ernest: The grass is always greener on the other side. This kind of music and that accent come from the poorest part of the USA. The style of music is called "Appalachian murder ballads." I'm sure life was good sometimes, but I'm sure it was also grim sometimes. I spent some time in rural east Tennessee back in the mid-1970s. Good people, mostly. Kind, hospitable, and real. But the decades have not been kind to Appalachia, where life was always hard already. Rural poverty has gotten worse and is now compounded by epidemic levels of drug addiction.

If you have an open-back banjo and you want to practice without pissing off you co-habitants, stuff a shirt or towel in the the back and practice away. Or tell them to get stuffed, whatever works...

I may have commented on this earlier. Forgive me if I did. I'm from southern Ontario. I have Celtic heritage, and look for Acadian, Celtic and Appalachian music. This music hits you in the Centre. It's real. You can hear the heart, the trueness in it. Anybody can see it.

This particular song is less celtic influence and more blues/African influence. Another name for this song is country blues by doc bogg. Plus the banjo is an African instrument
@Niagara-b5l
@Niagara-b5l 3 жыл бұрын
@@gavinmcintosh1668 Well thank you doctor Gavin, but I think it’s fairly safe to assume that this instrument has been adopted by those of Celtic heritage and therefore is recognized as part of that heritage . You know kind of like African Americans playing blues guitar . We associate that with African Americans, even though it’s a European instrument.
