Why did they think life was better in the suburbs? What changed about the cities?

CLE has improved quite a bit. At least downtown has. The neighborhoods are turning to shit but as long as the hipster doofuses and rich kids can hang out in the ever so new and improved downtown, nobody gives a shit about the neighborhoods.

first thing I want to say is I'm from Cleveland from The Tremont area and west side then later moved to the east side then to Lorain Ohio and the reason why Cleveland is on the decline is because it's very very very very very very very poor police response time end of story

I can’t believe people living in the Cleveland suburbs, still identify as Clevelanders. That is so fucked up. If you live in any of the suburbs, then you are not a Clevelander. In order to be a Clevelander, then you must live in Cleveland proper. People obviously cling to the myth that a metropolitan area is just one city. It isn’t. For example if you live in Northern Virginia, then you shouldn’t say you live in Washington, DC. Here’s another example. If you live in Oakland County, MI, then you shouldn’t say you live in Detroit. Get it. Here’s a reference to defend my logic: newrepublic.com/article/118967/cities-vs-suburbs-dont-lie-about-where-youre Also, Cleveland has yet to make a comeback, especially with it’s eroding population, and so has every other Rust Belt city for that matter. Chances are Cleveland could become a ghost town, as well as Detroit, Gary, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Youngstown, and many other Rust Belt cities. And don’t believe all the bogus optimism you heard in the video, because there’s a greater likelihood of the aforementioned cities becoming a ghost town. Also the decline of the Rust Belt, has actually caused great economic decline in the U.S., and now it’s so hard for any working class individual to break even in today’s economy. You’d be lucky if you live in Bakersfield, which is a real success story, thanks to its thriving population and predominately working class population. And Bakersfield is one of the few US cities where the working class can break even.

Yes, those cities have had their day. They are dead and there is not bringing them back.

Tommy Truth you are so fucking ignorant. You think every Rust Belt city is dead. Well you must be some elitist from Silicon Valley. You obviously fail to realize that the decline of the Rust Belt has lead to the decline of the working class. You know if the Rust Belt cities didn’t deindustrialize in the first place, then they would be doing a whole lot better than they are doing now.

This is an old outdated video. Cleveland is going through a major rennasance . Billions of dollars of investment, New hotels, apartments , housing all being constructed. Great city on the rise

Not accurate. Cleveland is still in decline worse than ever. Downtown is doing good because of the major renovations such as public square, playhouse square. University circle is doing good also. But the other 20 areas in Cleveland are basically 50% vacant, drugs, crime, abandoned factories, huge potholes, ect.

Again simply not true. So many new housing starts and wonderful neighborhoods abound in Cleveland. Just take a look at Battey Park, Tremont, Ohio City, Duck Island, Little Italy , Detroit Shoreway, Clifton Edge Development. Most of the new construction is 350 k and up and are all sold. Millennials and Empty nesters are moving into the city in droves Why must some people ONLY dwell on the bad parts. (So Negative) The Cleveland Metro area is one of the nicest in the nation . Some of the most affluent communties in the US are located in Cleveland ie.. Gates Mills, Pepper Pike, Rocky River, Hunting Valley, Beachwood, Bay Village , Westlake etc etc, The bad parts of Cleveland comprise maybe 5 - 10% tops ,. .
