Climbing Mt Challenger, July 21, 2020.
Mt Challenger is located in the North Cascades of WA State. I made a 3 day trip to climb Challenger from the longer Hannegan Pass entrance. On the summit day, I started from Whatcom Pass. Clouds rolled in as I was closing in on the summit. The rock climb finish was on pleasant sound rock(Cascade standards) with 3 fixed pitons. As the day progressed the clouds receded and the views were excellent.

It's been 40 years since I was on Challenger. Nice to see the old guy again. I really enjoy your trips. They make me happy to remember the old days.

Susan, on that trip, I nearly did Luna. I left it for another trip, but was so tempted to go for it. It would have added just 1 additional day.

Thank John. I usually climb on my own if it is reasonable, and the weather was iffy, but held that day!

Another exceptional adventure Randy, loved it man! On one of your next climbs when you sleep over night can you show us how the stars look out there, i’m sure they’re amazing. Look forward to the next video, take care my friend. 🙏🏻😎

I was out a couple of days ago, during a new moon. Being dark the stars were brilliant. Unfortunately, I was only going to get 4-5 hours of sleep for a few days and just looked at the stars, not willing to pull out my camper and capture; then went back into my tiredness-coma. Perhaps I can get some photos on my next climb.

Thank you Zogador. I tried Challenger a couple of years ago and got bad weather. It was very nice that the weather held out for me, on that day.

Hi Annie. I am doing well. 2020 was/is a different year. I do like adventure and this video was mostly an adventure because the weather was iffy. I would have been very frustrated if I was stormed off this summit again, like I was stormed off 2 years before. .... I think the inclement weather for this area is typical and the climber has to decide to either climb and risk it, or go home.

Another 5 star video, Randy! I really appreciate the time you take to point out the surrounding peaks and the time you take to photograph and film flowers and waterfalls. Especially when doing so cuts into your day's ambitious march. Have to watch again soon but now it is bedtime. Thanks again!

Thanks Joel. I was very happy to bag this peak. The weather started to degrade and it was like a flashback to a couple of years ago, when I was stormed off Challenger.

Awesome! You sure cover a lot of ground in a day. Took me two days to go from Hannegan trailhead to Whatcom pass. :)

When I travel alone, I don't have to stop as much, I take breaks only when I need to and go light. It is not difficult to cover 2-3 times the distance from those loaded down with weight, having to stop frequently...
