It was terribly funny watching Clinton Anderson act like all the naive horse owners that try to reason there horses into doing something, or trying to sweet talk this horse into the trailer in the first part of the video. I have watched all his KZfaq videos and recently ordered the dvd kits from him. He absolutely knows what he is doing and his method has helped me a ton with my horses.... absolutely love this guy and his training methods!!!!!

More force than necessary ? When I hear this kind of talk from people, it's always from people who have not trained horses. He is telling that horse to move out of his space in a much kinder way than horses tell other horses in their herd to get back and pay attention. Besides that, this animal is gigantic, and it getting into a person's space is extremely dangerous, I'm sure I don't have to tell you. He makes his point to the horse clear without doing the horse any real harm.
@kopiskehorses
@kopiskehorses 11 жыл бұрын
I agree with you completely. I can't stand it when people don't understand what true "force" is, because this is definitely not it. I feel that many people need to learn how to observe horse as well as human behavior. And they need to learn that you can't train a horse simply by sweat talking to them and feeding them treats. Making a horse move its feet is a great method of training because it teacheshorses to figure things out themselves. It's not force, it's simply pressure and release.

This is the most positive way of loading a horse in a trailer that I have ever experienced, He should we awarded for his way and to be able to make it so simple for people to understand how a different approach is a longlasting manner to stressly load your horse for the rest of his life.

I just read through most the comments...sure horses are stupid NOT. People are the ones making the mistakes. Ive dealt with horses for many years and im no trainer just learned by experience and from experienced horse persons. Yes you want to keep your horse out of your space. I have a Saddlebred mare that was a problem loading in a trailer. If she saw a trailer in the distance automatic panic mode. Yeah ive had to pop her with a whip and smack her on the nose. It was a helluva lot better than getting trampled by a almost 17hh horse. Ive done the same with my quarter mare for being pushy or trying to be aggresive. A spoiled horse is the worst and most dangerous. Not all methods work with every horse sometimes you just have to ask yourself whats not working or what am i doing wrong. Best teaching tool ever...video yourself and trust me you can spot the mistakes and also you can see what you and your horse need to work on.

I love Rick Gore and have watch many many of his videos. I watch his trailer loading video after i seen this video and if you pay really close attention, Rick Gore's method and Clinton Anderson method is super close to the same. Rick Gore mentions sending his horse by the trailer and making him comfortable around, walking him close to it and backing him off of it. Clinton does the same thing in this video. So before yall start judging, how about paying close attention. Just sayin.!

First of all note two things : 1) it's only extracts so we can't see all the process at play ; 2) until 3:15 it's only examples of what people usually do when a horse won't go straight in the trailer (and these aren't close to the worst ones...). Then CA explains that if your horse won't feel confortable being along a fence and when not feeling comfy do push or drag you away without any regards on your safety (and his by the way), these are things to clarify first. Yes he does bump on the halter or tap with the stick but only when the horse's behavior tends to be dangerous for himself or CA. Notice also that instead of running head down to the problem, CA makes sure that the horse struggles and solves one situation at a time. This way, at 8:50, when they open the trailer, the horse steps inside by himself ! The lesson is of course not finished but that's some proof that instead of forcing the horse to get in he's led him to want to !! Plus this horse gets careful about what he is doing, for his safety's sake and the one of the human besides him... the exact opposite of what he did before...

I don't even know where to begin, and since no one is going to win this argument, because it is opinion based, let me say these final thoughts.1) there are videos of clinton riding tackless, try finding vids of him and his personal horse mindy (2) There are vids showing parelli absolutely hauling on horse's mouths - finished horses who do not need that kind of force. It's brutal to watch, honestly, and finally (3) If you're just going by success, CA is wildly successful and so are his methods

cowgirlrapuzel is correct. This method works for any type of trailering issue, whether not wanting to get out, wanting to get out, or refusing to get in. All of these trailering issues stem from either fear, lack of respect or both. His method works because it gets your horse respectful, and works out the fear at the same time.

Clinton's method did wonders on my horse. It's funny looking at the comments on here about what Clinton was doing on how it's wrong and that he' traumatising the horse. If you think about it though horses are fight or flight animals and in reality he's just mimicking herd behavior using pressure release system like you would see between two horses. All he's doing is just getting the horse out of his panic state or flight state and then make him realize he has relief and safety in the trailer.

Saartje Hond +Saartje05 Then I guess a horse bitting another horse or kicking another horse is abuse and totally rediculous. Learn how horses get what they want in a herd. Lead mare wants to eat in a certain spot (another horse is already there): walking up (Clinton pointing), ears pinned (pointing and asking), lunging (pointing, asking, spanking the ground), bitting and kicking (Clinton pointing and spanking horses butt). He mimics horse behavior plain and simple. It's a method that works and has amazing results. If you have a horse in your space like that is dangerous and if a horse doesn't see you as a leader it gets dangerous. Making a habit of hitting the horse in the head is wrong yes, but he warned the horse (by tapping the horse in the neck). Horses get hit in the face in a herd, so I guess you better tell them it's wrong. If a horse bites you the face is the most likely closest thing to you, waiting the extra seconds to try and hit the neck or body.

he doesn't use force and you would know that if you watched the whole video, smarty pants. He was showing you what NOT to do, like pulling. If you watch the whole video you will see he does groundwork to get the horse to lighten up and be calm around the trailer. By the end of the video you see the mare walks into the trailer without Clinton Anderson having to pull her.

First off, the so called "fear" that you speak of is over the trailer, not the stick. You obviously have no idea what is going on here. Getting a horse to move it's feet is not abuse. No so called "force" is being used at all. I have seen real abuse and force used and he is definitely not using either of the two. You really need to learn the difference between proper training and abuse/neglect, because it's obvious that you have no idea what that is.

@superkrunt Clinton Anderson says just because your horse gets into the trailer, it doesn't mean that she WANTS to be in the trailer. If your mare craved to be on it, oviously she would not be wanting to get off in a hurry. If you watch his videos on this subject and understand his "why" reasoning and follow his methods, I guarantee you will be able to fix her problem! I have poured over many of his demos with all sorts of crazy and disrespectful horses, and his method works! Good luck!

I could only use Clinton's method on my horse, and I did try Pat's. Though if you watch horses in the wild to them it's "get out of my way now." In a herd horse will deliver a bite that will or could bleed, they will deliver a kick that will swell up and bruise. This is a good method that works. My horse trusts me so much, and he listens. Where as before he was walking all over me with Pat's method, but I do think he is also a very good horseman.

The horse wont go to the trailer. Work the horse hard away from the trailer then when the horse wants a break take him to the trailer to have a break. Eventually the horse realizes the trailer is the nice spot and will actually take you to the trailer then eventually get in

SuperKrunt: If she's desperate to get back out then she's not that happy to go on even tho she looks fine. I would spend a lot more time loading/unloading, a few steps up the ramp then back off, all the way then back out again, all the way in, leave her to stand without tying up, she should be happy to stay there without being tied but don't make her stay, if she backs out then send her back in, until she is happy to stay in there for a while, untied.

What I have found to be the easiest on people and horse is when you know you are going to take your horse somewhere two or three days before back the trailer into a round pen or any lot and feed then grain and hay in it, and it that doesn't work put the water in it too. But the lot must be a dry lot (no grass or weeds) and the horse should be alone. The horse may not go in for 6 hours but it WILL go in that day.

I've watched Pat Parelli and of course Clinton Anderson. The horses Pat works with don't seem to really listen to him. Clinton is almost trying to impersonate a horse that is at the top of the totem pole by saying "don't run me over, listen to me." He is getting a horses respect and trust. A horse will only respect and trust someone that takes control and leads. Clinton's methods work and it isn't abuse or anything bad.

I'd bet you used something else to put pressure on a horse, a rope probably, which he uses as well. What method would you use then, to move a horse immediately out of your space? The method I see most often is people backing up and teaching the horse a bad lesson - that it can push you. If a thwap on the nose or neck is not an option at all for you, then I'd say you've trained some pretty tame, well mannered horses. And some people are that lucky - most are not.

This is an old post but just popped into my feed, I use Clintons techniques and I’m up here in New Hampshire and let me say the majority of people up here just want to love love love on their animals and have no concept of animal psychology, so it’s a constant battle, oh your being mean putting pressure on the horse or too much pressure or working him to hard or you shouldn’t wave the stick and string in their face. It’s ridiculous and difficult to find a place that isn’t against Clintons techniques and I always tell them we do what works for a the animal not you.

If a horse doesn't load or say go into a wash rack for example, their nit going to go in with you staring at them. In the wild you do NOT see a lead mare or stallion say please get out of my space. By the pinning of ears they are saying get away or get out of my space NOW! If the horse fails to listen to the warning it is followed by a kick or bite ect. The stick is mimmicking this behavior. If you actually knew anything about his training method you would know that there are steps leading up to the tapping or "whacking" A 100lb man with a freaking stick could do no more harm than a 1000lb animal could do.

well Lynne. The best horsemen/women in the world do NOT profit on their knowledge ..they share it with others for free -for the good of horses. He may feature some horses in his dvds who have been perfectly selected for temperament and personality and the sad truth is that most of the time the viewers do not know what goes on behind the scenes. This video is a perfect example when a so-called genius gets handed a horse he doesn't know ..AND a horse who doesn't know him. this is wrong in so many ways and it's apparent to many others as well. +Moonlight Mystique Pat Parelli sells DVDs and equipment to people as well as doing the same as Clinton. In this world to prosper and ensure the best of yourself and your facilities you need money in anyway you can get it (equipment, tours, tack, etc.) And while I agree in some cases of letting your horse be your teacher, but for horses that disrespect you letting them teach you is going to be dangerous. In a herd horses learn to respect one another and in doing so learn to trust one another from that respect. One horse doesn't gain the respect of others by being nice and listening to the other horses. Every trainer will have to work with a horse they aren't familiar with, but with Clinton's tours he has a chance before to get to know the horse a bit. Mostly you learn about a horse when you work with it. I train horses and I can tell you that I learn a lot about the horse when I work with it, nothing is really learned from standing by and letting it graze. A horse can only truly trust you when it can respect you, and Clinton's method mimics how horses act in a herd.

Funny you'd think that if wacking a horse in the head with a whip would cause it to be head shy that all of Clinton's horses would be head shy as well as any other horse that has had Clinton's methods used on them. I think your logic is a little off.
@TukikoIsolde
@TukikoIsolde 10 жыл бұрын
It's when you hit them for no reason every day that a horse will become head shy. He hit her to get her out of his space, and once she learned that if she stayed away nothing would happen it stopped.

Thing is not all horses are sweethearts there are some real sods out there who just try it on to see how far they can get with you if they boss you and you don't establish yourself ASAP its going to end badly some times you have to get tough for an easy life later on I saw a perfectly nice pony split a guys head open because he tried to play the good guy role when the pony was just having a go at taking control

"She would love to jump on top of me now" No she doesn't! She just doesn't want to go in the trailer! You shouldn't act like the horse is the enemy and you have to dominate it to make it do what you want. Pulling on its face, flapping the lead rope around, and hitting it in the face with a stick only makes the horse more stressed and confused.

Absolutely lost respect for him after he beat a BLIND HORSE for not backing quickly enough, made a horse flip over to get away from him, punished a horse for "moving while being mounted" when it was only shifting its weight, and makes his horse Titan touch his chest with his nose for no reason.

Making the horse's trauma worse. Just to get a few laughs of the audience.
@zavakuria
@zavakuria 10 жыл бұрын
I don't like this.... First he humiliates the owner, and then he furthers the horse's trauma by doing what he told the owner to do which of course was incorrect and a negative experience for the horse-all the while this eggs on the audience who of course laughs when the horse is NOT being treated as he should especially when handed over to the "professional", and then later he keeps yanking on the horse's nose and at times the yanks are not even timed well or needed. Almost like he'll add an extra yank for effect. Rope halters have a ton of force behind them with yanks like that (which, yes, I realize they can be useful or needed at times to be safe and sane for both horse and person)..... But this could have been done much better.... :\

Ya this is really a traumatizing experience. Clinton just yanks around on the horse and obviously his method doesn't work because the horse doesn't get any better or more respectful. The horse is just full of fear and won't get into the trailer right?

Not at all actually. They are expected to be respectful and obedient at all times. Yes I love them, but they don't get babied. The stuff showed in this video leaves no respect or dignity for the horse, it's just not good horsemanship. Sure it gets the job done, but there are much better ways. Wouldn't let this man lay a finger on my Mustangs.
@TukikoIsolde

In a herd situation the horse would recieve muck worse then an "extra" yank. His method mimics how horses in a herd work, just in human form. You want respect from your horse and if you let your horse run all over you you get no respect. When a horse learns to respect you it knows it can trust you to help it and make the right decisions.

So cruel, you always disable the comments because you know what you're doing is wrong! Just let the foal be with its mother and don't give us dumb excuses and say stupid stuff like "you don't know what you're talking about, you don't know our methods" because all I have to know is that the foals you claim to "train" have all the rights to be with their mother and humans should respect them and not, mess with them by: lunging foals that have NOT even got there bones developed, taking the foal away from its mother etc. This makes me so angry and more people should realise that this is WRONG!!!
