program to compare results of radiation only vice chemo and radiation. I won the coin toss and only had to do the radiation. Other than my hair falling out in the back like Wild Thing from Major League, some short term pulmonary effects later, and the radiation burning the hair and skin off my arm pits (which scored me a uniform waiver, so no complaints), I consider myself the luckiest of the lucky. The bone marrow biopsy was 1000x worse than the treatment! Stay strong, kick cancers ass, and be sure to thank your med pros for the work they do for us.
@KiwiAntz56
@KiwiAntz56 3 жыл бұрын
@@djdavies7556 Glad that you’re doing better. Thank you for taking part in that program. When I was diagnosed they told me not to worry because it is the most curable cancer now. My stage 4 wasn’t that bad considering I’m in my late 20s & in good shape. My anesthesiologist made sure they did the bone marrow biopsy while I was already alseep/under the knife for my lymph node biopsy luckily! Radiation has advanced a lot. The only side effect I had was a sunburn on my chest & back. My doc is confident my next pet scan will still show no signs of cancer. Thanks for sharing your story.

@@KiwiAntz56 Aw, you lucky bastard! I have a high tolerance for pain killers, so despite getting 4x the normal amount of lidocaine shots, I still felt everything. Nothing like feeling a giant ass needle punching through the back of your pelvis and striking the inside of the bone on the other side. I saw red, buried my fist elbow deep in the wall, and my doc jumped back. I look back in radical pain, covered in sweat, see and feel the blood running down my ass cheek, a big ass needle sticking out of my lower back, and my doc, a Navy Captain, is standing about six feet back, also covered in sweat and breathing heavily, eyes huge and he asks, "you good bro?" I couldn't help but laugh at the craziness as I laid there with my fist in the adjacent room, impaled face down on a medical bed, and a Navy O-6 scared shitless that I might leap off the bed and stab him with the needle sticking out of my ass. He was a great doctor and officer and we had a lot of fun laughs about it afterwards.

They use either ceramic or porcelain needles with wires attached to them and poke and poke and poke away while listening to the awful sound the machine makes. That its the most painful and annoying test I've done to this day. Id rather get a root canal any day of the week over another one of those.

*Here in China - the origin of this whole mess - the COVID-19 scare has ironically ended.* Social distancing ended ages ago, kids returned to school & people returned to work months back, and masks are only worn in big public areas (e.g. airports & train stations), if the store requires (Apple, yes; Starbucks, no), or if the person wants to (roughly 1/4 of elderly & people on the street do, the rest don't).

Glad you mentioned anthrax vaccine, & didn't take it. The book "Vaccine A" by Gary Matsumoto, opened my eyes.

I’m gonna be 30 next year and have a bachelors degree... is it a no brainer to go the officer route or join enlisted? I always figured I would join enlisted and work my way up but since they mentioned it now I’m thinking I should go officer 100%

Not that my opinion matters since I don’t know you, but after 20 years enlisted, go officer. There is no money on our side of the house. While active or when leaving.

A good idea to have an every day carry. Better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it

There is an undeniable chemistry between these two. I see a future of them together. To Nikki, you are not a nobody. You are a fantastic woman who had an awesome career of accomplishments during your time in the Navy. Thank you for your service.
