Former United States Secret Service agent Clint Hill discusses his recent historical narrative titled "Mrs. Kennedy and Me." Hill describes the period of time he was assigned to guard Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy, wife of John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States. His protective detail assignment begins shortly after Kennedy's election as President in November 1960, until after the election of Lyndon Johnson in 1964.

I ABSOLUTELY love Mr. Hill. Out of ALL the agents & law enforcement there that day, Mr. Hill was the ONLY one to re-act, THE ONLY ONE. !! I have every book he has ever written. Did y'all know he was given up for adoption at 3 months. But I feel it was more an act of love on his mother's part. Do not forget, it was at the time of the Great Depressionwhen for a child to exist, often meant being placed in a home, where the parents could be sure the child would have a steady supply of food. There should be a medal called the "Clint Hill medal for bravery". Some kind of acknowledment for a life well lived. He is the MOST brutally honest, decent, compassionate and most of all, the MOST discreet man who has walked this planet. To know where he worked & for whom, you KNOW this man could, no doubt write a tome about secrets.....But NOT this man, EVER. DISCREET, DECENT & BRUTALLY HONEST !!! I LOVE YOU, MR. HILL !!!

But they did fall short immensely on the fateful day in Dealy Plaza. . . missing a building that was recognizable even to a 14-year-old as clearly perhaps the most dangerous for a President to pass by between D,C. and . . . anywhere. The SS had really improved its its act by some five tears later--even scoping out the appearance of a rifle entering a moving van some 16 miles away a matter of days before the President was to be in town. The problem in '63 was that basic things that should have been recognized and have caused the TSD to be locked down were not. For one, there was virtually no hazard prior to Houston Street because the parade was not out to high-skill, white collar areas until Dealy, I still regret not advising the SS of what I feared, but an ignorant anti-Catholic--following mindlessly after her virulent anti-Catholic father in St. Louis decades before would have stymied any such attempt by just a kid like this one.

Mr. Hill, to me, you are a wonderful person. Looking back at the tapes of the assassination, have you ever noticed that of all the people around the president and Mrs. Kennedy, you were the only person who responded in any way towards the event. I've heard that you felt that you failed. I don't see it that way at all. Jackie survived. She was your assignment. You will always be a hero to me. I know that you've struggled terribly over the years. I hope that you will have the deep peace that only God gives. Well done good and faithful servant.

He loved her for sure - but then, who didn't. I've read countless books now, and all JFK's friends loved Jackie. Apparently, though shy, she was funny and fun to be with when she liked you. Even though she was cheap with salary, she had moments of great affection for all who worked for her, and as many said, really charmed the guys. JFK charmed both sexes also. Great book. Loved the stories of the Kennedy's escaping the Secret Service.

I'm 61 in 2023 and all of my life I had a great deal of respect for the persons from this generation.. Can you imagine who their parents must have been. We are so modern now..lately the world has become very divided. Very interesting times.. Almost impossible to conceive how much the numerous factors that influence people are effecting a history that we are now living. I'm speaking culturally, politically, foreign affairs, and family amount so many other institutions.. Something feels like its moving too fast..I feel very concerned. I think everyone has more in common than not uncommon; especially, things that make us humane and things that matter.. Everyone has become so fearful of certain others.. Like if society collapsed it would be like madmax. I hope that's not how it would be..I do believe that decent people would have to defend themselves against others who may be more angry and violent. Ok. How did I get to this point? Oh yeah; things are changing so fast.

Just think And now we have a tank that the President rides in as a result. We can't blame Clint Hill at all. It's all speculation that if he acted a microsecond faster, things would have been different. Even if Hill didn't slip as he tried to jump on the back of the vehicle carrying President Kennedy, would that have made any significant difference? The Secret Service was understaffed with newbies. Did nobody foresee the danger of the President riding in a convertible car with no protection? Back in the 60s, it was unheard of. But that does not forgive the planning needed because the event was foreseeable. It took the Kennedy assassination to get to the point for the protection needed to oversee the President as of today. It may cost millions every time the President leaves the White House, but what are the alternatives?

In their minds the dangerous part of the motorcade was already over. They were going to make a left turn then get on the highway. The bigger danger to them were people approaching the limo from the packed streets. Next time you're next to two Harley motors. Motors which were echoing off the buildings and structures around them, that you'd clearly be able to hear a gunshot, and from where. Once Oswald decided to do the deed, there wasn't much they could do.

President Kennedy wore a back brace so hard and wrapped in ace bandages, it was impossible for him to bend or slump. If he had been able too, it might have saved his life.

I can't understand why anyone would discredit Clint Hill like I see that some do in their comments?? He was THERE, he's a fountain of information, he's not done anything wrong!?! Remember, we're the ones that's asking for info, right? Why shouldn't he tell his story, and get paid, since we're asking??? Clint Hill is only human, and doesen't act any different than all of us would do if we were in his shoes back in 1963.....you know the date!!!!

Clint Hill was one of the good ones... Jackie didn't want to go to Texas...but needed to go because Jack was beginning his run for 64... She requested Clint to again be her personal guard...she secretly smoked cigarettes and bummed them from Clint, they would smoke together as smokers do form a bond with one another....she probably smoked quite a few after that trip...Clint was infatuated with Jackie, not hard to do. This information came from Jack's secretary Evelyn Lincoln...

The secret service definitely phoned it in that day. Surely someone should have realised when all of the usual layers of security were systematically and publicly stripped away. If I were blaming anyone it'd be the Detail.

Interesting interview, but trod very lightly on the assassination.A question that i would have liked ask him concerns the activities of the secret service detail on the eve of the assassination. In a couple of documentaries the detail are said to be partying in a night club True or false and was Clint there ?

He’s mentioned before his sunglasses flew off his head when the car accelerated, and Mrs. Kennedy’s hat has been missing since that day. I’ve always wondered who has these articles, and if they’ll ever come to light?

Mrs. Kennedy’s pink hat was secured to her head with “bobby pins”. At Parkland Hospital, Jackie ripped the hat off of her head in frustration. Clint Hill gave Jackies’s hat and purse to Jackie’s personal secretary, Mary Gallagher (who was also at Parkland Hospital) for safekeeping. The hat has not been seen since then. Gallagher, along with all White House employees, was supposed to have signed an agreement to never talk about the Kennedy’s White House years. Jackie trusted Gallagher enough to put her in charge of making sure that all WH employees signed the confidentiality agreement, but Gallagher never signed one herself. Shortly after the assassination, Gallagher wrote the the first book about working for Jackie Kennedy. She had been Jackies’s friend, and and she betrayed Jackie. Although Gallagher claims that the hat somehow was misplaced, I am of the opinion that Mrs. Gallagher probably kept the hat.

The hat and suit Jackie wore were confiscated and are locked away in a vault for a long time, likely due to the fact that the blood stains would have contained traces of the mercury contained in the bullet that caused JFK’s head to explode. Clint Hill said he burned his blood soaked suit also. Interior of the car was completely stripped also and destroyed. All blood evidence gotten rid of real fast 💨

Yea it is just that Vince wouldn't want to admit that maybe his hero (while setting himself up for a death wish was a stretch) might have potentially caused himself some harm by driving in an open stretch limo.

I have the Barbara Gamarekian history that outed Fiddle, Faddle and Mimi (recorded 1864). She made it seem that the three young women flaunted their access to JFK. Dallek was simply the first to read it and then investigate. Even knowing what was happening, Gamarekian still very much loved JFK. Reading other sources, seems they all did. Joan Braden's (close K's friend) autobigraphy makes one think this was common amongst the Washington political set for both men and women of both parties.

It must have been really hard for your husband to miss holidays and be gone most of the time knowing he's with such a interesting wonderful women like Jackie, I'm sure it was hard and at times jealousy could over come you. I assume he and his wife must have had a real connection and trust between them. I'd live to hear his wife's prerspective.

I haven't read the book. Did he happen to mention she was very embarrassed about the size of her feet? She had long slender feet, a size 11 to 12. In every picture I have seen of her with Jack, even at the beach she always has her feet covered.
