I think you'll find that Eddie Howe was never in danger of losing his job because the owners know his class and the injury situation and the over reach last year to get Champions league. We shouldn't have been getting European football really until maybe next season.

Parts of the Newcastle fan base were the only ones ever mentioning Howe leaving, despite all the challenges he's had, which is mad!

Just so everyone’s aware, I don’t know a single NUFC fan that thought Eddie should go at any point in the season.

There were murmurs when you were going through that rough patch earlier in the season. Also, I think there's added pressure and higher expectations off the back of last season and under this ownership with the allure that you have, I don't think it would be exactly surprising to some if they opted for a "bigger name" than Eddie Howe. It's great to see Howe getting the credit for the job he's done and it'll be interesting to see what direction you go in the summer with recruitment.

Despite having the worst injury record in PL history, they're only 9 points down from last year.

And some massive results this season too, despite everything. Looking back it should be considered an important season in Newcastle's growth, really impressive

It’s crazy, Newcastle actually have a full first team 11 injured/out Pope (gk) Tripper/botman/lacelles/targett (defenders) Almiron/joelinton/willock/Tonali/ Miley (midfield) Wilson (striker) A full first team you ‘could’ play

Spurs next 3 games : Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool. Newcastle's next 3 games : Palace, Sheff Utd, Burnley. Could Newcastle be only 1 point behind after the next 3 games ? I expect Newcastle will drop at least a couple of points and Spurs will probably get at least 1 or 2 but stranger things have happened. Still a possibility that 5th place gets champions league too. Would be an amazing achievement if Newcastle could qualify again despite having European football added to their calendar and masses of injuries all season.

Certainly a winnable run of fixtures for Newcastle. Spurs on the other hand have a really tricky run. It could be a really interesting end to the season and decided by a point or two. I think it's a positive season for Newcastle considering the obstacles they've faced this season with injuries, Tonali fiasco etc. The problem is you had such a good season last year, that this year was always gonna be difficult to manage expectations.

It would be an absolute miracle if we managed a CL place finish considering the injuries and id love to see it but lets not forget how poor we were in the two games before Tottenham.

@@FootballDiaryPodcastmedia expectations NOT ours , we always knew our squad, 8 of whom had fought for us in the championship under Trashley's cancerous ownership, was too thin to cope with the CL (although it was a wrong lying awarded penalty that caused us go out in Paris) and the PL, In March we had over 300 more days of injury, almost 1400 days in total, than the next nearest club ! We'll strengthen in summer , never fear 😅

Good comments. However, a few things. Isak scores against big teams and big games? Are we sure!? Who? When!? 1 goal in Europe in 5 games he played which was a rebound in Paris. 3 shots on average a game. 6 pens this season. 🤷‍♂️ it’s really fab but it’s not also. We lack being clinical when it matters and this puts and slams pressure on a depleted team. Murphy came back, barnes, gave us options we ain’t had since we mailed Sheffield u 8-0. Wilson our top scorer last season along with miggy, 🤦🏻‍♂️ Wilson hasn’t been fit since we drew with wolves 2-2 in our first ten games of the season, and miggy can’t hit a barn door this year. We’ve lost our best players in my view this season when it counted. Pope. Puts pressure on our defence hin not being around. Martin made saves but cost us. We lost botman who was awful when he played considering last season. We lost willock who hasn’t been right since. And we lost Joelinton who dominates every game he plays he started 3 games and scored 3! Before injury. And we lost the highest assisted in Europe at the time trippier. Top that off with Wilson. So we didn’t have options. We ran on empty and our fans took it out on the manager. Now the issue is here, Kieran and Wilson are heavily linked with moves away and both almost moved away in Jan. It’s the pundits and local media and fans that have almost wrecked our season. But we always come good end of season no matter whatcalendar year and I knew we’d hit sone form. No one has ever had more injuries than us in one season. Or half a season for that matter. But I disagree. I think Europa leavue is good for us. But if it’s conference that’s a step down from where we were. What we need in the summer is options. Not youngsters and not Lewis bloody Miley! Options! Because Isak is quality but there’s no way (24 I know) that he’s that loyal or that good!

You'll definitely invest in the summer but it's gotta be right people, right price. I think navigating this injury crisis is one of the biggest achievements of Eddie Howe's career. It's mad you're looking at European qualification!

@@FootballDiaryPodcast but you don’t know we will invest lol. Nor does anyone else, they assume. They’ve always assumed. When we have players back, if no one leaves (and I doubt they’ll all stay) but we won’t have the room and a lot depends on if we keep Longstaff and if tonali can play, if so, we won’t bring in a midfielder cos we don’t have the space at all! In defence, shifting burn to centre half, keeping krafth, but getting rid of dummett but then thinking of splashing all that cash on hall (daft) then possibly yeh a centre half and hoefully not Lloyd Kelly! But then I can’t see us getting a huge signing at the back cos at some point as I said tonali will be back the players we’ve lost will be back and Sven and Jamaal will half way through next season. Then there’s this left back thing. Erm target is in eddies plans. Hall could join. So nope no space there either. Right back, we have tino, Kieran might stay, sooo nope no right back. Etc etc etc… No body knows who or what we will invest and they’ll he surprises and a lot of transfer talk as always from our stupid local media. Europe isn’t a shock. The conference leavue is the most likely but based on what happened to West Ham last season and Brighton this season, we really do not want conference league. And for Europa league we will need more quality not quantity. If you look back on our results, our draws and wins, and the fact we have the likes of palace (who I always knew would pull through) and Brentford (who score goals!!) and Sheff u and Burnley, then overall with the wins this season and sheer amount of goals we’ve scored and the bad games others around us have, then no it’s not a shock if we get Europe . We’ve not been as bad in those defeats as people think we have. Besides a few.
