This webinar takes a personal look into the journey of three indigenous activists, scholars, artists and lawyers and their fight for climate justice in Canada.
It explores how climate negotiations really work and what needs to be done to ensure effective cross-cultural dialogue and diplomacy in both domestic and international settings.
This event is part of the Oxford Department of International Development's Climate Change and the Challenges of Development series.
Speakers:
Terri-Lynn Williams-Davidson, Gidahl-Guudsdllyaay (she/her), Haida Nation : Counsel to the Haida Nation, an artist, and a Masters student, UBC Law. She is a supporter of Lawyers for Climate Justice, and a research scholar with Canada Climate Law Initiatives.
Beze Gray (they/them), Aamjiwnaang First Nation : Two-spirit climate youth activist and Anishnaabe land/water protector. One of seven youth suing Ontario’s provincial government in Canada for abdicating its responsibility to address climate change.
Deborah McGregor (she/her), Whitefish River Nation: Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Environmental Justice at York University.
