Wife of a 35 year UPS employee. They train their drivers to back into parking spaces or pull through because backing into a fixed space is preferable to backing out into traffic. It's all about reducing risk.

^^THIS^^ I have an older car, without a backup camera. So many people walk behind my car despite my hitting the horn twice to get people's attention, (they used to teach it in driver's ed) and they don't even hesitate to see what's going on, this includes folks with small kids in tow. IDK if they are distracted or think it's all my responsibility (peds and drivers share responsibility) but people are just checked out.

It’s generally easier to back a truck in! The rear wheels are a fixed pivot point and they can “cut the corner” more sharply than the front end, so you don’t have to worry as much about swinging around. It’s also a lot safer for other people the parking lot; where we sit in relation to the length of the vehicle means that, no matter how slowly and carefully you back out of a spot, there are blind spots and the likelihood of backing into something is increased. Improved visibility protects me and other drivers. ❤

As a professional Truck Driver, my husband will sometimes back in to spots because it’s actually safer for when you go to exit your parking spot. Looking forward rather than having to look back, which is unnatural especially in a high traffic area. A lot of professional drivers are TRAINED to back into a parking place first. It’s a SAFETY aspect they teach.

I rarely comment, but you hit a nerve! As someone who drives a full-size pick up truck, I can assure you it is absolutely safer for us to back in. When you arrive at a parking lot, you can visually see who is around you and safely back into a spot. When you leave a spot, it is far safer to be able to pull out than it is to back out as there are large blind spots in the extended cabs and the height alone makes it challenging to see a child who may run behind you. Also, I do live in a cold climate, and it's far more difficult to get a jump on your battery if you are pulled into a spot. It's also easier to push through a snowbank that may have been plowed in front of you when exiting a spot. Please believe me when I say, it's not about being "cool", it's safe & smart!

STRAWBEERY PRETZEL SALAD is soooo good ! 🍓🍓 I used to make it back in the day, and I’m a Midwest girl (IL), transplanted in NV. I’ve also noticed more people backing into parking spots. What’s up with that ?! Kinda irritating when you want to leave and have to wait for them to slowly back in. 🤷‍♀️

I live in the outskirts of Chicago and I learned about Frog Eye salad about eight years ago. It is made with a pasta called Ancini de Pepe. I love the strawberry pretzel salad! What a yummy combination of flavors. Something about the sweet and salty combination with the cream cheese filling-yum! Great video today, Dr. Dray!

I don't back in any where, I do try to find spots where I can pull through. If not I just pull in, but I also park far out in parking lots where no one wants to park. Now my hubby backs in just about every where we go.

You shop like me! 🎉it’s distressing, it’s like a museum but also dangerous if you spend too much. Yesterday, I went to Ulta, Dollar tree, Lowe’s, a se was planning on going to more stores but I had to make it short. My new fun thing is furniture stores and taking measurements and pictures to vote and decide what can fit in my room 😂

Northerners here. With the snow ❄️ and ice 🧊 we have up here in the Midwest. It's easier and safer to back up into a space so you can drive forward in the snow. Plus for just plain old safety reasons it's easier to jump a car or pull directly out of a space.

I don't drive a truck, but backing in has always been easier for me than the other way, especially since my car has a backup camera and not a front camera. Plus, it's much safer when you're leaving as you can see the other cars coming through.

It's important to hydrate in Texas. I think it is fine if events don't allow outside beverages, but then they should either have coolers where people can fill up their empty water bottles (which some do), or sell bottled water AT COST.

I drive a big 4 door truck and LOVE to back into parking spots! My truck has 10 cameras on it, sensors on the front and back and a big screen on the dash. I love honing my backing skills! I have a trailer that I pull my Polaris Ranger on and this has made hitching the trailer to the back of the truck easier as well! I'm a farmer and have been driving a truck for years! Not trying to be dramatic, just keeping my skills sharp!

Driving out of a parking place in a large truck is much easier than backing out of it. My father was a Houston police officer, he said backing in was safer because if someone approached me as I exited or entered the car I had a better field of vision on which way to turn as I drove out of the parking place.

If not specifically indicated otherwise, everyone should definitely back into parking spaces because when you're ready to leave, you can see exactly where you're going. This helps you spot any children, pets, or other obstacles that you might not see otherwise.

I don’t drive a truck but I do back into parking spaces, about 95% of the time. When I was a kid there was some, building that had mandatory reverse parking. When I asked why. It was something related to emergency/safety plan. I did not drive yet, but it stuck with me. I don’t remember the details though. Maybe it never happened but, my brain thinks it did. 😂 Anyway, with years of reverse parking I noticed that being able to see when you are pulling out seems safer than getting in fast but having to reverse onto moving traffic and pedestrians, with a limited view. The maneuvers to get in, happen outside of the parking space and in clear view, given that you wouldn’t have two massive trucks blocking the view. I swear I’m a fun person, not at all boring. 😂 LOLOLOLOL I just heard the whole parking story 😂

Yes, it's easier to back into tight spaces because you have your cameras. Sometimes I cannot pull into a space because I can't judge where my right front fender is. Especially if a car is lower than mine on the right side. Since everyone now has cameras, it's much better.

As to the parking, with almost everyone using backup cameras, it's much easier to back in. On the other hand, when parked along a curb, people with backup cams are inclined to park way too close to the car behind them. 😕

When I was still working, ALL of my coworkers (almost all men) backed into their parking spots in the garage. They all drove company cars that were almost all SUV's. I figured it was just a guy thing. I agree with you about bath bombs. I am pretty much a shower person. The only time I really took a bath rather than shower was after some surgery where I had to soak in some epsom salt water. I love my planner. I started using one when I was working and I put everything on it. Mine has monthly along with a weekly planner and places for notes. I love office/school supplies. Don't need as much anymore but I love shopping for them.

I agree that July seems too early to put out school supplies (what a bummer reminder for kids trying to enjoy their summer LOL), but in some places classes start back up in August (mid-August in my city). For families with several children and especially if they're on a tight budget, it gives the parents time to buy all the needed supplies a little at a time, I think, so the sooner they begin, the better. I've lived in a part of the country that gets triple-digit temperatures from late spring to around early fall all my life, and while you have to learn to live with it, there's really no getting acclimated--meaning, you're going to want and need the AC 24/7. And once you get to my age and are dealing with hot flashes--forget it! 😂😂 Walking from my car to inside stores or buildings, taking out the trash and bringing the bin back in after it's been picked up--those are examples of times I'll be outdoors in the heat. Otherwise, no. 😂 The backing up into parking spaces--I think everyone's done a good job of explaining why some choose to do so (although, in the situation you explained, with the parking lot being empty, I'll agree it didn't make much sense). Also, some lots are small and the parking spots are just very tight; I can think of several doctors' offices around town, for example, where pulling out in the "normal" way (in reverse) makes it very difficult.

Backing in allows you to exit your parking space going forward which helps avoid getting hit while backing out-if that happens you are at fault. Happened to me. I actually look for 2 empty spaces so I can just drive through so I’m facing forward lol.

I also get extra exercise by walking the added distance. *I am a school supply junkie- pens, notebooks, markers, glue sticks, wite-out, folders- & I havent been to school in decades. * all the rants in today's video had me rolling .....the 'crud' in the pumps... *no frog eye salad in my Midwest State! No snicker salad. No strawberry pretzel salads.
