Well can relate to this. I had chronic psoriasis for 40 years. Tried many different pharmaceuticals and nothing really worked that well. The coal tar baths were awful and the steriod creams thinned my skin. About 12 years ago I decided enough was enough and decided on experimenting with the natural route. My doctor said it would be a waste of time and money. I ignored him. First thing I did was try to identify triggers (things that made my patches more itchy) and realized that things like excessive sugar intake, wheat, red meat, deep fried foods, tomatoes, dairy (particularly cheese) and peanutbutter were rather inflammatory for me. Then I started an anti-inflammatory diet. Swapped my cola for freshly made carrot juices every day, and watched what I ate. Started also taking supplements daily too being Fish Oil, Zinc and Vitamin D3. Also started to do yoga to manage my stress levels and stopped using chemical skin care products. Did this all daily and within one year (it was about 8 months) every single trace of psoriasis cleared up and vanished. I have been managing and maintaining clearance pretty much ever since. 😄 To say my doctor is absolutely gobsmacked would be an understatement.

@@gutology - Well it comes down to ultimately MY choices and MY personal responsibility. I would much rather forgo cola to have clear skin......than still be on the merry-go-round of doctors and dermatologists. Certainly worth the "sacrifice". Used to be addicted to cola and sugar in general. Last cola I had was January 2008, and I was totally clear of psoriasis by September that same year. Been clear pretty much ever since. Thanks for an excellent interview. EDIT: Edited as some people seem to be misinterpreting

The good thing about having psoriasis is that it serves as a warning that something isn't right with your gut health. Most people don't get this warning sign and spend most of their lives with bad gut health, ultimately contributing to far more serious conditions. We should consider ourselves lucky that our bodies give us this warning, prompting us to actually do something about it.

She is right. I have psoriasis. I cut out gluten (and I mean totally), reduced alcohol intake to a treat on a Friday night, stopped smoking (but still have a nicotine inhaler stick thing), exercise more, drink plenty of water, get good sleep, eat anti inflammatory foods, avoid inflammatory foods, fast for at least one day a week, try to eat one meal a day, I do not eat meat but do eat fish. Blueberries seem to help. Turmeric helps. Psoriasis almost gone.

After suffering from Psoriasis for about 8 years covering my chest and spread throughout my entire back. My own personal method of clearing all of my scales within a week (not joking) was to implement a keto diet, I ate one large meal a day: 2 Turkey burgers Large portion of Spinach Large portion of brocoli and fasted in between this. Took the supplement l-glutamine mixed with water (80g a day fot first five days) then reducing to 20g a day.

And the websites I checked said nothing about gluten, until I came across a dr Eric berg video. With all autoimmune diseases like psoriasis there's an element of chronic stress (chronic means over time) and to make a permanent change then you must also deal with that. Then a lifestyle change will be required to make a permanent change. For example PTSD (an extreme form of chronic stress condition is known to change genes in how they are expressed aka epigenetics.

I agree with you that most of immune problems are related to gut, one way to know is to monitor the T cells activity as not all the time people with gluten sensitivity will have positive antibody. But the presence of gene factors and the activity of T cells will show it clearly. Thank you

I have tried so many different diets to control my psoriasis. This is what worked for me. I don't expect this to work for everyone. (1) Intermittent fasting - Trying to go 24 hours without food at least 2-3 per week - 6:00 pm to 6:00 pm the next day. Honestly , i get as far in as 20-22 hours and i have to eat. (2) Break fast from intermittent fasting with salad and keto foods. (this is a cheap way to get Keto benefits without going 100% keto) (3) No refined sugar. No cakes , no cookies, no chocolates. I only consume sugar from raw fruit . I do eat cake and stuff on special occasion or once per week. (4) my doctor gave me folic acid, and that helped a lot. (5) improving my oral health helped a lot. I started eating 1 clove of raw garlic before going to sleep and this helped a lot. (6) I eliminated grain oils from my diet. I only use avocado , coconut and olive oil. If I consume soy oil or canola it is because I'm eating out. (7) I lost 10 pounds , from the no sugar and intermittent fasting. I also added some exercise by just doing body weight exercises at home. NB - I live in the tropics , and natural vitamin D is not an issue for me.

When I met my first husband at age 18 my psoriasis got worst as my relationship got worst. When I met husband two at 21 my psoriasis started to go away but not completely. I was with him for 16 years before he passed away. When I met husband three my psoriasis went completely away within three months. I was finally psoriasis free by the age of 37. Bottom line psoriasis is directly linked to emotions

Totally cleared mine (had all over body) is in the gut but is my thought caused by a microbe of some sort as started with it whilst on holiday in Tunisia., in an area where very common. never had it before and no family history. Bathed with lots of bicarb in water, drank ginger root tea, one cup in morning and another sipped through the day. Cut out bread and nightshades. Yeast. This includes some fruits that hold yeast ie dried fruits, melons (but water melon seemed to be ok) Have a sweet tooth so still treated myself to that with homemade cakes/biscuits and dark chocolate. Have the odd glass of wine and in summer a gin and tonic.. I am currently living in Spain and found the sun did not help at all, in fact would go worse. Following this regime, it cleared within 2 months and had for many years. Every body is unique, and different people will have different triggers....and probably different causes for onset.

It is true that stress, sugar, and eating lots of gluten certainly are triggers (among others) for psoriasis. However, I want to note that improving these does not guarantee you will treat your psoriasis. They can help, but I feel like I tried everything in the damn book for a natural cleansing of psoriasis and I still couldn't solve it. I take my diet/nutrition very seriously. It wasn't until I got on a biologic that I was finally able to improve. Psoriasis is still a mystery to so many. I only ask that people do not be ignorant and assume that Psoriasis is only a result of someone not taking care of themselves. It's more complicated than that.

I have not seen any doctor to seek help for my scalp issues yet and my scalp issues became so much worse lately. From having dandruff then i realised it starting to develop scale like skin on the sides. Went to seek treatment at a chinese hair salon thinking it was dandruff , they mentioned its eczema but i found out myself its psoriasis. I had it on my chest too small patches. Its itchy especially on the scalp. I did some research myself, its definitely link to gut health issues. Auto-immune disease, few years back i went for blood test. Doc mentioned that my blood platelets count are very high. Abnormal. So he refer me to seek specialist and i did went to the polyclinic but the doctor said it wasnt anything serious (cos im still young). I didnt do anything other than eating vitamins , probiotics. It did improve by lessen my problem of easily having diarrhea. Then lately, my scalp became so itchy. It spread to the back of my ears and my neck. On my chest. I also have knee pain. I believe that this is all connected.

I began supplementing Vitamin D3 over the course of the course of the COVID pandemic (along with K2 as MK-7) as well as eliminating refined sugar to address hyperinsulinemia & metabolic syndrome, and have since experienced the first full clearing of my psoriasis, since being diagnosed over thirty years ago. I cannot draw a clear conclusion, regarding which changes were most important, however I believe that all contributed. I have also been supplementing various other nutrients such as cod liver oil (A, D & omega-3 FA's) and B complex (B-100 formulation originally, now B-50.) By temporarily adopting a ketogenic diet, I lost approximately 25 lbs over the course of three months (lowering my BMI to 25.2) and, after gearing up slightly to a more viable low-carb diet combined with intermittent fasting (4-hr meal window,) I've had no trouble keeping that weight off. I regard keto to be invaluable as a therapeutic intervention -- but impractical at best, as a lifestyle diet. I am uncertain as to whether weight loss contributed to my clearing. If anything, I believe that improving vitamin D status and lowering insulin levels helped lessen inflammation overall, and that this in turn improved my psoriasis. I recently had a slight flare that, after much head-scratching, I've concluded must've been caused by the Pfizer COVID booster. Interestingly, only lesions on the injection side of my body flared up. My hunch is that the vaccination goosed my immune system, causing vitamin D to deplete more rapidly. To hopefully counter this, I am taking 30,000 IU D3 + 300mcg K2 (as MK-7) for three days. (I do not take D3 supplements daily, as I consume appreciable amounts of eggs, salmon & kippers, as well as spending as much time shirtless, outdoors, as possible.)

Thank you for good explanations! BUT.....I really want to add something to the talk about gut health. As the gut is our second brain, we have to understand witch part of the brain that is connected to the issue. Everyone I have met always has a back ground history. Our thoughts and minds are expressed throughout our body. Often dominant parents, beeing rejected from someone you love, not being able to speak your mind. And ...of Courteney you need to have all the nutricion to help the body to NOT attac itself. I would be delighted to get a respond from you. Sincerely Maria

Yes Leaky gut is the cause of psoriasis (not a skin problem) and yes, and it's not good for your health to suppress the immune response, as it lets in the toxins into the blood. Homeopathy goes one step deeper, which to deal with the psychosomatic reason (stress due to overthinking) of leaky gut. The typical mind-set is variations of self-blame, over-responsibility, inner-critic, perfectionist which tends to be a genetic predisposition. (The gut is known as the second brain, so reflects how the brain processes life.)

@@a_william yes I can’t give you specific books (i’ve been a homoeopath over 25 years and it’s just general understanding that I’ve picked up whilst studying and treating people) if you look up homeopathic constitutional types such as Platina and ignatia you start to see the examples of these mindsets. These remedies will help to eliminate these unconscious programmed states when they exist in the person. This then enables the body to heal.

it all connected, cortisol over production over extensive periods triggered by stressful emotional event. when cortisol is elevated it promoytes blood sugar production to feed the brain, thats why people with psoriasis tend to overthink or are over alert. the side effects are low immune response , minimize healing , low bile salsts that leads to digetsive issues.,leaky gut, SIBO, propne to fongus infections. its all avicious cycle.

But I do notice the more stressful the situation the worst it gets. My life would have been so much a happier one if these meds had been around when I was younger. Eat healthy of course. But it doesn't help get rid of psoriasis. I was typing my comment when an ad for ilumya poped up. It's a better life without psoriasis. Don't suffer. Talk to your Dr about the treatment. You don't have to go to a dermatologist, your primary care Dr can prescribe and give you the shot every 3 months. No more tanning beds, baking myself in the sun. Long sleeves and pants in the summer. Live life free and happy. Don't miss one day. This short time we have called life doesn't have the time for this debilitating embarrassing disease.

I agree doctors DO NOT know what causes Psoriasis! they all read from the same text books. A professor called "Tullion Simonicini" claims that Psoriasis is actually a fungal issue and he has been researching Psoriasis for some time and he recommends Iodine as Iodine has great anti-fungal properties. He also stated that you wont get told this because it does not help big pharma which makes sence. I have a few Psoriasis patches on my skalp.. I have been using steroid creams for years on them but they always come back when i stop using them. Also steroid creams actually do more harm then good because they make the skin thinner which means it will be more prone to infections, Psoriasis and contact dermatitis. I've just started taking Iodine and Vitamin D3 supplements to see if it helps clear things up.. D3 i've heard many people say it helps you just have to make sure you get a high IU. The D3 im tryin are soft gel caps with 10,000 IU. Im a practicing Buddhist & a Vegetarian so can't take cod liver oil which again is suppose to be good for Psoriasis. I have lost about 3 stone I only eat fresh fruit and veg, i dont drink or smoke.. I did smoke but i quit about 20 years ago. I do yoga and kickboxing and try to live a healthy life but yet im still plagued with this Psoriasis. I totally agree with Mr lee here.. its not autoimmune thats just what all the doctors repeat like chinese whispers - the truth is THEY DONT KNOW what causes it but again MR Lee hits the nail on the head with "fungal or bacterial". I also think that some people might not have Psoriasis but instead may have contact dermatitis. Both can get very itchy and extremely uncomfortable. Most of us use cleaning products to some degree and most of use dont wear gloves when using these products. The chemicals in these products get absorbed through the skin. These include: Washing up liquids, detergents and conditioners from washing cloths which we then wear, deodorants which some contain aluminium which has ties to the cause of dementia because it clogs and cant be removed from the brain. moisturisers, make-up.. and one of the worst things to use is anti-bacterial products because they kill all the good bacteria on your skin. We need to go back to basics and start paying more attention to whats in products we put on our skin! Washing too often again causes all the good bacteria to be removed leaving skin wide open to attack. FInally - If you cant put it in your body, dont put it on your body, its really that simple!!! I hope those who do suffer with Psoriasis find peace from it.

Leaky gut does not explain localized psoriasis flares, it mostly explains general inflammation. However reducing overall systemic inflamation does help. For example, in my case, reducing carbohydrate intake helps reduce inflammation all over my body. I have guttate psoriasis just on my shins alone. I have found that exposing my shins to sunlight can help clear the skin. During the pandemic, staying at home reduced my exposure to sunlight, so my skin flared up. My legs are the part of my body which is less exposed to sunlight, which also happens to be the place were I developed the rash. There must be a link between vitamin D deficiency and psoriasis, at tissue level (skin) first due to privation of exposure to UV light, and secondary a vitamin D malapsorbtion at the gut level. Vitamin D deficiency being a possible trigger for flares. It's the individuals who cannot absorb vitamin D at gut level those who develop body wide rashes, but sunlight deprived individuals those who developed localized psoriasis.

Question. I have psoriasis on my scalp, been on a whole food plant based lifestyle for a month and a half and have already seen major improvement in other aspect of my health, including my lifelong battle with acne! However, my psoriasis is still persisting, although it has improved. I’m not as itchy as I used to be, but the psoriasis is still coming. I eat fruit in the morning and afternoon, and here comes my question. Could the sugars from fruit irritate psoriasis, even if you’re on a Whole Foods plant based diet? Thank you so much and God bless you all. 🕊 🙏🏽

Yes it will destroy your gut, and when the gut is impaired, psoriasis will b rlly bad along with digestive isssues such as Candida overgrowth which is common in psoriasis.

Psoriasis has no cure. The only treatment that improves the skin are biological treatments, a type of systemic drugs, created using molecular biology techniques, and which resemble human proteins, specifically immunoglobulins or antibodies. This group of drugs act specifically by blocking different molecules that are involved in inflammation.

I feel my birth control did this to me. I have bad stomach issues and I’ve heard BC causes leaky gut. I also have psoriasis now too.

I’m having the same issues as you were talking about the teacher. I have in on most of my body. I’m 34 & I’ve had it since I was 18. I have severe inflammation pain especially in my back. The psoriasis is mostly on my elbow knees and knuckles but there are spot all over. My dermatologist gave me a topical cream halobetasol ointment and it doesn’t do anything and they told me it’s the strongest prescription they could give me. I have big boobs so it’s now causing fungal rashes where the bra lining. I’ve just had enough with psoriasis and I’m at the point I do not know what to do. I’ve tried working out cutting out gluten. Nothing works!!

I have psoriasis for almost 11 years since 22 yo. It worsen after i had GERD. I consume diluted arrowroot flour to reduce my GERD but turn out it cleared my psoriasis a little. I read that arrowroot is prebiotic. But, it really needs long time just to remove one little spot in my skin. Recently, i knew that psoriasis related to gut health. Now, i try to eat a lot of veggies and fruits, sunbathing, consume arrowroot and probiotic like yogurt and tempeh, add vitamin c, b complex, and d, also trying wet cup therapy. Not seen the result yet, but i hope i can have the positive results in future.

Parkinsons is being linked to poor gut health. I read this more and more. What we are learning now about gut health is incredible, we are on the verge of new thinking about health in general. All around us are harmful foods and the more research is done the more food companies will be either adjusting or failing.
