Cliff Richard and The Shadows spent two days in Poland. They played four concerts. A performance from October 12 was released on a cd.

In an article in "Przekrój" magazine, Lucjan Kydryński wrote:
"A couple of thousand teenagers pressed hard on the net fencing off the airport (...) So the landing of the plane from London was not announced, the machine was driven to a secluded place on the airport apron, cars were allowed to drive up to the very steps of the plane in order to simply steal the young singer from his admirers.

There is something amazing about the extraordinary popularity that radio gives today. How it shrinks the world, shapes fashions and tastes, awakens the imagination. Here is Cliff Richard arriving in a foreign country where no one has seen him before, where his records aren't sold, where they actually only know him from the radio and - there are thousands waiting for him!

They play brilliantly; there's very little of the mindless, noisy banging of guitars that for many in our country is synonymous with youth music."
According to Kydryński, the show began with a 35-minute performance by The Shadows, after which Richard took to the stage. He sang about 15 songs, with a slightly different set at each show.
Further on, Kydryński writes:
"His repertoire of gestures and movements is rather limited; a few lightning-fast, semi-twist leg bends, slapping his hands on his hips, showy, wide-spreading arms, forward or backward body bends and - that's it. But he does it all with great charm, is immensely likable on stage and never allows himself even a shadow of vulgarity. After every song, he bows like well-bred boys from good homes bow.

Can you even explain this unprecedented interest of the youth in song? This frenzied demand for guitars, relegating theatre, cinema, even sport to the background, and fitting singers as the idols of the young?
I think you can. The youth fad for song is, after all, very closely linked to the revolution in the record industry; the introduction of long-playing records. Huge numbers of records pressed and the fashion for collecting records that are now much better and cheaper

Almost every workplace club, every university has stage bands - it is relatively easy to be accepted into them, to sing at social evenings and to feel like an artist. It's appealing! And what if an impresario shows up at one of these soirées and makes you a star?

It used to be that women fainted at Paganini concerts, then they got hysterical at Liszt concerts, still later they spasmed listening to Paderewski play. Nowadays people scream and stomp at Cliff Richard performances. Such times!
You will say there is a difference between Paganini and Cliff. But there is also a crazy difference in the average age of the listener. Even back in Paderewski's day, were thirteen and fourteen-year-olds being seen in the concert hall? Perhaps it's all much simpler to explain than you might think."
