I see a lot of comments of people saying, "I saw this movie once and won't ever watch it again." I've watched this movie at least 5 or 6 times since I first saw it a couple years ago. I get why people wouldn't want to watch it again, but it's such a sobering look at addiction. It's one of the best films ever made, in my opinion.

The movie “requiem for a dream” was already a dark, raw and very true tale of addiction, then you add in this masterpiece to really set the mood. I wouldn’t wish addiction on my worst enemy. This movie should be played across every school as a deterrent to stay away from drugs.

@@mahamodhassan2290 You’re kidding, right….?! I never said the movie was 100% on drugs or addiction, what I said was it’s a very true tale about addiction, which it is! It shows the beginning stages (the party stages, and how much fun it is) and gradually shows the slippery slope where they have to find their fix before they can even remotely function. The movie and book, absolutely show the true side of addiction. The movie shows what greed/desire can unfortunately do to you, and used drugs/addiction to portray it to the audience.

There could never be a theme describing better how it feels when addiction drives you into insanity. Slowly, painfully, eventually... This is the soundtrack of a life falling apart. This is the theme of an existence burning to ashes. The soundtrack of a dream dying. The requiem for a dream.

I only watched the movie at the cinema, once. The volume was so loud, I felt sick. It was a complete perfect experience. I do not want to taint that memory, so that one time will be the only time I watch it. At the start there was some young men behind me, bit loud, looked upper middle class. Snickering at the main characters use of drugs at the start. When the movie ended, not a single word was said. Snickering was long gone. Nobody actually said a word until we were outside. I felt like shit. By the looks on everyone else, so did they. Perfect.

This is still the most harrowing movie I have ever seen. It made me feel ill, not physically, but in my my psyche, and my soul, if that's really a thing. I always tell people how horrible it made me feel, and then for some reason I'm compelled to add "but it's SO well done, you should watch it".

2024 New York is much, much, much darker and worse off than 2000 New York. It's becoming the closest thing we have to an undeveloped country at this point. Though most of the symbols of civilization and prosperity still remain, they are affordable for fewer and fewer. Unless you come here illegally, then they give you whatever you want. But don't tell anybody, we're full.

@@mynameismynameis666 I guess you prefer socialism and communism? Perhaps the gulag? Maoist China? By the way by definition what we have today is not true capitalism. Its croney capitalism. What I like to call the corperatstocricy. There is value and meaning to be had in a days work. And no people shouldnt slave for crumbs. And before we go touting the Scandinavian countries as socialist countries. We should remember those are capitalist countries with heavy wealth redistribution programs. The answer? Gold and silver. If you have paper money it is a certificate redeemable in gold and silver. Accountable money. No more black budgets. People with a backbone to hold their governments and the filthy excrement known as bankers and lawyers accountable. Whom which they collude with. Socialism or communism is not the answer.

The twenty+ years which have passed since Mansell composed this piece have been extremely kind. Each note, each tone, each pause, each beat, all the elements have been enriched by the sunshine it receives when performed. Like wine, LUX ÆTERNA, continues to mature into a richer, fuller, more robust reaction in the ear, heartstrings react, accordingly.

Maaan, this takes me way back to 2002. I'd moved interstate and had just got my own place, so I had to move out of the house and warm bed I shared with a beautiful girl and build a new life, starting from almost nothing. I had a single, foam mattress on the floor and a school-size backback full of clothes/ toiletries/ etc. One of the first things I bought after moving in to my new place, was a VCR video recorder. One of my flatmates had Requiem on video, so I borrowed it from her an watched it 3 or 4 times every week! I'd finish up a night shift (I worked security at a pub about 3 minutes walk from my place), come home and heat up a pre-cooked, frozen meal and watch this. Maybe once per week I'd watch The Fellowship Of The Ring (I bought that video soon after moving in), so it wasn't that Requiem was the only thing I could watch. I was just addicted to watching it, for reasons that are still beyond me...

What’s ironic about your story is that this music was also used in the trailer for Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, which is why this orchestra version is so awesome. The beginning starts with the original Lux Aeterna, and then ends with the re-orchestrated version of it called Requiem for a Tower.

It's difficult to put into words how this song makes me feel,. its like a self empowerment from within that makes the hairs on my arms stand up and for once I don't concentrate on all the things that have gone wrong in my life. All of a sudden my mind is racing through thoughts and memories of all my greatest accomplishments as they play out before me like a montage in a movie about my life. It makes me feel strong while at the same time almost bringing a tear to the eye. This is a beautiful piece of music.

This is a wonderful example of film music being used in the best possible way, because the film and the music reinforce each other so much. I get goosebumps every time I hear it, 10 years after having watched the film. On its own, although it is a good piece, it is not powerful enough for that reaction. The reason is that during the film it slowly gets imbibed with the emotion on screen, and in turn amplifies what is on screen. The film is made more potent by the emotion bound into the music, and the music by the emotion it is attached to. And it is a film that just continually escalates, relentlessly. And the end result is something that neither could have achieved independently. It is a unique film in how strongly I both want and do not want to watch it again
