This beautiful craft was designed by Andrew Wolstenholme and brought to life by Wayne Avery, a renowned Auckland boat builder.
The dimensions are
Length = 14 Feet 6 Inches or 4.45 Meters
Beam = 5 Feet 6 Inches or 1.8 Meters
Draft = 7 Inches and a half or 190mm
It was built over the covid lockdown period and was completed in 2023.
As you will see, this is a DISPLACEMENT hull providing grace and strength.
The Dinghy construction consists of 20 planks of 6mm French Gaboon Marine plywood. Each plank has a 20mm wide bevelled edge that provides ample gluing surfaces for the epoxy joints.
The backbone (Keel) stem and gunwale are made from Sapele Mahogany; the Gunwale has an inlay of pencil Cedar while the watertight seats have 4 separate watertight compartments.
The seats comprise of 6mm ply overlaid with 6mm oak and the inlay crafted from Jarrah timber.
The stated floorboards are in 4 sections held down with turn buttons.
The gunwale belting has a 16mm rope insert to protect the brightwork from fishing line or rubbing against a jetty
The watertight compartments are completely coated in epoxy resin, as is the inside and outside of the hull. It was then coated with Carboline Epoxy undercoated with Altex Elite Polyurethane white topcoat.
The galvanised Trailer was built in 2023 by Towrex.
The engine is a 6HP 4 Stroke Yamaha long shaft which was bought 29/11/2022. It has a 4-year warranty, transferrable. While a two and a half hp engine is specified for the dinghy, The 6HP provides an element of safety if rough weather or strong winds prevail while on the water.
Awlwood J3890 ( full Coats) on all brightwork.
No expense was spared in this build and one can easily see it lasting for many many years to come.
