Amazing Talent; Clifton Hicks is one of todays Greatest banjo players and American story tellers; He should have his own television show to share it with America. No Doubt About It.

The banjo is down-tuned from gCGAD.

Wow! I haven't visited this great song in several years, and each year, I learn more and more about this fantastic little instrument, but its pretty clear to me now that NONE of this information was true. The tuning is positively Open-C (gCGCE) tuning, and the tuning was NOT down a half-step or more, as was indicated here. Any-who, play-on, James! ;-)

gCGAD. Actually he's tuned down half a step, but those are the intervals - from open C tuning (gCGCD) tune the second string down to A. The piece is in D, based on mostly fingering the low C string up to D.

Great video. Brutus steals the show. Do you ever get out to Utah? I'd like to book a show if you do...

You brought the 3d string down to match the 4th string? Right? Then you only slide on the 3d string? I just listened to your Relative Tuning Part Two again;

Beautiful! What tuning are you using?

Beautiful playing on a beautiful instrument; what kind of banjo is it? Deering? Saga? Gold Tone?

Someone below posted the following entry regarding Clifton's suspected tuning for this song . . . "gCGAD. Actually he's tuned down half a step, but those are the intervals - from open C tuning (gCGCD) tune the second string down to A. The piece is in D, based on mostly fingering the low C string up to D." Unfortunately, this simply cannot be accurate. I would kill to know the proper tuning for this great song, and perhaps Clifton will be good enough to chime in at some point to provide it, but if you listen closely enough, I think you'll realize that it cannot be gCGAD.

Bruder Goriel Thanks Bruder! I appreciate your feedback. I was kinda hopin' that Clifton himself might be big enough to pipe-in with some pointers on his tuning for this song, but apparently not. It must be considered some sorta "proprietary" (ultra-secretive) kinda deal?!@#$%&?
