Climbing has become a fairly big sport, and it is not surprising that even world-famous people in various subjects also climb! ⚡ I had the pleasure to climb with Jo Nesbo, an excellent writer of novels who started climbing only 10 years and in his 60s, he is very close to reaching grade 8a! I took him to a special place close to my hometown called Pálava (Moravian region, Czechia), where steep limestone cliffs go from the vineyards.
We climbed a multi-pitch route together, which happened to be his first multi-pitch ever which was a big honor for me. Jo is one of those guys that you feel very comfortable with from the first word, and Jo is a great example that you can be a total climbing freak yet still very successful in a completely different career. Climbing is the best sport, isn't it?

Did not see this crossover coming at all, but I love it! Interesting to hear Jo talk about his mental process in climbing, and it really feels a lot like my own fascination spark with climbing - being exposed to fear while knowing you are safe really allows you to look at your own mental process. It's really that combination of doing something challenging in the physical domain, cognitive domain (the challenge of reading etc.) and in emotion-regulation which is the thrill of climbing for me. Such an optimal challenge and only against yourself and the rock, it really allows easy access to flowstate and feelings of competence when you work with the fear. Really good, thanks Adam and Jo!

I simply love Jo's writing work and now that I see that he has a deep passion for climbing I can kinda see why. The way he can keep and release tension in his writing is sublime, and now that I am recently becoming passionate about climbing I can see how this mirrors into the climbing (or even hiking in a way) experience: the constant absolutely safe step forward, immediately followed by some deep thought about the next one. What a great video Adam, thank you so much!

Wow amazing insight which totally share. Though now I am more into sport climbing and more focus on the grade, the best memories come from the first times and the fear and adventure associated to it. I started doing a free solo almost by accident, I thought that I could climb a slab over sea and rocks below . It was all after watching Silvester Stalone climbing movie. So the conclusion, climbing is fun but imitating Hollywood movies can bring you problems.hajaha. thanks Adam.

Whatever he have decided to pursue, he has always managed to become one of the very best at it.
