Climbers evacuated from Mount Kinabalu as heavy rain turns summit trail into rapids

49 climbers on Mount Kinabalu were brought down safely after heavy rains saw water gushing down the summit trail.
Sabah Parks director Dr Maklarin Lakim said that guides and porters helped the climbers to safety as strong flowing water came down along the trail following heavy rains that started around 5.50am on Monday (Dec 3).

I summited on March this year. The guides mentioned it was not raining even a bit after that. Guess I am lucky...

sabah potter, guides and rangers best...would be better to close during heavy rain....dangerous to go for summit in such weather

You should blame the park itself, the hold of approval is within their direction.Hikers cannot enter the park without ranger consent and control. Have you been there?

It's a 2 day hike. The summit hike starts at 2 am. It's not easy to predict the weather.

Not the fault of hikers. And also please learnt Geography properly Sabah's monsoon season is not the same as Peninsular Malaysia. Even within Peninsular Malaysia, different parts experience different weather. Wettest month in this part of Sabah is October. Not December.
