Enduring Activity: Clinical Updates in Alzheimer’s Disease Symposium - Neuroimaging in the Diagnostic Work-up of Dementia
Target Audience
This activity is targeted toward physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses and other clinicians.
Statement of Need
In the care of patients, memory is not always addressed as an integral part of the patient exam unless there is a complaint of memory loss. Therefore, identification of patients with memory loss often is identified later in the course of dementia. This program will equip primary care providers with knowledge of basic cognitive screening tests and brain imaging to identify patients who would benefit from specialized treatment. This would result in earlier diagnosis and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to:
• Discuss the role of neuroimaging in the evaluation of Alzheimer’s Disease
• Describe visual rating scales useful for assessing brain structures/atrophy
• Identify key brain regions commonly affected in Alzheimer’s Disease
• Recognize MRI findings in atypical presentations of Alzheimer’s Disease
• Review the role of FDG-PET in the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease
