KVIC Launches Khadi Prakritik Paint with अष्ट लाभ (Eight Benifits) of Cow Dung
Cow dung, since ancient times, is known for its bactericidal, fungicidal and germicidal properties. Essentially because of these advantages, cow dung is traditionally used in Indian households particularly in the rural areas for painting the walls and floors of the houses. Cow dung is also a natural thermal insulator which, when applied on walls and floors, keeps them warm in winters and cool in summers.
Seeking to carry forward this age-old tradition while also harnessing the commercial potential of cow dung, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has for the first time developed wall paint from cow dung named as “Khadi Prakritik Paint”. This cow dung paint is innovative, eco-friendly and cost-effective. It is nominally priced but has huge financial benefits.
Khadi Prakritik Paint is available in two forms - distemper paint and plastic emulsion paint. This paint comes with 8 natural benefits of cow dung, i.e. Ashta Laabh - anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, eco-friendly, non-toxic, odorless, cost-effective, free from heavy metals and natural thermal insulation.
Production of Khadi Prakritik Paint is aligned with Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of increasing farmers’ income. The project was conceptualized by Chairman KVIC in March 2020, and later developed by Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute, Jaipur (a KVIC unit).
This paint will be a big boost to local manufacturing and will create sustainable local employment through technology transfer. This technology will also increase consumption of cow dung as a raw material for eco-friendly products as it will also generate additional revenue to farmers, gaushalas. This is estimated to generate additional income of Rs 30,000 (approx) per annum per animal to farmers/ gaushalas. Khadi Prakritik Distemper & Emulsion paints have been tested at 3 reputed National Laboratories.
Khadi Prakritik Emulsion paint meets BIS 15489:2013 standards; whereas Khadi Prakritik Distemper paint meets BIS 428:2013 standards.

Minister for Road Transport and Highways & MSME Shri Nitin Gadkari declared himself the “Brand Ambassador '' of Khadi Prakritk Paint and said he would promote it across the country so as to encourage young entrepreneurs to take up the manufacturing of cow dung paint.Virtually inaugurating the new automated manufacturing unit of Khadi Prakritik Paint, India's first and only paint made from cow dung, in Jaipur todaythe minister appreciated the technology innovation and said this would go a long way in empowering the rural and agro-based economy in the country.
Shri Gadkari said even inaugurating infrastructure projects worth lakhs of crores of rupees is not as pleasing and satisfying as inaugurating this manufacturing unit. He appreciated Khadi and Village Industries Commission for the successful research. He said Khadi Prakritik Paint has immense potential of creating sustainable development for benefit of the poorest of the poor and the target should be setting up a Parkritik Paint unit in each and every village.
On this occasion, Shri Gadkari also placed an order for 1000 liters of Khadi Prakritik Paint (500 liters each of Distemper and Emulsion) which he intends to use at his residence in Nagpur.
The new plant has been set up on the campus of Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute (KNHPI), Jaipur, which is a unit of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). Earlier Prakritik Paint was being manufactured manually on a prototype project. Commissioning of the new manufacturing unit will double the production capacity of Prakritik Paint. At present the daily production of Prakritik Paint is 500 liters which will go up to 1000 liters per day.
